Download or read book Disney Declassified written by Aaron H. Goldberg and published by Quaker Scribe. This book was released on 2016-01-13 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the world of Disney Declassified, a REAL look at some of the situations that play out in their theme parks, their corporate boardroom and all too often, a courtroom. Some of the situations are heartbreaking, others are head-scratching, and all of them are tales Disney would rather you not hear. Walt Disney, the company bearing his name, and their theme parks have been analyzed and chronicled almost ad nauseam. The word Disney conjures up different feelings for different people. For many, The Walt Disney Company stands for all things wholesome, family-centric, moral and entertaining, but every now and then scandalous and salacious behavior seeps into the utopian world of Disney. Disney Declassified isn't about the analysis of the Disney Company at a deep or philosophical level--actually, it's quite the contrary; it's a collection of true stories with Disney being the setting or the catalyst in situations that are very un-Disney-like. In some of these instances, not every Disney story ends happily ever after; • The shocking time a baby was born and abandoned in a Magic Kingdom toilet. • When an eight-year-old girl was randomly shot in the back while riding aboard the Disneyland Railroad. • The controversial story of a handicapped woman having her Disneyland annual pass suspended for speeding and running into other guests with her motorized scooter. • What do a priest accused of molesting multiple children and the founder of a Ponzi scheme have in common? They both fled their situations and went to work at Walt Disney World. • The role a former Nazi SS member played in the construction of Walt Disney World. • Two hostage situations at Walt Disney World, with one at EPCOT tragically ending in suicide. • How a peeping Tom set up an elaborate system to spy on female cast members as they changed for work inside of Cinderella's Castle. • Ever hear of something called "Sphinctering?" If you were one of the unlucky guys working for the fire company on Walt Disney World property, you may have been subjected to this form of male-on-male sexual harassment. • Find out how the public helped to identify and track down a despicable child pornographer based on the Disney resort in the background images the police released from his reprehensible videos. The Disney docket doesn't end with cases of ride accidents, sex, crimes, death and violence. There are multiple stories of people faking cancer to score a free trip to Walt Disney World, interesting copyright infringement and Americans with Disability Act lawsuits and a touching story how a young boy with autism utilizes Disney characters to communicate with his family. However you feel about Disney, lover or hater, explore these stories and many more, when the real world collides with Disney and their world. Chances are you may never view Disney the same way again!

Book Walt Disney s Missouri

    Book Details:
  • Author : Brian Burnes
  • Publisher : Kansas City Star Books
  • Release : 2002
  • ISBN : 0971708061
  • Pages : 224 pages

Download or read book Walt Disney s Missouri written by Brian Burnes and published by Kansas City Star Books. This book was released on 2002 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The range of Walt Disney's accomplishments is remarkable. He is considered the most successful filmmaker in history. He won 32 Academy Awards, far more than those of any other filmmaker. He revolutionized the amusement park and resort industries, and his theme parks have been praised as among the most outstanding urban designs in the United States. As Ward Kimball, one of Walt Disney's most prominent animators, once said, "At the bottom line Walt was a down-to-earth farmer's son who just happened to be a genius." Walt Disney spent his formative years in Missouri. Some of the direct influences of these years on his career are documented in this book. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," the first feature-length animated film to be produced, was inspired by a black-and-white, live-action silent film version of "Snow White" that he viewed as a teen-ager in Kansas City. A theatrical production of "Peter Pan" that he saw as a child in Marceline, Mo., led to his own animated version of the story. Born in Chicago in December 1901, he moved with his family to a farm near Marceline, where he lived from ages 4 to 9. "To tell the truth," Walt Disney once wrote, "more things of importance happened to me in Marceline than have happened since--or are likely to in the future." The town of Marceline was the inspiration for many features of future Disney theme parks, and the pastoral setting he lived in there is also reflected in many of his films. Except for a couple of years spent in Chicago and France, Disney lived in Kansas City from 1911 to 1923. During his years in Kansas City he learned the discipline that would enable him to persevere and prevail through the many hardships he experienced as a struggling filmmaker. It was in Kansas City that he trained to become a commercial artist and an animator, and Kansas City was the location of his first film production studio, Laugh-O-gram Films. Walt Disney's Missouri not only tells the story of the young Disney growing up, but it also paints a picture of the Kansas City he knew. With the bankruptcy of Laugh-O-gram Films, Disney moved to California, drawing with him many of his Kansas City colleagues, who would eventually win fame in animation themselves. This richly illustrated book describes Disney's Missouri years and chronicles his many connections and returns to the state until his death in 1966. The book also details two little-know projects in Missouri that Disney seriously considered in his later years--theme parks in his "hometown," Marceline, and in St. Louis. As his daughter Diane Disney Miller says in the foreword to the book, Walt Disney was "truly a Missourian."

