Book The Sutra of Great Liberation

Download or read book The Sutra of Great Liberation written by Shakyamuni Buddha and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2024-05-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Whoever sees this sutra sees the face of the Buddha. Whoever holds this sutra holds the body of the Buddha. Whoever practices this sutra practices the activities of the Buddha. Whoever explains this sutra explains the activities of the Buddha. Whoever understands the meaning of this sutra understands the meaning of the Buddha." The unimaginable benefits of engaging with The Sutra of Great Liberation (thar pa chhen pöi do) featured most prominently in the later years of Lama Zopa Rinpoche's teachings, although Rinpoche is reported to have spoken of them as early as 20O6. Rinpoche emphasized that engaging with the sutra in any way, even unintentionally, is profoundly beneficial. Let alone reciting the sutra or its mantra, even hearing any part of the sutra or keeping a copy of the sutra brings immeasurable benefit. Reciting the sutra, for instance, also easily purifies negative karma. Some of the myriad and powerful ways that it helps us to overcome suffering and attain enlightenment are mentioned in the sutra itself: "Son of the lineage, reading aloud and holding this sutra, even if you were previously an evil person endowed with negativities, makes you now one endowed with virtue. Even if you previously had suffering, now you have resources... Even if you previously had contamination, now you are free from contamination... Even if you were previously in contradiction with the path of Dharma, now you enter the path of the aryas. Even though you have the body of an ordinary being, because of reading aloud and holding this sutra, your mind is like the wisdom of an arya. Even though you previously had afflictions, because of reading aloud and holding this sutra, you have the passing beyond sorrow that is similar to that of a buddha bhagavan." The Sutra of Great Liberation is formally titled The Arya Mahayana Sutra Called "Arya All-Expansive Great Liberation, Purifying Negative Deeds through Cleansing Remorse, Perfectly Arranged Accomplishment of Buddhahood" (Phag pa thar pa chhen po chhog su gyä pa gyö tshang kyi dig jang te sang gyä su drub par nam par kö pa theg pa chhen pöi do). The Tibetan text, found in the Kangyur, is a translation of the Chinese rendition, the Sanskrit source text having been lost over the course of time. This translation was undertaken by Ven. Gyalten Lekden at the behest of Rinpoche, who, seeing its benefits, wished for it to be made easily accessible to more people. 188 pages, 2023 Edition.

Book Enjoy Life Liberated from the Inner Prison

Download or read book Enjoy Life Liberated from the Inner Prison written by Lama Zopa Rinpoche and published by Lama Yeshe Wisdom Archive. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When terrible things happen in life and there’s little we can do to change them, the only option seems to be either anger or despair. This is the reality for prison inmates. They have no power over their circumstances. Many have long sentences, some have been wrongly accused and some even await execution. Their environment is often overcrowded, ugly, violent and full of noise, “like being in a rock concert all day,” as one man reported. There is nothing to look forward to and often no one to turn to. For the past twenty-five years, Liberation Prison Project has been a lifeline for prisoners, first in the United States and also in Australia, Italy, Mongolia, New Zealand and other countries, who turned to LPP, asking for Buddhist books and spiritual advice in an effort to find meaning in life when everything else has been lost. This book is a compilation of advice from Lama Zopa Rinpoche, the spiritual director of LPP, in response to letters from more than one hundred prisoners, mainly in the USA, edited into a coherent narrative. Rinpoche’s advice is that, actually, their prison “is nothing in comparison with their inner prison—the prison of anger, the prison of attachment, the prison of ignorance.” That prison, Rinpoche says, they can definitely change. And why should they? Because, simply put, happiness and suffering come from the mind, not the external world. The extent of the heartfelt compassion and love that Rinpoche offers the men who write to him is incredible. He empowers them to never give up on the development of their potential and their ability to help others. The advice in the book is not just for prisoners. It is for all of us.

Book The Tibetan Book of the Great Liberation

Download or read book The Tibetan Book of the Great Liberation written by W. Y. Evans-Wentz and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2000-09-28 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tibetan Book of the Great Liberation, which was unknown to the Western world until its first publication in 1954, speaks to the quintessence of the Supreme Path, or Mah=ay=ana, and fully reveals the yogic method of attaining Enlightenment. Such attainment can happen, as shown here, by means of knowing the One Mind, the cosmic All-Consciousness, without recourse to the postures, breathings, and other techniques associated with the lower yogas. The original text for this volume belongs to the Bardo Thödol series of treatises concerning various ways of achieving transcendence, a series that figures into the Tantric school of the Mah=ay=ana. Authorship of this particular volume is attributed to the legendary Padma-Sambhava, who journeyed from India to Tibet in the 8th century, as the story goes, at the invitation of a Tibetan king. Padma-Sambhava's text per se is preceded by an account of the great guru's own life and secret doctrines. It is followed by the testamentary teachings of the Guru Phadampa Sangay, which are meant to augment the thought of the other gurus discussed herein. Still more useful supplementary material will be found in the book's introductory remarks, by its editor Evans-Wentz and by the eminent psychoanalyst C. G. Jung. The former presents a 100-page General Introduction that explains several key names and notions (such as Nirv=ana, for starters) with the lucidity, ease, and sagacity that are this scholar's hallmark; the latter offers a Psychological Commentary that weighs the differences between Eastern and Western modes of thought before equating the "collective unconscious" with the Enlightened Mind of the Buddhist. As with the other three volumes in the late Evans-Wentz's critically acclaimed Tibetan series, all four of which are being published by Oxford in new editions, this book also features a new Foreword by Donald S. Lopez.
