Book The Time Seller

Download or read book The Time Seller written by Fernando Trías De Bes and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-01-06 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Time Seller, the second book of business fiction from Fernando Trías de Bes—author of the international acclaimed bestseller Good Luck—is not your standard business model book nor a “get with the program” corporate drone story. It breaks the mold and offers a funny (and perhaps existential) meditation on time, work, meaning, and the true costs of “selling out” to the system. Trías de Bes has written an acerbic commentary that seeks to awaken those bound to a routine that has become the source of alienation.

Book excerpt: The year is 1017. A mysterious giant terrorizes small villages near the city of Sredets, the last remaining stronghold of the First Bulgarian Empire. Disgraced solider Simeon Exarch is reluctantly drawn into the fight and manages to slay the giant. But his victory comes at a price—the deaths of his wife, Irina, and son, Cyril. A thousand years later, Simeon lives on, having harnessed the giant’s powers to prolong his life and those of his friends. Then one evening, he notices a woman who looks exactly like Irina. From the sun-shaped birthmark on her neck to the smell of her body and the fact that she and his late wife share the same name, Simeon becomes convinced that the woman is his late wife and holds the key to eternal life. Kidnapped on her wedding night, Irina has no memories of the past. Her husband, Miles, will do anything to rescue her from her captor. Soon, they will both learn just how deep their love for each other goes, as well as what happens when one crosses the threshold from life to death.

Book The Securitization Markets Handbook

Download or read book The Securitization Markets Handbook written by Charles Austin Stone and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-05-18 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this long-awaited handbook, noted experts Charles Stone and Anne Zissu provide an enlightening overview of how securitization works and explain how future cash flows from various asset classes—from credit card receipts to mortgage payments—can be packaged into bond-like products and sold to investors. Once a marginal source of funds, securitization is now an essential corporate funding technique widely adopted by financial and industrial companies throughout the world to finance both working capital and capital budgets. It is also used as a risk-management tool and a source of liquidity. Securitization has been adapted to fund corporate acquisitions, to capitalize future streams of revenue, and to liquidate pools of nonperforming loans. With examples from companies such as GE Capital, Ford Motor Credit, Countrywide Home Loans, and D&K Healthcare, The Securitization Markets Handbook provides descriptions of all major classes of asset-backed securities and offers a practice-oriented commentary on trends in securitization and the value of asset- and mortgage-backed securities across industries and throughout the global markets. The authors approach the topic from both sides of the market: the supply side, where assets are securitized and mortgage- and asset-backed securities are issued, and the demand side, where investors choose which classes of mortgage and asset-backed securities will enhance their portfolios or serve as efficient hedges. The book’s detailed explanations and practical examples make it a valuable guide both for experienced money managers trying to put a securitization strategy into place and for those new to securitization looking to acquire a broad and strong foundation in the subject.

  • Author : Karen S. Cook
  • Publisher : Russell Sage Foundation

Download or read book eTrust written by Karen S. Cook and published by Russell Sage Foundation. This book was released on 2009-10-22 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is one thing that moves online consumers to click "add to cart," that allows sellers to accept certain forms of online payment, and that makes online product reviews meaningful: trust. Without trust, online interactions can't advance. But how is trust among strangers established on the Internet? What role does reputation play in the formation of online trust? In eTrust, editors Karen Cook, Chris Snijders, Vincent Buskens, and Coye Cheshire explore the unmapped territory where trust, reputation, and online relationships intersect, with major implications for online commerce and social networking. eTrust uses experimental studies and field research to examine how trust in anonymous online exchanges can create or diminish cooperation between people. The first part of the volume looks at how feedback affects online auctions using trust experiments. Gary Bolton and Axel Ockenfels find that the availability of feedback leads to more trust among one-time buyers, while Davide Barrera and Vincent Buskens demonstrate that, in investment transactions, the buyer's own experience guides decision making about future transactions with sellers. The field studies in Part II of the book examine the degree to which reputation facilitates trust in online exchanges. Andreas Diekmann, Ben Jann, and David Wyder identify a "reputation premium" in mobile phone auctions, which not only drives future transactions between buyers and sellers but also payment modes and starting bids. Chris Snijders and Jeroen Weesie shift focus to the market for online programmers, where tough competition among programmers allows buyers to shop around. The book's third section reveals how the quality and quantity of available information influences actual marketplace participants. Sonja Utz finds that even when unforeseen accidents hinder transactions—lost packages, computer crashes—the seller is still less likely to overcome repercussions from the negative feedback of dissatisfied buyers. So much of our lives are becoming enmeshed with the Internet, where ordinary social cues and reputational networks that support trust in the real world simply don't apply. eTrust breaks new ground by articulating the conditions under which trust can evolve and grow online, providing both theoretical and practical insights for anyone interested in how online relationships influence our decisions.