Book Service with Character

Download or read book Service with Character written by David Lesjak and published by . This book was released on 2014-06-01 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DISNEY GOES TO WAR World War II had a profound impact on Walt Disney and his Studio. When the Nazi juggernaut rolled across Europe, theater doors were shuttered causing Disney's ledger to turn from black to red. Prewar, Disney films were distributed to 55 countries. By 1944, the majority of the company's revenue was being generated by just three countries. Disney adapted by having his Studio declared a war plant. Government work sustained the Studio for the war's duration, and Walt Disney, ever the patriot, offered his services at cost or for free. The classic fairy tales were quickly replaced with military training films, and propaganda films the Studio's Publicity Department labeled "psychological productions". Disney characters also pitched in on the home front. Mickey and the rest of the gang promoted war bonds, savings stamps, rationing, victory gardens, and salvage campaigns. And as new fighting units were formed, Disney artists fulfilled 1,200 requests for combat insignia sent in by servicemen looking for a familiar reminder of life back home. Service With Character explores this fascinating history of the Disney Studios. As one newspaper writer reported: "How fortunate America is to have Walt [Disney] on the job today. He's a...genius for whom the Axis would gladly give a dozen crack divisions."

Book The Making of Disney s Jungle Cruise

Download or read book The Making of Disney s Jungle Cruise written by Michael Goldman and published by Disney Electronic Content. This book was released on 2021-07-30 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like the famed theme park attraction and brand-new feature film that this volume examines, The Making of Disney’s Jungle Cruise takes readers on a unique and fascinating journey. It’s an odyssey through the history and legacy of one of the most original ideas ever to come out of Walt Disney’s fertile mind, first planned for the opening of his revolutionary new theme park in 1955. This book travels from the debut of what was called the Jungle River Cruise on Disneyland’s opening day, through the arrival at long last of the thrilling feature film starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.On Disneyland’s opening day of July 17, 1955, the park’s first guests boarded authentically styled riverboats to take the first Jungle Cruises. This unique riverboat-themed attraction in Adventureland takes visitors on a short journey down expertly simulated versions of the most prominent tropical rivers of the world, including the Amazon and the Nile, to witness wild animals, exotic sights, and thrills only a handful of intrepid real-world explorers had experienced in the past. A hilarious (and “punny”) Jungle Cruise skipper narrates all the sights and action from beginning to end. This Jungle Cruise experience would ultimately be woven into three other Disney parks, where the ride was likewise an opening-day attraction—simulating comedic high-adventure cruises through rivers in the continents of South America, Africa, and Asia. Fast-forward decades and, at long last, production on the movie commenced. The project was influenced by director Jaume Collet-Serra’s love of The African Queen, Indiana Jones films, and Romancing the Stone, among others, and built on the foundation of key elements of the theme park attraction. From the re-creation of the Amazon River to the film’s hilarious take on famous skipper puns and the reams of Easter eggs for longtime fans, the Jungle Cruise movie captures the same excitement and joy as the theme park attraction, and

Book The Early Life of Walt Disney

Download or read book The Early Life of Walt Disney written by Andrew Stanley Kiste and published by White Owl. This book was released on 2021-10-30 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most biographies of Walt Disney portray him as a creative genius who revolutionized the entertainment industry during the first half of the twentieth century. While he did transform the medium of animation, quickly becoming a household name during his late thirties, many biographies tell the story of Walt Disney’s development in a historical vacuum, separate from the historical events happening around him. However, while Walt Disney was certainly a history-influencer, historical events happening in America and the world also shaped the entertainment pioneer he would become. As the twentieth century began, a new form of entertainment, “motion pictures,” would emerge, capturing the imagination of a young boy from Missouri. Over the next several years, Walt Disney would begin to hone his art skills, overcoming a number of hurdles including numerous relocations, a brutal paper route, a deployment to Europe in the days after World War One, numerous bankruptcies, and even homelessness. It was these adversities, along with the historical events that surrounded him, that would influence the man he would become. For the first time ever, The Origins of Walt Disney tells some important stories that help to flesh out the Disney history. How instrumental was Elias Disney’s career as a carpenter in Chicago? Why did the Disneys really leave Chicago to move to Marceline, Missouri? What types of jobs did Walt perform in France in the days following World War One? How was Walt influenced by the budding industry of animation in America? In addition to answering these questions, The Origins of Walt Disney also includes a tour of the newly restored Walt Disney Birthplace, a new museum located in the childhood home of Walt Disney in Chicago, Illinois!
