Book Inheritance of Stone Book 2

Download or read book Inheritance of Stone Book 2 written by Gloria T. August and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-01-29 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book continues on from first book. Focus is on Italian immigrants in Southeastern Colorado and the life of the new immigrants near Ludlow and Trinidad, Colorado. Author raises questions about unanswered questions that still permeate around the Ludlow Massacre. The life of the immigrants is underscored as we explore how the immigrants went for being citizens of Italy to citizens of the United State. The life of these immigrants centered around the mines in rural Colorado. Although the immigrant communities were formed from immigrants from a round the world, as well as rural Southerners, black and white, who did not share one another's languages and dialects the common living and dying together bridged any language gaps. There was joy and there was tragedy but in the end, the immigrants emerged as American.

Book Spitz and Fisher s Medicolegal Investigation of Death

Download or read book Spitz and Fisher s Medicolegal Investigation of Death written by Werner U. Spitz and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2020-07-20 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not just a new edition but a different book, emphasizing trauma and wound analysis. The addition of a new co-editor, Dr. Francisco J. Diaz, has brought new ideas to this fifth edition. A chapter by Doctor Jan Leetsma, world-renowned neuropathologist, has also been included. Doctor Leetsma’s vast experience in forensic neuropathology will certainly enhance this book. Several chapters have been eliminated that are no longer applicable or which are adequately covered in other publications. Over time, in the past 48 years, since this book was first published, Medicolegal Investigation of Death has been dubbed the “Bible of Forensic Pathology.” The fifth edition includes over 600 case reports and hundreds of color photographs. The cases are from files the authors have personally handled. According to author Spitz, “We have found many times analysis of small wounds will lead to understanding of a giant case—like the case in Hawaii, where a body was found under a full-size van, with a thread mark on the cheek consistent with having been hit with a black pipe used for gas lines that were found in a bucket in the rear of the van. As it turned out, this was a murder, not an accident.” The book is full of such cases. This book will help you understand the details of injuries and how a person was injured and how they died and how these injuries, perhaps at first blush possibly seemingly insignificant, can shed new light on a case. Medicolegal Investigation of Death now embraces not just basic forensic pathology but also includes death during restraint, conscious pain and suffering and new concepts related to the interpretation of injuries by detailed wound analysis. The continued use of simple, non-technical terminology makes this book a truly unique treatise and source of information.

Book I Am Still With You

Download or read book I Am Still With You written by Emmanuel Iduma and published by Algonquin Books. This book was released on 2023-02-21 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this “epic and intimate” memoir (Margo Jefferson, author of Constructing a Nervous System), acclaimed writer Emmanuel Iduma returns to Nigeria to investigate the disappearance of his uncle and confront the truth about a war that shaped him, his family, and a nation: “Quietly brilliant” (Vulture) NAMED A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR BY THE NEW YORKER AND TIME MAGAZINE In inimitable, rhythmic prose, the author and winner of the prestigious Windham-Campbell Prize Emmanuel Iduma tells the story of his return to Nigeria, where he grew up, after years of living in New York. He traveled home with an elusive mission: to learn the fate of his uncle Emmanuel, his namesake, who disappeared in the Nigerian Civil War in the late 1960s. A conflict that left so many families broken, the war remains at the margins of the history books, almost taboo to discuss. To find answers, Iduma stopped in city after city throughout the former Biafra region, reconnecting with relatives dear and distant to probe their memories, prowling university libraries to furtively photocopy illicit books, and visiting half-abandoned monuments along the highway. Perhaps, he realized, if he could understand how his father grieved the loss of a brother in the war, he might learn how to grieve his late father in turn. His is also the story of countless families across the country and across the world who will never have answers or proper funerals for their loved ones. It’s a story about the birth of an artist, about writing itself as an act both healing and political, even dangerous. And it’s a story about family history and legacy, and all the questions the dead leave unanswered. How much of the author’s identity is wrapped up in this inheritance? And what does it mean to return home, when the people who define it are gone? Equal parts memoir, national history, and political reckoning, I Am Still With You is a profoundly personal story of collective loss and making peace with the unknowable.
