  • Pages : 92 pages

Download or read book On Conscience written by Joseph Ratzinger and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2010-11-09 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prepared and co-published by the National Catholic Bioethics Center in Philadelphia, this book is a combination of two lengthy essays written by Cardinal Ratzinger and delivered in talks when he was head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Both talks deal with the importance of conscience and its exercise in particular circumstances. Ratzinger's reflections show that contemporary debates over the nature of conscience have deep historical and philosophical roots. He says that a person is bound to act in accord with his conscience, but he makes it clear that there must be reliable, proven sources for the judgment of conscience in moral issues, other than the subjective reflections of each individual. The always unique and profound insights that the new Pope Benedict XVI brings to perennial problems reminds the reader of his strong warning before the recent Papal conclave of the great dangers today of the "dictatorship of relativism."

Book Gandhi and Tagore

Download or read book Gandhi and Tagore written by Gangeya Mukherji and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-11-06 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together the political thought of Gandhi and Tagore to examine the relationship between politics, truth and conscience. It explores truth and conscience as viable public virtues with regard to two exemplars of ethical politics, addressing in turn the concerns of an evolving modern Indian political community. The comprehensive and textually argued discussion frames the subject of the validity of ethical politics in inhospitable contexts such as the fanatically despotic state and energised nationalism. The book studies in nuanced detail Tagore’s opposition to political violence in colonial Bengal, the scope of non-violence and satyagraha as recommended by Gandhi to Jews in Nazi Germany, his response to the complexity of protest against the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, and the differently constituted nationalism of Gandhi and Tagore. It presents their famous debate in a new light, embedded within the dynamics of cultural identification, political praxis and the capacity of a community to imbibe the principles of ethical politics. Comprehensive and perceptive in analysis, this book will be a valuable addition for scholars and researchers of political science with specialisation in Indian political thought, philosophy and history. Gangeya Mukherji is Reader in English at Mahamati Prannath Mahavidyalaya, Mau-Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Val wrote a controversial book, essentially a novelization of Helen’s all-too-short but vibrant life. And Olive became an editor and writer, now comfortably settled with her husband, Griff, in New Haven. When Olive is asked to write an essay about Val’s book, doing so brings back to the forefront Olive and Griff’s tangled histories and their complicated reflections on that tumultuous time in their young lives.Conscience, the dazzling new novel from award-winning author Alice Mattison, paints the nuanced relationships between characters with her signature wit and precision. Book Conscience and Its Enemies

Download or read book Conscience and Its Enemies written by Robert P. George and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2016-03-29 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Many in elite circles yield to the temptation to believe that anyone who disagrees with them is a bigot or a religious fundamentalist. Reason and science, they confidently believe, are on their side. With this book, I aim to expose the emptiness of that belief.” From the introduction: Assaults on religious liberty and traditional morality are growing fiercer. Here, at last, is the counterattack. Showcasing the talents that have made him one of America’s most acclaimed and influential thinkers, Robert P. George explodes the myth that the secular elite represents the voice of reason. In fact, George shows, it is on the elite side of the cultural divide where the prevailing views frequently are nothing but articles of faith. Conscience and Its Enemies reveals the bankruptcy of these too often smugly held orthodoxies while presenting powerfully reasoned arguments for classical virtues.

Book The Truth Is a Lie The Complete Psychological and Motivational Journey to Personal Transformation Through Conscience Thought Relationshi

Download or read book The Truth Is a Lie The Complete Psychological and Motivational Journey to Personal Transformation Through Conscience Thought Relationshi written by Harry S. Petsanis and published by . This book was released on 2019-02-08 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Truth is a Lie will remove the blindfold that's crippled you for far too long and integrate real life situations to effectively demonstrate how these scenarios present themselves in all our lives. In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Man learn that the wizard behind the curtain is controlling all the myth and magic in Oz. The wizard does not want to be revealed. He wants to stay in control, and for the illusion of a perfect and harmonious world to continue. Follow my journey in The Truth is a Lie as I pull back the curtain and show that your Land of Oz is a place where your perception is not reality. Every day we live in conflict. We say that we want the curtain pulled back to reveal the truth, but our nature prefers to keep us in the dark, not allowing us to see who we truly are. In many instances, we simultaneously fear and despise the person we know is directly behind that lightly threaded fabric. We want nothing to do with the truth because the lie that we have been living for so long has become our reality. Imagine a wrecking ball destroying the infrastructure of all that we have been manipulated to believe. This Land of Oz was created by those in power: the government, educators, parents, and authority figures to control society and manipulate the minds of the less fortunate and powerless to create the illusion of a perfect world, and more importantly, protect the lives of those controlling us. Imagine a boxer, as soon as the bell rings, coming at you. He hits you with a haymaker to knock you off balance. As soon as we are born, our bell rings, and we are hit with the reality of the world that has already been created for us. The Land of Oz that has been created for you has your own wizard pulling the strings and brainwashing you to believe only what they want you to believe. People need to be shaken in a dramatic fashion to get them out of their conditioned apathy. We are so entrenched in the way we think that only a catastrophic event or soulfully truthful revelation can rewire the hardware. This conditioning has internally and emotionally tied us up in knots. We're afraid to reveal ourselves to people, afraid to speak out or to act in a way that truly reflects how we think and feel, and we're afraid to admit that at heart we are all self-serving and self-indulgent beings. Even Mother Teresa acknowledged that she felt guilty about how good it made her feel to help other people. This fear has been ingrained in us, causing us to lead the life that others demand of us, which was their intention from the beginning. Throughout our journey, my goal will be to get you to pull back the curtain in your Land of Oz and reveal your world as it really is, not as you and others have conditioned you to believe that it is.

Book An Examination of Conscience of the Understanding

Download or read book An Examination of Conscience of the Understanding written by Richard L. Scott and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2016-12-29 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Examination of Conscience of the Understanding: Empirical Proof of the Existence of God by Richard L. Scott Seeking his own utmost depth of comprehensive understanding, the author sets out to prove empirically that God exists. The seed of proof is the Birth Paradox, its florescence a faith grounded in his spirituality disposed soul: As empirically real as his conscious self, as mathematically certain as the probability laws of genetic science, as necessary as that the universe requires a creator for its rational possibility, as immanently intuitive as the Divine Allegory he mirrors. The Birth Paradox is the contingency of personal conscious existence on the body. Is there any scientific or commonsense belief as certain of itself? And yet, as a practical proposition, it is an utterly impossible conjunction! Personal consciousness is necessary specific to its own experience, a subtly profound tautology! How is it, then, that one’s necessary being can be dependent on a chance body?
