Book The Stills of My Life

Download or read book The Stills of My Life written by Survivorsurd and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2019-12-02 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, people believe in astrology when they fail and in doctors’ decisions when they are sick. People have forgotten the importance of belief. One must understand that they exist for a reason, which will be realized with time. Competition and anxiety often lead to individuals trusting astrologers more than themselves. The mind turns into a chaotic space when humans fall ill. Instead of understanding what would possibly have gone wrong and find ways to rectify the same, we seek the help of doctors. Doctors are considered to be the second gods who save people’s lives, and the author truly believed this until he met someone in his life who disproved this fact. The power of belief is incredible. The author never stopped believing in himself even after the doctor put him down by giving hints of his inevitable demise, which affected both his mental and physical health so much so that he was unable to walk. This, in turn, made the author get in touch with astrologers who also predicted his impending death. The author decided to take steps against the decisions of the doctors and astrologers, believing that something different could happen. And with hard work and belief, finally, it did!

Ohio, 1927: Moonshining is a way of life in rural Bronwyn County, and even the otherwise upstanding Sheriff Lily Ross has been known to turn a blind eye when it comes to stills in the area. But when thirteen-year-old Zebediah Harkins almost dies after drinking tainted moonshine, Lily knows that someone has gone too far, and—with the help of organizer and moonshiner Marvena Whitcomb—is determined to find out who. But then, Lily’s nemesis, the businessman George Vogel, reappears in town with his new wife, Fiona. Along with them is also her former brother-in-law Luther Ross, now an agent for the newly formed Bureau of Prohibition. To Lily, it seems too much of a coincidence that they should arrive now. As fall turns to winter, a blizzard closes in. Lily starts to peel back the layers of deception shrouding the town of Kinship, but soon she discovers that many around her seem to be betraying those they hold dear—and that Fiona too may have an agenda of her own.

Book excerpt: Two legendary photographers meditate on death, memory and ritual The latest collaboration between these two seminal photographers, Leben und Todis the culmination of their joint exhibition at artspace AM, Tokyo, in 2019. This intensely personal project concentrates on Juergen Teller's (born 1964) series Leben und Tod(Life and Death), which reflects upon the death of his uncle and stepfather Artur, juxtaposing photographs of his mother and homeland in Bubenreuth, Bavaria, with symbolic images of fertility and life on holiday in Bhutan with his partner Dovile Drizyte. Inspired by this series, Nobuyoshi Araki (born 1940) asked to photograph Teller's "childhood memory objects," items of particular emotional significance to him and his parents. Teller eagerly collected such personal gems, among them toys, a porcelain figurine and bridges made in the family's violin workshop; the resulting images by Araki are haunting yet playful, creating an intriguing narrative alongside the original story.

Book My Life is like a Fairy Tale

Download or read book My Life is like a Fairy Tale written by Robert Irwin and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Robert Irwin vividly and brilliantly blends the fictional life and all-too-real times of a film star of the Nazi era in this a narrative of diminishing options and the advance to death and destruction. Cultured, clever and funny at times, in a grim Charles Adams way, Robert Irwin’s novel is engrossing and enveloping. From a dull Dutch childhood in Dordrecht and a waitressing job, sexy Sonja Heda, cigarette in hand, wangles her way on to the film sets of various independent production companies making the films of the Weimar and Nazi eras. From The Blue Angel, The Gypsy Baron, Jew Suss, Habanera and Munchausen she lands the starring role in the Nazi screwball comedy Bagdad Capers. Although German cinema became a key part of the Nazi war effort, the film industry continued to produce commercial films appealing to the varying film tastes of German filmgoers. Joseph Goebbels at the head of the Ministry of Propaganda propagated Nazi supremacist ideology and indoctrinate the population of Germany though film and radio, not unlike the way reality TV and social media are used today by populist politicians in the US and UK.’ Georgia de Chamberet in Ten Books for Independent Minds from Bookblast

Book My Life My War World War 2

Download or read book My Life My War World War 2 written by Stanley B. Loomis and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wars are started by a person or persons and are usually a quest for power for a person or a group of people and they don't really care how many people are killed nor how many families are losing a father, mother or brothers or whole families and their relatives. Sometimes, it is necessary to start a war by a peaceful nation against countries tat are harming and have the publically displayed their intentions to extend their borders by taking land from established country's land and people. This I would consider declaring a war to be the only necessary solution to the problem----but still a war with people getting maimed and killed. In World War One---Germany was the problem----once again lust for power. I wasn't even thought of at that period of time----in fact, I hadn't even arrived on the scene at that point of time. But, think about it for a moment-----there's not one inch of land that has increased in size in those thousands of years of civilization and wars. I was a training in Camp Blanding in Florida---we could look in any direction and there was a sign posted in large letters------"Kill or Be Killed"----"Kill or Be Killed". We were just 18 or 19 year old kids--------think about it--------"Kill or Be Killed"-what an education-but necessary to imprint it inside our young brains. It gave us young kids a reason to become killers-----hesitate for a second and you're dead. Back then in training, we used to repeat over and over was that wars were necessary to "Decrease The Surplus Population"--------It is most certainly a true statement.

My writing reflects growing up a part of two distinct, rich cultures; training as a scientist and public health professional; work and residence in three foreign countries Brazil, Jordan and Ecuador; a love of nature; and, great respect for our country, but concern about a decline in our nations values the growing hostility and intolerance, technology as a substitute for direct human contact, and excessive violence. I hope you will enjoy my poetry, find it interesting and thought-provoking. Sincerely, Joseph Baldi Acosta
