Book On the Stability of Spiral Flow Between Rotating Cylinders

Download or read book On the Stability of Spiral Flow Between Rotating Cylinders written by E. R. Krueger and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stability of a viscous fluid between two concentric rotating cylinders with an axial flow is investigated. Two methods of solution are employed to study this problem, when both cylinders are rotating in the same direction and when the gap between the cylinders is small. Results are given for small amounts of axial flow which indicate that the critical Taylor number increases with increasing amounts of axial flow. The results are compared with previous experimental and theoretical results. The problem when both cylinders are rotating in opposite directions is studied in the small gap case and results are obtained for small amounts of axial flow. These results indicate that the Taylor number increases with increasing amounts of axial flow. (Author).

Book Stability of Flow of a Non Newtonian Liquid Between Two Rotating Cylinders in the Presence of a Circular Magnetic Field

Download or read book Stability of Flow of a Non Newtonian Liquid Between Two Rotating Cylinders in the Presence of a Circular Magnetic Field written by M. N. L. Narasimhan and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stability of flow of certain non-Newtonian fluids between two rotating coaxial cylinders in the presence of a circular magnetic field is examined. The fluid in question is assumed to be an incmpressible Reiner-Rivlin fluid. The equations of motion for these non-Newtonian fluids governing marginal stability are derived, and boundary conditions for perfectly conducting cylinders (Fermi boundary conditions) are formulated for the cases of corotating and counterrotating cylinders, when the gap between the cylinders is small. The underlying characteristic value problem is solved by using an expansion in orthogonal functions method developed by Chandrasekhar to determine the critical Taylor numbers for marginal stability as stability criteria. Numerical calculations have been performed. It is found that the effect of crossviscosaty is to facilitate the onset of instability; whereas the effect of viscosity under similar conditions would be a stabilizing one. Thus the effect of cross-viscosity is found to be opposite that of viscosity in the stability analysis of the present case. (Author).

Book Differential Equations in Engineering

Download or read book Differential Equations in Engineering written by Nupur Goyal and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential Equations in Engineering: Research and Applications describes advanced research in the field of the applications of differential equations in engineering and the sciences, and offers a sound theoretical background, along with case studies. It describes the advances in differential equations in real life for engineers. Along with covering many advanced differential equations and explaining the utility of these equations, the book provides a broad understanding of the use of differential equations to solve and analyze many real-world problems, such as calculating the movement or flow of electricity, the motion of an object to and from, like a pendulum, or explaining thermodynamics concepts by making use of various mathematical tools, techniques, strategies, and methods in applied engineering. This book is written for researchers and academicians, as well as for undergraduate and postgraduate students of engineering.

Book Fluid Dynamics in Physics Engineering and Environmental Applications

Download or read book Fluid Dynamics in Physics Engineering and Environmental Applications written by Jaime Klapp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-14 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains invited lectures and selected contributions presented at the Enzo Levi and XVII Annual Meeting of the Fluid Dynamic Division of the Mexican Physical Society in 2011. It is aimed to fourth year undergraduate and graduate students, and scientists in the field of physics, engineering and chemistry that have interest in Fluid Dynamics from the experimental and theoretical point of view. The invited lectures are introductory and avoid the use of complicate mathematics. The other selected contributions are also adequate to fourth year undergraduate and graduate students. The Fluid Dynamics applications include multiphase flow, convection, diffusion, heat transfer, rheology, granular material, viscous flow, porous media flow, geophysics and astrophysics. The material contained in the book includes recent advances in experimental and theoretical fluid dynamics and is adequate for both teaching and research.
