Book Studies in the History of the Third Dynasty of Vijayanagara

Download or read book Studies in the History of the Third Dynasty of Vijayanagara written by N. Venkata Ramanayya and published by Gyan Publishing House. This book was released on 2009 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Empire of Vijayanagara was the last flicker of Hindu State and administration in India. The Empire played an important role in the history of medieval India, not only for its victorious army, progressive foreign relations and sound administration, but also for its patronage to art, culture, literature and religion. The present work is a history of the Vijayanagara Empire during the rule of its third dynasty, i.e. since 1530. The work is divided into three parts, dealing with (1) principal events in the history of Vijayanagara between 1529 and 1943, (2) System of administration under which the Empire of the Rayas was governed in the sixteenth century and (3) religious and social conditions. The work is based on authentic source materials, viz. inscriptions and literature. The inscriptions used for this research fall in to two classes, (1) those copied by the Epigraphy Department and (2) those that included in the Mackenzie Manuscripts. The texts of the Inscriptions, some of which are still unpublished, have been diligently scrutinized and interpreted. Among the contemporary literary creations, relevant portions of the prabandhas and kavyas have been compared with the inscriptions and Portuguese records. Works of the Muslim historians have also been occasionally consulted. The work presents a detailed study of the administrative system, fiscal policy, law enforcing machinery, social conditions, religious sects and movements during the period under study. The work is a valuable contribution to the history of South India.

Book excerpt: A searing indictment of the suspension of democracy In June 1975, a state of Emergency was declared, where civil liberties were suspended and the press muzzled. In the dark days that followed, Coomi Kapoor, then a young journalist, personally experienced the full fury of the establishment. Meanwhile, Indira Gandhi, her son Sanjay and his coterie unleashed a reign of terror that saw forced sterilizations, brutal evictions in the thousands, and wanton imprisonment of many, including Opposition leaders. This gripping eyewitness account vividly recreates the drama, the horror, as well as the heroism of a few during those nineteen months when democracy was derailed.

Book Matthew s Theology of Fulfillment Its Universality and Its Ethnicity

Download or read book Matthew s Theology of Fulfillment Its Universality and Its Ethnicity written by Herman C. Waetjen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interpretation of this gospel integrates an objective analysis of its historical context and a subjective semantic disclosure of meaning. To that end, a close reading of the text is combined with consistency building in order to achieve textual congruence and plenitude of meaning. The subject/ object split of traditional biblical scholarship that requires analysis in order to produce explanation as a definable object is superseded in this book by the event of reading as a dynamic happening of personal experience from which the reader cannot detach herself or himself.
