Book excerpt: The following dissertation concerning the Trinity, as the reader ought to be informed, has been written in order to guard against the sophistries of those who disdain to begin with faith, and are deceived by a crude and perverse love of reason. Now one class of such men endeavor to transfer to things incorporeal and spiritual the ideas they have formed, whether through experience of the bodily senses, or by natural human wit and diligent quickness, or by the aid of art, from things corporeal; so as to seek to measure and conceive of the former by the latter. Book Understanding End Times Prophecy

Download or read book Understanding End Times Prophecy written by Paul Benware and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2006-05-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians think of end times prophecy as a gigantic, intimidating puzzle -- difficult to piece together and impossible to figure out. But every puzzle can be solved if you approach it the right way. Paul Benware compares prophecy to a picture puzzle. Putting the edge pieces together first builds the 'framework' that makes it easier to fit the other pieces in their place. According to Benware, the framework for eschatology is the biblical covenants. He begins his comprehensive survey by explaining the major covenants. Then he discusses several different interpretations of end times prophecy. Benware digs into the details of the Rapture, the Great Tribulation, the judgements and resurrections, and the millennial kingdom. But he also adds a unique, personal element to the study, answering questions as: -Why study bible prophecy? -What difference does it make if I'm premillenial or amillenial? If what the Bible says about the future puzzles you, Understanding End Times Prophecy will help you put together the pieces and see the big picture.

Book The Trinity and Theodicy

Download or read book The Trinity and Theodicy written by Jacob H. Friesenhahn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-17 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does God permit the great suffering and evil that we see in our world? This basic question of human existence receives a fresh answer in this book as the mystery of evil is explored in the context of the mystery of the Trinity. God's permission of evil and the way in which suffering can lead human persons into the life of the Trinity are discussed in dialogue with the great Swiss theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar. In the light of Balthasar's model of the Trinity as divine self-giving love, we gain a profound grasp of the nature of suffering in human life by placing our suffering in the context of the divine life of the Triune God.

Book The Unholy Trinity

    Book Details:
  • Author : Thomas Van Dyke
  • Publisher : Elm Hill
  • Release : 2020-04-28
  • ISBN : 1400330386
  • Pages : 264 pages

Download or read book The Unholy Trinity written by Thomas Van Dyke and published by Elm Hill. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book I try to describe, as clearly and simply as possible, the Christian journey from a life lived in worldliness and defeat to a life lived in and through the grace of God. I use the Biblical story of Israel’s journey from Egypt to Canaan in an allegorical sense to show how God, through the activities and resources of the Holy Trinity, tries to bring us to that place of living in grace, and how the devil, through the unholy trinity (the world, the flesh, and demonic resistance) seeks to thwart that journey. I focus on three fronts in the battle between the two trinities. On the first front, the devil works indirectly through the world system (Egypt) to deny us our freedom that we have due to the atonement. Living under the illusion of pleasure, we end up in extreme bondage. On the second front, the devil works indirectly through our flesh (Amalek) to hinder us from following the leadership of the Holy Spirit as He attempts to guide us into God’s grace. On the third front, we can expect to experience a more direct conflict with the devil and his spiritual forces (Canaan). These demonic forces will try to oppose and negate all the benefits of God’s promised grace that comes into our lives through Christ. XXXXX

Book God Evil and the Limits of Theology

Download or read book God Evil and the Limits of Theology written by Karen Kilby and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-09-03 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karen Kilby explores the doctrine of the Trinity and issues of evil, suffering and sin. She offers a critique of the lack of respect for mystery found in the most popular Trinitarian thinking of our time. Kilby gives an apophatic reading of Aquinas on the Trinity and offers a distinct next step in the sequence on the Trinity – the appeal of social doctrines of the Trinity lies principally in their ecclesial and political relevance. She engages with Miroslav Volf's famous 'The Trinity is our social program' essay and addresses the question of what an alternative politics of an apophatic theology of the Trinity might look like. The essays explore the question of theodicy and argue that evil poses a question to Christians and Christian's theology which can neither be answered nor dismissed. Kilby argues that Christians must live with this mystery, this lack of resolution, rather than trying to diminish the gravity of evil, or allowing evil to dictate their conception of God's goodness or power. By offering a critical reading of Hans Urs von Balthasar and Julian of Norwich she explores the question of whether Christianity can avoid giving a positive valuation to suffering, and concludes the two represent two different strands within the Christian tradition in relation to thought on suffering.

Book excerpt: For centuries those who have opposed the Christian faith have argued that if God is good, he cannot be all-powerful, since there is evil in the world; and if God is all-powerful, he cannot be good, since there is evil in the world. Either God is good or he is all-powerful, but he cannot be both--or so the argument goes. For centuries, Christian theologians have attempted to refute this argument, and they have failed. Now one American Christian philosopher has succeeded. God and Evil is the masterful solution to the ancient problem of evil. This book is chapter five of Religion, Reason, and Revelation. - Publisher.
