Book excerpt: For millennia, seekers have used physical and emotional extremes to achieve transcendence and exaltation. Today, many BDSM and leather practitioners are discovering the potential of SM practice to reach personal, interpersonal and spiritual goals. In Radical Ecstasy, bestselling BDSM/sexuality authors Easton and Hardy document their own journeys into the transcendent realm of kink. With their trademark frankness and humor, they share their own stories and philosophies. They also share techniques that have worked for them - techniques which combine tantric breathing, visualization and movement with a combined half-century of BDSM experience - to create states of transcendence during solo and partnered sexual and BDSM practice. As outrageously revolutionary as any sex book published in the last decade, Radical Ecstasy sets the stage for the new millennium in BDSM and sacred-sex practices - a "must" for any kink, tantra, pagan or sacred-sex practitioner. "Amazingly mindful exploration of that which cannot be easily put into words... the ecstatic experience from sex to sadomasochism, from trance to intuition to archetypes and spiritual awakening. Totally real and personal. Not a 'how to' but a nurturing 'can do' book." - Fakir Musafar, father of the modern primitive movement. "Progressive, deliciously honest, and HOT HOT HOT! Dossie and Janet ask difficult questions about the nature of sex, intimacy and ecstasy, then they actually manage to answer the questions, plus turn us on when they do. These two erotically gifted women have a way with words - and sex. They raise the bar on erotic writing and sex education to new heights. I'm in awe." - Annie Sprinkle, Ph.D., prostitute/porn star turned sex guru/sexologist "Fascinating, heartfelt, honest, real stories of the heart/spirit/energy connection experienced in the passionate rituals of intimate consensual power play. These two courageous women write brilliantly of how erotic energies connect us with the big love we all seek from the source." - Cleo Dubois, educator, ritualist, video producer/star
Download or read book Wake of War written by Zac Topping and published by Forge Books. This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zac Topping's breathtaking near-future thriller, Wake of War, is a timely account of the lengths those with power will go to preserve it, and the determination of those they exploit to win back their freedom. It's 2037, and the United States government is on the brink of collapse amid rebel uprisings and aggressive political maneuvering turning the country into an active war zone. In a nation where opportunity is sequestered behind doors open only to the privileged, joining the Army seemed like James Trent’s best option. He just never thought he’d actually see combat. Now Trent finds himself on the front lines of a second American Civil War, fighting for a cause he’s not sure he even believes in. The last thing he wanted was to spend his days breaking down doors and chasing after fellow Americans—rebels or not. Retribution is the only thing driving Sam Cross, and her sharpshooting skills have made her invaluable to the rebel efforts tearing their way across the Midwest. With every successful mission, she's reminded that she's enacting real change, but that hasn't made pulling the trigger any easier. And with each step she takes into the heart of the war effort, she can't help but wonder if there isn't another way. When these opposing forces clash, alliances are shattered, resolve is tested, and when the dust clears, the only certainty is that the country and its fighting forces will never be the same. Download or read book A topping People written by Emory G. Evans and published by University of Virginia Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A "Topping People" is the first comprehensive study of the political, economic, and social elite of colonial Virginia. Evans studies twenty-one leading families from their rise to power in the late 1600s to their downfall over one hundred years later. These families represented the upper echelons of power, serving in the upper and lower houses of the General Assembly, often as speaker of the House of Burgesses. Their names--Randolph, Robinson, Byrd, Carter, Corbin, Custis, Nelson, and Page, to note but a few--are still familiar in the Old Dominion some three hundred years later. Their decline was due to a variety of factors--economic, social, and demographic. The third generations showed an inability to adapt their business philosophies to the changing economic climate. Their inclination was to mirror the English landed gentry, living off the income of their landed estates. Economic diversification was the norm early on, but it became less effective after 1730. Scots traders, for example, introduced chain stores, making it more difficult to continue family-run stores. And land speculation was no substitute for diversification. An increase in population resulted in the creation of new counties, which weakened the influence of the Tidewater region. These leading families began to spend more than they earned and became heavily indebted to British mercantile firms. The Revolution only served to make matters worse, and by 1790 these families had lost their political and economic status, although their social status remained. A "Topping People" is a thorough and engrossing study of the way families came to gain and, eventually, lose great power in this turbulent and progressive period in American history.

