Book excerpt: This beginner's guide to Marx's Capital was written by Edward Aveling. Aveling spent much of his life as the partner of Marx's youngest daughter, Eleanor. The two didn't marry because he was the estranged husband of another woman. That woman died, and Aveling continued to be with Eleanor, but he eventually married a different woman. He returned to Eleanor when he was sick, and she tended to him for a few months before committing suicide. He died four months later.

Book The Students Marx

Download or read book The Students Marx written by Edward Bibbins Aveling and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Students Marx: An Introduction to the Study of Karl Marx Capital The present work is an attempt to do for part of the writings of Karl Marx that which, in the Students' Darwin, I tried to do for the Whole of the writings of Charles Darwin. The Students' Marx is in tended for those Who have read, and for those Who have not read, the English translation of the first volume of Das Kapital that has been published by Messrs. Sonnenschein. To both, this volume may be of use as a brief analysis of the main facts, reasonings, and conclusions to be found in so much of Das Kapital as is at present rendered into English. Although there is a second volume of the work out in Germany, and although the third volume is nearly ready for publication in that country, and although, as yet, neither of these has been trans lated into English, the first volume, of which an analysis is here attempted, is complete in itself. Book An Introduction to the Three Volumes of Karl Marx s Capital

Download or read book An Introduction to the Three Volumes of Karl Marx s Capital written by Michael Heinrich and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global economic crisis and recession that began in 2008 had at least one unexpected outcome: a surge in sales of Karl Marx's Capital. Although mainstream economists and commentators once dismissed Marx's work as outmoded and flawed, some are begrudgingly acknowledging an analysis that sees capitalism as inherently unstable. And of course, there are those, like Michael Heinrich, who have seen the value of Marx all along, and are in a unique position to explain the intricacies of Marx's thought. Heinrich's modern interpretation of Capital is now available to English-speaking readers for the first time. It has gone through nine editions in Germany, is the standard work for Marxist study groups, and is used widely in German universities. The author systematically covers all three volumes of Capital and explains all the basic aspects of Marx's critique of capitalism in a way that is clear and concise. He provides background information on the intellectual and political milieu in which Marx worked, and looks at crucial issues beyond the scope of Capital, such as class struggle, the relationship between capital and the state, accusations of historical determinism, and Marx's understanding of communism. Uniquely, Heinrich emphasizes the monetary character of Marx's work, in addition to the traditional emphasis on the labor theory of value, this highlighting the relevance of Capital to the age of financial explosions and implosions.

Book The Philosophy Of Praxis

Download or read book The Philosophy Of Praxis written by Andrew Feenberg and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2014-08-12 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early Marx called for the “realization of philosophy” through revolution. Revolution thus became a critical concept for Marxism, a view elaborated in the later praxis perspectives of Lukács and the Frankfurt School. These thinkers argue that fundamental philosophical problems are, in reality, social problems abstractly conceived. Originally published as Lukács, Marx and the Sources of Critical Theory, The Philosophy of Praxis traces the evolution of this argument in the writings of Marx, Lukács, Adorno and Marcuse. This reinterpretation of the philosophy of praxis shows its continuing relevance to contemporary discussions in Marxist political theory, continental philosophy and science and technology studies.
