Book Population Ageing A Threat to the Welfare State

Download or read book Population Ageing A Threat to the Welfare State written by Tommy Bengtsson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-02 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tommy Bengtsson Population ageing, the shift in age distribution towards older ages, is of immense global concern. It is taking place to a varying degree all over the world, more in Europe and some Asian countries, less on the African continent. The worldwide share of people aged 65 years and above is predicted to increase from 7. 5% in 2005 to 16. 1% in 2050 (UN 2007, p. 11). The corresponding ?gures for developed countries are 15. 5 and 26. 2% and for developing countries 5. 5 and 14. 6%. While population ageing has been going on for some time in the developed world, and will continue to do so, most of the change is yet to come for the developing world. The change in developing countries, however, is going to be much faster than it has been in the developed world. For example, while it took more than 100 years in France and more than 80 years in Sweden for the population group aged 65 and above to increase from 7 to 14% of the population, the same change in Japan took place over a 25-year period (UN 2007, p. 13). The scenario for the future is very similar for most developing countries, including highly populated countries like China, India and Brazil. While the start and the speed differ, the shift in age structure towards older ages is a worldwide phenomenon, stressing the signi?cance of the concept global ageing.

By examining Sweden s healthcare coordination, homecare technology, dementia care, and eHealthcare initiatives, Aging with Dignity makes the case for best practices. It is our hope that readers will recognize as universal both the challenges and the innovative solutions presented here.

Book The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning

Download or read book The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning written by Margareta Magnusson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-01-02 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *The basis for the wonderfully funny and moving TV series developed by Amy Poehler and Scout Productions* A charming, practical, and unsentimental approach to putting a home in order while reflecting on the tiny joys that make up a long life. In Sweden there is a kind of decluttering called döstädning, dö meaning “death” and städning meaning “cleaning.” This surprising and invigorating process of clearing out unnecessary belongings can be undertaken at any age or life stage but should be done sooner than later, before others have to do it for you. In The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, artist Margareta Magnusson, with Scandinavian humor and wisdom, instructs readers to embrace minimalism. Her radical and joyous method for putting things in order helps families broach sensitive conversations, and makes the process uplifting rather than overwhelming. Margareta suggests which possessions you can easily get rid of (unworn clothes, unwanted presents, more plates than you’d ever use) and which you might want to keep (photographs, love letters, a few of your children’s art projects). Digging into her late husband’s tool shed, and her own secret drawer of vices, Margareta introduces an element of fun to a potentially daunting task. Along the way readers get a glimpse into her life in Sweden, and also become more comfortable with the idea of letting go.

Book Architecture for Residential Care and Ageing Communities

Download or read book Architecture for Residential Care and Ageing Communities written by Sten Gromark and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-10-19 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architecture for Residential Care and Ageing Communities confronts urgent architectural design challenges within residential innovation, ageing communities and healthcare environments. The increasing and diversified demands on the housing market today call for alterability and adaptability in long term solutions for new integrated ways of residing. Meanwhile, an accentuated ageing society requires new residential ways of living, combining dignity, independence and appropriate care. Concurrently, profound changes in technical conditions for home healthcare require rethinking healing environments. This edited collection explores the dynamics between these integrated architectural and caring developments and intends to envision reconfigured environmental design patterns that can significantly enhance new forms of welfare and ultimately, an improved quality of life. This book identifies, presents, and articulates new qualities in designs, in caring processes, and healing atmospheres, thereby providing operational knowledge developed in close collaboration with academics, actors and stakeholders in architecture, design, and healthcare. This is an ideal read for those interested in health promotive situations of dwelling, ageing and caring.

