Book The Testimony of Lives

Download or read book The Testimony of Lives written by Vieda Skultans and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-11-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vieda Skultans left Latvia as a refugee at the age of six months. In 1990, she returned for the first time. This text is both a personal account of a homecoming and an anthropology of a people trying to come to terms with its past and to face an uncertain future. Based on more than 100 interviews carried out in the wake of Latvian independence, it gives voice to stories of dispossession and exile and of ambiguous returns. At the same time it unpicks the process of memory itself, showing how personal memory is shaped by the traditional narratives of national history and culture.

Book Let Me Tell You about My Life Story and My Living Testimony

Download or read book Let Me Tell You about My Life Story and My Living Testimony written by Paula Stewart-Williams and published by . This book was released on 2020-07-08 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book speaks about what my life has been like since I've been in the United States. I talked about what my marriage was like and the struggle that I went through with my mental illness and how I was treated while I was going through my sickness, what got me to start serving the Lord and how God was blessing me even when I did not deserve it, my trials and tribulation, how he brought me out. What led me to be fully committed to the Lord? How I did what I had to do to take care of my son and to make sure he was okay? If you are a mother, you will understand where I'm coming from. If I had to do it all over again for my son, I would but do things differently. I also speak about my past relationships and how my grandmother was truly a blessing to me in the time of need. I was at my sick age, but I took the plane by myself to go to Jamaica to be with my son. I, with God on my side, brought him back home where he belongs, with his mom. Also how I got a second chance at life from the Lord. I speak a little about me and my family, but that does not mean I do not love them. I do love all of my family, and I hope when they're reading this book they will see things from my point of view.

Book Looking Before and After

Download or read book Looking Before and After written by Alan Jacobs and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the work of such major theologians as Lesslie Newbigin and Stanley Hauerwas, the "Christian story" is communal, and the individual Christian achieves meaning only through participation in this communally recounted narrative. While Alan Jacobs acknowledges the importance of the communal story, he suggests that something has been neglected in the development of narrative theology -- the narrative dimension of individual Christian lives. Looking Before and After encourages us to ask how individual lives can, in a specifically Christian sense, be meaningful, how we can discern and rightly interpret those meanings, and how we might tell our own stories in ways that avoid the dangers of presumption and despair. In his typically beautiful writing style, Jacobs here reinvigorates narrative theology and demonstrates the power of individual life stories well told and properly understood.

Book Testimony of Light

Download or read book Testimony of Light written by Helen Greaves and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2009-06-25 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the millions who have enjoyed Proof of Heaven, Heaven is Real, To Heaven and Back, and Getting to Heaven, Testimony of Light is about life after death—and the amazing story of a friendship that endured beyond the veil—published for the first time in the United States. Frances Banks died, as she had lived, fully aware of what she was experiencing and where she hoped to go. She was an Anglican nun for 25 years and for much of that time, the principal of the Teachers' Training College in Grahamstown, South Africa. She was the author of many psychological book. Her last book was Frontiers of Revelation, an account of research into psychic and mystical phenomena. Her friend Helen Greaves was by her side as she finally lapsed into unconsciousness. Then, one evening some three weeks after Frances's death, Helen sensed her presence. This extraordinary encounter marked the beginning of contact between them from both sides of the veil—between life as we know it and life on "the other side." Testimony of Light is based on these communications that Helen received telepathically from Frances. The writings have been authenticated by those who knew them both and who were familiar with their individual writing styles. Moving and inspiring, this classic book is a testament to the enduring power of their friendship, and offers an important message to us all—that the death of the body is but a gentle passing to a much freer and fuller life.

Book Bind Up the Testimony

    Book Details:
  • Author : Daniel Isaac Block
  • Publisher : Hendrickson Publishers
  • Release : 2015

  • Pages : 373 pages

Download or read book Bind Up the Testimony written by Daniel Isaac Block and published by Hendrickson Publishers. This book was released on 2015 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major flashpoints in academic biblical studies in the past 125 years has centered on the authorship and dating of the book of Isaiah. Beginning in the late 1800s, some scholars suggested that this book may have been written by multiple people over a period of centuries, a view that contrasts with the traditional one that the entire book of Isaiah was written in the eighth century BC by the Judean prophet Isaiah ben Amoz. Because for many conservative scholars the latter position is the only one that respects the divine inspiration of the text, and because they also believe that this position is endorsed by Jesus in the New Testament, the differing conclusions of mainstream and conservative scholars regarding the authorship and dating of the book of Isaiah have long served to divide these groups. Bind Up the Testimony--a collection of essays from a colloquium held at Wheaton College in 2013--brings together a variety of evangelical responses to this issue. Although a few of the essays arrive at conservative conclusions regarding the authorship and dating of the book of Isaiah, most of them attempt to chart new, more nuanced directions for thinking on this subject, and suggest that careful attention to the (complicated) compositional history of the book of Isaiah need not be a hindrance--and can, in fact, be a help--to Christians who understand the book of Isaiah as divinely inspired Scripture that has spoken to God's people throughout the ages and that continues to speak to them today.

Book excerpt: GOLD MEDAL WINNER, GLOBAL EBOOK AWARDS We testify in accordance with what we know and have experienced. ...It's time to learn and experience more The first book in this thought-provoking series explained how testimony relates to the Bible; this book will help you understand how testimony relates to living. "Living...The Testimony" will not only encourage Christians to reflect on who they believe Jesus to be (and why they choose to believe this), but it will also correct current misconstrued ideas as to what the Christian testimony is all about. - a testimony is not about church; - a testimony is not about God; - a testimony is not about faith in general terms; - this book contains numerous testimonies that will strengthen your faith in Jesus. A strong Christian testimony is one that continually grows in the knowledge of Jesus, continually shares that knowledge boldly, while at the same time performs good works based on Jesus' teaching of love-all while abstaining from works of darkness. Because a biblical testimony deals not only with our belief system, but also with the way we conduct our whole lives, our Christian testimony becomes our most valuable asset. It is life itself. ARE YOU LIVING THE TESTIMONY? - This book includes an appendix on the Sabbath Rest. Do we currently understand God's holy time of rest? The answer will astound you...and set you free to be more like Jesus. - This book includes Deidre Havrelock's personal testimony regarding her demonic possession and her amazing deliverance.
