Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This isn't your typical gay-to-straight conversion story; this is messy, yet glorious. In a time where the Church is confused and unsure of how to help those struggling with their sexual identity, Kyle Barr shares his very personal, lifelong journey. His undeniable experiences powerfully break the silence and shame that for so long have surrounded the topic of sexuality. Through his story, we see both struggle and victory, the stuff all our lives are made of. We all have a story to tell. Though our stories may have different characters and plot twists, at the core, it's all the same. All have been torn and all are searching. Everyone is in need of finding real love that's beyond anything of this world. Deep inside, all men and women want to unlock the fullness of who they are. This cannot be done alone. We all have longing which searches for an answer, for healing and wholeness. From the author: As I share my story with you, I ask one thing of you: will you truly listen? Yes, this is my story, but this is also my version of your story. Listen close enough and you might see that our stories aren't that different after all. It is messy and it is real, yet Christ still walked it with me. What many are afraid of, He embraced. What many misunderstand, He understood. Though many may give up and give in, Christ's love continues on. I was not alone and neither are you. Christ closed the gap and came so close to my struggles and brokenness . . . so close to touch me. I am a man and I am His. I am loved and I have been transformed.

Book excerpt: Mirza Asadullah Khan (1797–1869), popularly, Ghalib, is the most influential poet of the Urdu language. He is noted for the ghazals he wrote during his lifetime, which have since been interpreted and sung by different people in myriad ways. Ghalib’s popularity has today extended beyond the Indian subcontinent to the Hindustani diaspora around the world. In this book, Gopi Chand Narang studies Ghalib’s poetics by tracing the archetypical roots of his creative consciousness and enigmatic thought in Buddhist dialectical philosophy, particularly in the concept of shunyata. He underscores the importance of the Mughal era’s Sabke Hindi poetry, especially through Bedil, whom Ghalib considered his mentor. The author also engages with Ghalib criticism that has flourished since his death and analyses the important works of the poet, including pieces from early Nuskhas and Divan-e Ghalib, strengthening this central argument. Much has been written about Ghalib’s life and his poetry. A marked departure from this dominant trend, Narang’s book looks at Ghalib from different angles and places him in the galaxy of the great Eastern poets, stretching far beyond the boundaries of India and the Urdu language.

Book Victorian Transformations

Download or read book Victorian Transformations written by Bianca Tredennick and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-24 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proposing the concept of transformation as a key to understanding the Victorian period, this collection explores the protean ways in which the nineteenth century conceived of, responded to, and created change. The volume focuses on literature, particularly issues related to genre, nationalism, and desire. For example, the essays suggest that changes in the novel's form correspond with shifting notions of human nature in Victor Hugo's Notre-Dame de Paris; technical forms such as the villanelle and chant royal are crucial bridges between Victorian and Modernist poetics; Victorian theater moves from privileging the text to valuing the spectacles that characterized much of Victorian staging; Carlyle's Past and Present is a rallying cry for replacing the static and fractured language of the past with a national language deep in shared meaning; Dante Gabriel Rossetti posits unachieved desire as the means of rescuing the subject from the institutional forces that threaten to close down and subsume him; and the return of Adelaide Anne Procter's fallen nun to the convent in "A Legend of Provence" can be read as signaling a more modern definition of gender and sexuality that allows for the possibility of transgressive desire within society. The collection concludes with an essay that shows neo-Victorian authors like John Fowles and A. S. Byatt contending with the Victorian preoccupations with gender and sexuality.

  • Author : Jamey Heit
  • Publisher : Lutterworth Press
  • Release : 2017-08-31
  • ISBN : 0718846060
  • Pages : 225 pages

Download or read book Liturgical Liaisons written by Jamey Heit and published by Lutterworth Press. This book was released on 2017-08-31 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Jesus offers his body as a promise to his disciples, he initiates a liturgical framework that is driven by irony and betrayal. Through these deconstructive elements, however, the promise invites the disciples into an intimate space where they anticipate the fulfilment of what is to come. The Last Supper, symbol of unfinished life and sacrifice, becomes the common thread between John Donne and Emily Dickinson, whose poetics acquire liturgical - and therefore eschatological - features, and body and text become the same. By tracing the displacing and yet co-ordinating theme of the body as a textual presence, Liturgical Liaisons opens into new readings of Donne and Dickinson in a way that enriches how these figures are understood as poets. The result is a risky and rewarding understanding of how these two gurus challenged accepted theological norms of their day.

Book Touching the Jaguar

Download or read book Touching the Jaguar written by John Perkins and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2020-06-16 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This eloquent book inspires us to create a new reality of what it means to be humans on this magnificent planet.” —Deepak Chopra This all happened while Perkins was a Peace Corps volunteer. Then he became an "economic hit man" (EHM), convincing developing countries to build huge projects that put them perpetually in debt to the World Bank and other US-controlled institutions. Although he'd learned in business school that this was the best model for economic development, he came to understand it as a new form of colonialism. When he later returned to the Amazon, he saw the destructive impact of his work. But a much more profound experience emerged: Perkins was inspired by a previously uncontacted Amazon tribe that “touched its jaguar” by uniting with age-old enemies to defend its territory against invading oil and mining companies. For the first time, Perkins details how shamanism converted him from an EHM to a crusader for transforming a failing Death Economy (exploiting resources that are declining at accelerating rates) into a Life Economy (cleaning up pollution, recycling, and developing green technologies). He discusses the power our perceptions have for molding reality. And he provides a strategy for each of us to change our lives and defend our territory—the earth—against current destructive policies and systems.
