The ox and cow are liable to many diseases from which the horse claims immunity; but in the former class of animals, disease, as a rule, requires a much longer time to develop; while it must be remembered that from the habits of the bovine race considerable difficulty is often experienced in detecting trouble, as the manifestations or symptoms of disease in them are in a great measure held in abeyance for several days ; therefore the uninitiated may ignore or despise a characteristic sign that would at once put the cautious man on the alert. Our object, then, is to convey such information as will enable all who are interested to determine what is wrong, and to assist in its rectification as speedily as possible. "We have all an incumbent duty to perform towards the lower animals, and there is none more worthy of our sympathy and help than the ox and cow, whose ailments we will now consider.
