This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Tendency to the Concrete and Practical, in Modern Education It is evident to students of our educational system that the conflict so long waged between formal book training and the newer, more practical forms of education, centering in the social and industrial needs of children, has at last become a winning fight in favor of the newer education. No longer does the educational leader hesitate to recognize, in theory, at least, the widespread demand for a curriculum which will better fit pupils for their various vocations; moreover, substantial progress has been made in introducing handwork, eyework, and sense - training into our schools, urban and rural. The argument that has been chiefly instrumental in winning support for a closer adjustment of our schools to the changing social and industrial demands has been predicated on the unfortunate effect of the old regime upon the individual pupil. Book The Evolution of American Educational Technology

Download or read book The Evolution of American Educational Technology written by Paul Saettler and published by IAP. This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 599 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose of this book is to trace the theoretical methodological foundations of American educational technology. It must be emphasized that this work is essentially as history of the process of educational technology rather than of products in the form of devices or media. Although media have played an important rode in educational technology, the reader should not lose sight of the central process which characterizes and underlies the true historical meaning and function of educational technology. Moreover, the assumption is made that all current theory, methodology, and practice rests upon the heritage of the past. Indeed, a common problem in the field has been the failure, in many instances, to take adequate account of past history in planning for the present or the future. A related purpose of this book is to provide a selective survey of research in educational technology as it relates to the American public schools. Such research reviews are not intended to be comprehensive, but were included because of their historical importance and their relevance in understanding the process of educational technology.

Book Democracy and Education Other Writings A Collected Edition

Download or read book Democracy and Education Other Writings A Collected Edition written by John Dewey and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2017-10-06 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dewey's educational theories were presented in My Pedagogic Creed, The School and Society, The Child and the Curriculum, Democracy and Education and Experience and Education. Throughout these writings, several recurrent themes ring true; Dewey continually argues that education and learning are social and interactive processes, and thus the school itself is a social institution through which social reform can and should take place. In addition, he believed that students thrive in an environment where they are allowed to experience and interact with the curriculum, and all students should have the opportunity to take part in their own learning. My pedagogic creed (1897) Dewey makes a strong case for the importance of education not only as a place to gain content knowledge, but also as a place to learn how to live. In his eyes, the purpose of education should not revolve around the acquisition of a pre-determined set of skills, but rather the realization of one's full potential and the ability to use those skills for the greater good. "The School and Society" (1899) This eBook version of School and Society is based on a combination of the the 1907 reprint and the 1915 revised edition. In the second, Dewey dropped the fourth chapter from the original version and added five additional essays that had been published elsewhere. As a result this combined edition has two Chapter 4s. The Child and the Curriculum (1902) This work looks at the process of education from both perspectives – child and curriculum. Dewey leads the reader to view the curriculum, what the child must learn, from the child's present state of mind.
