Book The Gospel the Zodiac

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bill Darlison
  • Publisher : ABRAMS
  • Release : 2008-02-14
  • ISBN : 146830478X
  • Pages : 277 pages

Download or read book The Gospel the Zodiac written by Bill Darlison and published by ABRAMS. This book was released on 2008-02-14 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Darlison elucidates the zodiac’s significant place in the Gospels, most specifically in the Book of Mark . . . An intriguing leap into faith” (Kirkus Reviews). For millennia the world has been driven by the differences between the great patriarchal religions. Western civilization—or Christendom, as it was once called—received its values and its confidence from a belief in God, the Father, and Jesus, his only son. But what if this conviction were founded on an error? Who is the man in the factually inconsistent Gospel stories? And who is the man who makes a brief appearance carrying a jar of water? This extraordinary study by a Unitarian minister suggests that Jesus never existed historically; he was simply a representation of an astrological theology—a representation, simply put, of the zodiac sign of Aquarius. In The Gospel & the Zodiac, Rev. Bill Darlison demonstrates that all the other signs are present too, in perfect zodiacal order. The Gospel story is not the product of historians or eyewitnesses, but an older, mystical text produced by an ancient, esoteric school as a guide to the Age of Pisces. Every bit as revelatory and controversial as it sounds, The Gospel & the Zodiac will shake up the religious status quo, and in doing so, provide both a new look at a religious icon and a deeper understanding of the faith that binds millions together. “Darlison begins by looking at different scholarly approaches to the gospels, then outlines his astrological interpretation logically and lucidly, matching the zodiacal signs to the narrative of Mark.” —Fortean Times

Book excerpt: The aim of the present work is to study the esoteric characterization of King Solomon that became popular in certain currents of Judaism and Christianity of Late Antiquity and to establish a typology of it. Representative texts are analyzed, first to establish precisely the development of the different esoteric traditions linked to King Solomon, and then to show how these texts and traditions are placed in relation within the broad context of Magic and Religion in Late Antiquity. The book provides data for a better understanding of magic and its role in the Mediterranean Oikumene, suggests the necessity for a better categorization of the magical discipline, and furthers the discussion on the transmission and importance of esoteric traditions withing Judaism and Christianity .

Dr. Adler offers a lifetime of insights that illumine astrology on a rare level, combining esoteric and exoteric understanding, blending psychology, mysticism and the mundane. Astrologers will gain training of a Masters' Degree quality, to help guide clients with deeper understanding. The following excerpts give you an idea of the caliber of Dr. Adler perceptions as they pertain to the theme of Sequence Two – the Zodiac. You will learn about … “… The realm of man's being rooted in Earth, the test of his individual being against the resistance of the earth-matter by the significance of the distribution of the Zodiac-sections, and planets above and below the horizon, for the individual's development on Earth: the cast-shadow of the Zodiacal man on Earth, and the summary of tasks of his earthly work, whose fruit he incorporates into his wandering “ego” -- man's fate, in its widest meaning.”“ … The astrologer aims to seize that human nucleus, swinging freely between Earth and the world of the stars, to study him, his terrestrial shadow and the heavenly light into whose realm he has stepped. The houses are the place for man's Self-probation; where he gains the powers of self-knowledge, of correcting and extending his development. From such knowledge, a blessing can issue forth. Its power will not be exhausted as long as belief in the divinity of the true human core does not vanish.”“The Zodiac and its impulses for human development, prototypes of character formation, concerning the general un-dimmed human image, correspond to the twelve sections of the Zodiac and the development of twelve types of people. The planetary world in connection with the Zodiac forms the total possibilities for an individual: whether favorably or unfavorably.”This Sequence prepares the way for Sequences 3 to 7, also available.

Book Zodiac Calendars in the Dead Sea Scrolls and Their Reception

Download or read book Zodiac Calendars in the Dead Sea Scrolls and Their Reception written by Helen R. Jacobus and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-10-30 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ancient mathematical basis of the Aramaic calendars in the Dead Sea Scrolls is analysed in this investigation. Helen R. Jacobus re-examines an Aramaic zodiac calendar with a thunder divination text (4Q318) and the calendar from the Aramaic Astronomical Book (4Q208 - 4Q209), all from Qumran. Jacobus demonstrates that 4Q318 is an ancestor of the Jewish calendar today and that it helps us to understand 4Q208 - 4Q209. She argues that these calendars were taught in antiquity as angelic knowledge described in 1 Enoch and the Book of Jubilees. The study also encompasses Babylonian, Hellenistic, Byzantine astronomy and astrology, and classical and Jewish writings. Finally, a medieval Hebrew zodiac calendar related to 4Q318 with an astrological text is published here for the first time.