Book excerpt: Liam and Alison Spencer are both in their late-thirties, have been husband and wife for 15 years, but have no children. They first had eyes for one another whilst at secondary school in Port McCroogan on the East cost of Scotland, which happened to be where both their families lived, but after getting their Highers, ended up sharing a flat in Edinburgh whilst studying at university. Three years later, Liam attained a BSc, whilst Alison got her BA and both found jobs that weren't too far apart from one another.Earning their own incomes had been their trigger for getting married and the inevitable search for a place they could call their own, and as luck would have it, discovered a semi-remote cottage in the Borders region that was up for auction, but it required extensive renovation work to bring it up to a habitable standard. Both their parents' contributed towards the initial cost, leaving the happy couple to use what little savings they had to begin the restoration, but, as with most projects, they experienced pitfalls that meant more and more money was needed if they ever wanted to see their project finished. The happy couple hit on an idea to combine their knowledge, education and experience to start their own business that, at first, was a struggle, but they persevered and it soon grew into a relatively successful enterprise whereby they offered their services on a consultative basis and dealt with all the administration themselves. Times were good.Their consultation services found them accumulating slightly better incomes than those they'd earned when salaried employees, but most of their new-found wealth was plunged into the house. They, mainly Liam, also got into the habit of living to the limit of their means, buying expensive things that they really didn't need, which then led to them taking out joint loans, inescapingly plunging them into considerable debt. It was okay though, they'd keep on working and eventually pay it all off, which seemed a good, sensible plan, except they'd not accounted for a recession coming along!Companies scaled back dramatically on outsourcing certain services and bringing in consultants was a luxury they could do without. It wasn't just the odd company either; it was the entire Spencer's portfolio of companies. On the good side, the house was paid for and their families had been paid back, yet on the bad side, they found it increasingly difficult to repay the loans they'd taken out. Needless to say, Liam and Alison were suddenly in severe debt and with their primary source of income all but gone, times ahead were certainly going to be a challenge...

Download or read book The Commerce of Peoples written by Biman Basu and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2012-03-15 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Representations and coverage of S&M have become quite common nowadays, whether we see them in the fashion industry, commercials, the news, on television, film, the internet, and so on. But in the population at large and in the academic community, too, it is still persistently stigmatized. This marginalization, along with its ambivalently persecuted status, is a result, significantly, of a nineteenth century legacy. This legacy begins with Kraftt-Ebing’s designation of sadomasochism, along with gay and lesbian desire, as a perversion, and continues in the popular and expert (mis)understandings which prevail. More generally, most people today will recognize that all human relations are power relations. Yet most people will also deny this and mask these power relations by invoking all sorts of things, like romantic love, sentimental attachment, companionate marriage, friendship, peace, non-violence, harmony, and the list goes on, ad nauseam. Not that these do not exist in a sadomasochistic relation, but sadomasochists are unflinching in their recognition that all of these are also permeated by power relations. It is not only impossible to purge these relations of power but for sadomasochists it is also undesirable to do so. It is not only more honest to acknowledge the power that saturates these relations but also more instructive in the sense that S&M provides a context in which one learns to exercise power and to submit to it in a responsible way. Even in scholarly critical and theoretical discussions of S&M, the prevailing opinion is that the power exercised in sadomasochism is not “real.” It is of course not real in the sense that slavery and violence no longer has a legal status. But reality cannot of course be gauged or even approximated by its legal status alone. For most practitioners, it is hard to deny the reality of pain, of humiliation, of degradation, in the moment of its enactment. One can hardly deny the reality of bringing the whip down on someone’s back or of having it sear across one’s buttocks.
