Book Public School Temperance

Download or read book Public School Temperance written by Benjamin Ward Richardson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Public School Temperance: Lessons on Alcohol, and Its Action on the Body In compliance with a well understood public opinion an Act to provide for the teaching of Temperance in the Public Schools was introduced at the last session of the Legislature of Ontario, and received the unanimous approval of the House. Under the provisions; that Act, the subject is placed in the Programme of Public School studies; and this volume is authorized by the Department of Education as the text-book. The author of this work is the celebrated Dr. Richardson, F.R.S., F.R.C.P., of England, Hon. Sec. to the Royal Literary Fund, and author of the Cantor Lectures on Alcohol, who is known throughout the British Empire as one of the highest authorities on this and kindred scientific subjects. The publishers have secured the copyright for the Dominion of Canada, and, under the direction of the Department, have slightly re-arranged the matter so as to adapt it more fully to the capacity of Public School pupils. The book will be sold to pupils and the public for twenty-five cents. It will not fail to be observed that, though containing all of the matter of the English edition, it is only one-half of the price. The plan of the work will readily commend itself. Each branch of the subject is presented in simple language, and arranged in a short lesson, to which questions are appended. The information imparted, while of the most interesting and valuable character, is made as general as is consistent with a knowledge of the subject; the intention being not so much to give details and technicalities, as to explain the effects of alcohol on the human system, and to impress the pupil with the danger of its use.
