Book The Rooster Prince of Breslov

Download or read book The Rooster Prince of Breslov written by Ann Redisch Stampler and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2010-09-13 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This picture book brings a light touch and engaging silliness to the story of a prince who rejects the lavish luxury of his upbringing in favor of a life as . . . a rooster. The only person who can persuade the prince to reconsider is neither a doctor nor a magician but a wise teacher who is willing to become a rooster too. Told to the author by her grandmother, who brought it from Eastern Europe a century ago, this traditional tale is accompanied by strikingly witty and graceful illustrations that add their own folkloric flavor. Author's note.

Book Neslishah

  • Publisher : American University in Cairo Press
  • Release : 2017-11-12
  • ISBN : 1617978442

Download or read book Neslishah written by Murat Bardakçi and published by American University in Cairo Press. This book was released on 2017-11-12 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twice a princess, twice exiled, Neslishah Sultan had an eventful life. When she was born in Istanbul in 1921, cannons were fired in the four corners of the Ottoman Empire, commemorative coins were issued in her name, and her birth was recorded in the official register of the palace. After all, she was an imperial princess and the granddaughter of Sultan Vahiddedin. But she was the last member of the imperial family to be accorded such honors: in 1922 Vahiddedin was deposed and exiled, replaced as caliph-but not as sultan-by his brother (and Neslishah's other grandfather) Abdülmecid; in 1924 Abdülmecid was also removed from office, and the entire imperial family, including three-year-old Neslishah, were sent into exile. Sixteen years later on her marriage to Prince Abdel Moneim, the son of the last khedive of Egypt, she became a princess of the Egyptian royal family. And when in 1952 her husband was appointed regent for Egypt's infant king, she took her place at the peak of Egyptian society as the country's first lady, until the abolition of the monarchy the following year. Exile followed once more, this time from Egypt, after the royal couple faced charges of treason. Eventually Neslishah was allowed to return to the city of her birth, where she died at the age of 91 in 2012. Based on original documents and extensive personal interviews, this account of one woman's extraordinary life is also the story of the end of two powerful dynasties thirty years apart.

As in Book II, Teoxi remains a wise and determined commander committed to restoring the dying Mayan Empire, preventing the spread of the blood-thirsty Aztecan Empire and challenging a prophecy that predicts the soon coming-end of the world he knows Teoxi fights a continuous battle against ignorance and superstition, walks with assurance into battle after battle against the Aztec and their minions, initiates overtures to the mountain-dwelling Incas as a bulwark against the Aztec. He returns always victorious from battles and skirmishes that span the former empire from sea to sea, and learns much from his terrifying brush with the invisible tribe of Chocoes--wielder of the tiny arrows that deliver silent death to all who venture blindly into their dark and mysterious forest. His quest continues without pause even after one of his finest--the silent and discreet female warrior named Night Orchid--offers to provide any support that a busy commander needs. The family bears the burden of continuous challenges facing Teoxi as he continues the fight to save himself and his village from a death sentence issued by an enemy desperate to kill him. Teoxi will win, but, the price paid by the Mayan Nation will be huge. Teoxi sees tomorrow, when the prophesied hordes armed with fire and thunder reach his shores, and--as his body bears the weight of a people and land that created a history the world will forever respect--he knows that wisdom, not power, will enable the spirit of his people to continue forever. That night, there was a party at the stronghold. We talked and laughed about the events of the day
