Download or read book Holistic Education and Embodied Learning written by John P. Miller and published by IAP. This book was released on 2017-03-01 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning often begins with an experience in the body. Our body can tighten or feel expansive depending on different learning contexts. This experience of learning in the body is crucial to holistic education. This book explores embodied learning from several perspectives. This first section explores how psychology can inform us about embodied learning; for example, the work of Carl Jung and Wilhelm Reich devoted much of their thinking to how energy manifests itself in the body. Meditation and movement are also examined as ways of embodied learning; for example, Dalcroze, a form of movement education, is presented within the context of whole person education. The book also presents schools where embodied learning is nurtured. Waldorf education is discussed as well as a public school in Toronto where the body is central to holistic education. The book also presents visions of embodied learning. John Miller presents a holistic vision of teacher education and Tobin Hart, who has written extensively in this field, writes about the embodied mind. Embodied learning is an emerging area of inquiry in holistic education and this book presents a variety of perspectives and practices that should be helpful to both scholars and practitioners.

Nuland Veuid arrives from a Utopian culture two billion years more advanced than our own with the objective of learning about Earth culture by following the life of a single specimen. He criticizes all of the major institutions of Earth and the life choices of his subject. Eventually he perceives the imminence of an ecological catastrophe, and although he becomes famous within his own culture for lifting anthropology from a descriptive to a predictive science, he faces an ethical dilemma when he questions his culture's Code of Non-Interference that prohibits him from warning Terrans of the threat of massive suffering and death.

Download or read book Remnants of the Franco Algerian Rupture written by Mona El Khoury and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the end of French colonization in Algeria, four categories of people held French citizenship or had strong ties with France: European settlers, Jews, mixed-race individuals, and Harkis. The end of the War of Independence exiled most of them from Algeria, traumatized them in various ways, and transferred many to metropolitan France. Remnants of the Franco-Algerian Rupture: Archiving Postcolonial Minorities examines the legacies of these transnational identities through narratives that dissent from official histories, both in France and Algeria. This literature takes particular stories of exile and loss and constructs a memory around a Mosaic father figure embodying the native land, Algeria. Mona El Khoury argues that these filiation narratives create a postcolonial archive: a discursive foundation that makes historical minorities visible, while disrupting French and Algerian hegemonies. El Khoury questions the power of literature to repair history while contending that these literary strategies seek to do justice to the dead Algerian father, even as they valorize enduring minority identifications.