Book Organization and Financing of Public Health Services in Europe

Download or read book Organization and Financing of Public Health Services in Europe written by Who Regional Office for Europe and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2018-06-29 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are public health services? Countries across Europe understand what they are or what they should include differently. This study describes the experiences of nine countries detailing the ways they have opted to organize and finance public health services and train and employ their public health workforce. It covers England France Germany Italy the Netherlands Slovenia Sweden Poland and the Republic of Moldova and aims to give insights into current practice that will support decision-makers in their efforts to strengthen public health capacities and services. Each country chapter captures the historical background of public health services and the context in which they operate; sets out the main organizational structures; assesses the sources of public health financing and how it is allocated; explains the training and employment of the public health workforce; and analyses existing frameworks for quality and performance assessment. The study reveals a wide range of experience and variation across Europe and clearly illustrates two fundamentally different approaches to public health services: integration with curative health services (as in Slovenia or Sweden) or organization and provision through a separate parallel structure (Republic of Moldova). The case studies explore the context that explain this divergence and its implications. This study is the result of close collaboration between the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and the WHO Regional Office for Europe Division of Health Systems and Public Health. It accompanies two other Observatory publications Organization and financing of public health services in Europe and The role of public health organizations in addressing public health problems in Europe: the case of obesity alcohol and antimicrobial resistance (both forthcoming).

Book The Care for the Elderly in Sweden and in Japan

Download or read book The Care for the Elderly in Sweden and in Japan written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to compare the care of the elderly in Sweden and in Japan. The method was a study of newspapers and reports, practice at old age homes and similar institutions, and interviews. In Japan, the family still has the reponsibility for the care of the elderly. The cost of health care for the elderly in Japan is about half of the cost in Sweden. The privatization of elderly care is more popular in Japan, but the profit-making geriatric hospitals in Japan have a very low standard. In Japan, social service is considered to be only for poor people, so elderly people prefer health care to social service.

Book An Overview of Quality of Life by Elderly Receiving Care in Sweden

Download or read book An Overview of Quality of Life by Elderly Receiving Care in Sweden written by Raiffeison Ngoh and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general aim of this book is to examine the "Quality of Life" by elderly receiving care in Sweden. The study will investigate elderly who are receiving care, how they conceptualize and express quality of life. It will show how key persons in the elders' network understand these services and which structural factors are considered important. My interest is the increasing elderly population and the valuable role they play in their various communities. Their contributions can only be ensured if the elders enjoy good health and if societies address their needs; these have attracted many researchers from multidisciplinary back grounds to seek ways by which quality of life for the elderly can be enhanced. Sweden's elderly care policies are in compromise with this ambition as will be trace in this book. However, my perspective is a social workers' in which social political structures as well as individuals well-being will be in focus. Such a design will try to find out what kind of support the elderly receive and how they understand these supports. A book like this can be recommended to NGOs, researchers, policy makers working in the area of elderly care.

Book Recent Reforms in the Swedish Health Care System

Download or read book Recent Reforms in the Swedish Health Care System written by Randolph Quaye and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2007 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Good health and equal access to health and medical care are the fundamental aspects of the Swedish welfare state. In recent years, however, economic incentives have become more and more important in health care, even in welfare states such as Sweden. In a decade and a half, Sweden has experimented with different health care modalities. As far as we know, relatively little research has been done to assess how these financial incentives, over time, have affected Sweden and the views of physicians. This work analyzes the implications of these reforms on the future structure of the well-envied health care of the Swedes.

Book The Development of Security and Whole Care System for the Aged in China

Download or read book The Development of Security and Whole Care System for the Aged in China written by Yanzhong Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-25 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the process of population aging in China and its unique features, considers the social progress implied in China becoming a society with an aging population, and assesses the tremendous risks and challenges involved. Based on the development of pension security systems around the world, the book studies the status quo and future requirements of the Chinese pension security system from the perspectives of capital, service and spirit, and puts forwards a three-pillar pension security system that is in conformity with China’s current situation – and reflects the developmental trend that, in future, social security will likely transform from material security into comprehensive security. In addition, the book analyzes the Chinese pension security system. While integrating international perspectives, its main focus is on statistical analysis, combining theory with practice, and qualitative with quantitative analysis. As such, the book not only offers a “wi ndow” for the world on the status and evolution of China’s pension security system, but also an opportunity for international academic dialogues.
