Download or read book A Leader s Destiny written by Elias Aboujaoude and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2024-05-21 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A psychiatrist puts leadership “on the couch,” with a provocative exploration of its crucial, often ignored, psychological and personal character foundations. Elias Aboujaoude’s distinctive exploration of leadership provides unusual insight into understanding who should and should not be striving for leadership positions. Dr Aboujaoude takes on the culture at large, explaining how our cult-like obsession with leadership gives narcissists an edge and results in leadership failure everywhere we look—and how resisting the imperative to rise at all costs can leave many with an inferiority complex. His takedown of the “leadership industrial complex,” an unholy alliance of gurus, coaches, business school professors, and TED-talkers, from Harvard on down, pokes a very sharp elbow into an industry seemingly united in a modern form of alchemy to create leadership gold—a waste of time, money, and effort, since leadership cannot be taught through books or coaching and cannot be bought. Rather, Dr Aboujaoude vividly illustrates, leaders emerge from a unique combination of personal, psychological, and situational factors that may not be easily controlled. To a large degree, great leaders are born, or happen, with the help of innate temperament, talent, opportunity, circumstances, and timing. Frank and unflinching, this refreshing take on a classic subject, with its focus on the art of knowing yourself, provides new insight into whether your psychology is aligned with the requirements of effective and happy leadership. The effect is to empower readers to understand themselves and step up if they have what it takes to lead—or find equally rewarding, often superior, ways to achieve fulfillment and leave their mark if they don’t.

The authors--a mental health therapist and a veteran principal--provide proven, reliable strategies to help you * Understand what trauma is and how it hinders the learning, motivation, and success of all students in the classroom. * Build strong relationships and create a safe space to enable students to learn at high levels. * Adopt a strengths-based approach that leads you to recalibrate how you view destructive student behaviors and to perceive what students need to break negative cycles. * Head off frustration and burnout with essential self-care techniques that will help you and your students flourish. Each chapter also includes questions and exercises to encourage reflection and extension of the ideas in this book. As an educator, you face the impact of trauma in the classroom every day. Let this book be your guide to seeking solutions rather than dwelling on problems, to building relationships that allow students to grow, thrive, and--most assuredly--learn at high levels.
Download or read book The Three Rs written by John E. Gardner and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2008-03 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity is a critical religion. It is not represented this way in the modern era, but it is none the less. A modern Pastor of a mega-church refuses to preach on anything controversial. If Christ had possessed this attitude we would have no churches, no charity, no love, and no reformation. Christ was filled with controversy and his people (the Jews) insisted that the Roman kill him. They did. The book The Three Rs is an answer to this modern error which is propagated by friend and foe alike, The Scriptures represent the religion and people as salt, light and darkness, good and evil. This is controversy. The writing of the Reverend Danforth have received much attention recently because he is an Episcopal Priest, ex-Senator, and good Republican. He is in favor of everything from homo-sexual marriage to creating life for its destruction to save the life of living human beings. He says that he is opposed to abortion (without definition). The Three Rs simply asks people to return to the Bible for answers to all questions pertaining to man, especially his origin, purpose, and destiny. It is built around the ideal question: Can Christianity and radical liberalism co-exist? There is nothing wrong with liberalism in its pure form but radical liberalism of today will destroy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. George Washington and his continentals were all liberals. However, their conception of liberty and freedom differ from the definitions of today as far as night from day. The first President of the United States always understood that if "God build not the house, they labor in vain that built it." There is but one answer and that is a return to the three Rs which is a return to revival, reformation, and restoration. This will produce a renewal of the American spirit and a revival of thing "sacred and divine." All of this is formed from the ideas of faith, hope, and love which are eternal truths. We live in what some believe to be hopeless times, but for the believer in God we live, breathe, and embrace hope and optimism. I do not know the destiny of the United States but I do believe, understand, and know the destiny of the people of God. We are saved by the grace of God but that does not exclude our faithfulness and obedience. The Three Rs cover these topics. May all of it be faithful to His Will and Word.
Download or read book The New Psychology of Leadership written by S. Alexander Haslam and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book provides a refreshing introduction to the field of leadership and is jam-packed with theoretical and practical insights derived from a wealth of applied scientific research conducted by the authors and their colleagues around the world over the last three decades. It starts from the premise that leadership is never just about leaders. Instead it is about leaders and followers who are joined together as members of a social group that provides them with a sense of shared social identity – a sense of "us-ness". In these terms, leadership is understood as the process through which leaders work with followers to create, represent, advance, and embed this sense of shared social identity. The new edition of this award-winning book presents a wealth of evidence from historical, organizational, political and sporting contexts to provide an expanded exploration of these processes of identity leadership in action. In particular, it builds upon the success of the first edition by examining the operation of identity leadership in contemporary society and fleshing out practical answers to key organizational and institutional challenges. Drawing on real-world examples and rich data sources, this book will appeal to academics, researchers, and students of psychology, business, and management, as well as to practitioners, policy makers, and anyone interested in the workings of leadership, influence, and power.
