Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biblical image of the steward is highly provocative and even revolutionary. In recent years, environmentalists and peace marchers have been discovering the radical potential of the stewardship motif, while the church, sadly, has muffled this symbol's power in ecclesiastical wrappings. So writes Douglas John Hall in the first edition of 'The Steward' (1982). This provocative book has been so much in demand all over the world that Hall has completely rewritten, revised, and expanded his work, adding new material and deleting dated references. Yet Hall has kept his original book's basic format the same in this new and improved edition. In short, Hall aims to recapture the most basic meaning of the biblical metaphor of the 'steward' and to apply that meaning to our social context, one in which human beings are confused and ambivalent about their place and vocation in a threatened world. Working from numerous angles - biblical, historical, sociological, theological, and ecclesiastical - Hall explores the rich meaning and implications of stewardship. Scripture portrays the steward as a caretaker and servant. Hall compares scriptural teaching on stewardship - concentrated in Jesus' parables - with the role of stewardship in the church's history, maintaining that ever since the fourth century, the church's understanding and practice of stewardship have been distorted by its alliance with institutional power. Hall also puts forth apocalyptic warnings about the fate of the earth unless we heed the call to be stewards of the creation, work for world peace and justice, and nurture life in its many forms. The church around the world, says Hall, urgently needs to live as 'steward' - it is a matter of death and life.

Book Stepping Stones of the Steward

Download or read book Stepping Stones of the Steward written by Ronald E. Vallet and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1994 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand book and is therefore non- returnable. Taking the images of "journey" and "steward" as metaphors for the Christian's life, and using parables of Jesus found in Matthew and Luke, Ronald Vallet helps focus a truly biblical understanding of the term steward and the role of believers as earthly caretakers, neighbors, and responsible servants of God. Written to inform and encourage pastors and laypersons who seek to explore new dimensions in their Christian journey, Vallet's inspirational study teaches Christians how to gain a sense of purpose, how to properly use their resources, talents, and money, and how to reach out with compassion for the welfare of others and for the planet. This revised and enlarged edition includes important new discussions in the areas of faith and money and environmental issues. M. Douglas Meeks has written the foreword, and a new epilogue by Vallet explores the mission funding crisis of the church in North America, the changing views on both the church and its mission, and the important role played by theological education. Thought-provoking questions and suggestions for further reflection follow each chapter, and a study guide outlines ways to adapt this volume to adult and youth church and school classes, planning groups, conferences, and small-group settings.

Book Steward Leadership

Download or read book Steward Leadership written by Kurt April and published by Juta and Company (Pty) Ltd. This book was released on 2013-06-12 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steward leadership is a form of leadership that focuses on others, the community and society at large, rather than the self. Many senior leaders and executives across the globe appear to ‘naturally’ move into a stewardship mindset at a ripe age or when their careers have matured, whereas executives of around 30 years old, on average, are typically focused on their personal self-interests. The authors of Steward Leadership: a maturational perspective, who teach MBA courses around the world, wondered how to develop stewards at younger ages and set about creating a framework for stewardship and its requisite behaviour. Their research was conducted among a group of MBA students, testing nine stewardship attributes: personal vision, personal mastery, vulnerability and maturity, risk-taking and experimentation, mentoring, raising awareness, shared vision, valuing diversity, and delivering results. The outcome of the study, which is explored in this book, provides a base-line of attitudes which were tested against various demographic variables. In addition, the authors interviewed industry leaders from around the world to gauge their perspectives on and experience with the concept of stewardship and some of its dimensions, to gain qualitative insights. The results of their research provide the theoretical as well as consulting tools with which organisations can develop stewards, whether through training programmes, mentoring programmes, coaching initiatives and/or personal development practices. The authors believe that stewardship is a more viable and indeed better alternative to current leadership concepts. This book provides a roadmap by which contemporary and upcoming leaders can be guided into developing their leadership abilities – and become the stewards of the future.

Book excerpt: Does the Bible really offer guidance for the complicated financial system in our world today? CPA, author and personal financial counselor John Madison offers a resounding yes! Since retiring from full-time work as a CPA at the age of 49, he has written his new book, The Steward Plan, which explores how following Biblical guidelines can lead people at any stage of life to financial success God’s way. The Steward Plan covers many aspects of becoming the financial steward God desires, including how to set financial goals, tithing guidance and strategies, creating a blueprint for spending, eliminating debt from your life, growing your wealth wisely over time, removing unnecessary risk from your financial life, and developing a plan to bless future generations. Combining Scripture with practical and easy-to-understand financial terms, The Steward Plan will help you gain control over your money and live the life God designed for you. The Steward Plan is an outgrowth of Dayspring Financial Ministry, whose mission is to teach Biblical financial stewardship. Like all of Dayspring’s programs, The Steward Plan does not promote or attempt to sell any specific insurance or investing products. It is an independent source of financial information and education, free of any bias, other than conformity with Scripture.

Book excerpt: Leadership by the Good Book will inspire, empower, and equip men and women to lead their businesses, their teams, their ministries, and even their families to greater heights and to have an eternal impact. For David L. Steward, founder and chairman of World Wide Technology, his philosophy for building a successful business is simple and founded on a Biblical principle: "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve" (Mark 10:45 NIV). As a business leader, he says, the first priority is to serve employees. Together with Brandon K. Mann, these two leaders distill their wisdom in this field guide for leaders who want to bring respect, integrity, honesty, and trust to the workplace. Steward and Mann draw from personal experiences as well as share insights and examples of how God's Word has informed and influenced their leadership. Each chapter ends with a section titled Your Leadership Flywheel: Learn, Live, Lead, Legacy, which includes self-reflection questions, application of biblical principles, as well as a prayer.
