The book encourages the readers to hold on to the people, places, moments that give them the comfort of a home because our memories, good or bad, are the reason why we are the people we are today. Book Reminiscences of the Early Days of Fort Worth

Download or read book Reminiscences of the Early Days of Fort Worth written by Joseph Christopher Terrell and published by . This book was released on 1906 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TCU Press is pleased to feature the collected letters of Larry L. King as our lead title. This project has been long in the making, and we're proud that Larry brought the book to us. We truly believe King is not only a very good writer and a very funny man, but his is an important voice in Texas and in the nation. These letters reveal sides of him not found in his fiction, essays, and plays. TCU Press has built a reputation for publishing local history. We believe it's our contribution to our community, and we now have fourteen titles relating to Fort Worth history in print. In this year of the city's sesquicentennial celebration, we are proud to add Angels on High, a photographic record of the creation and installation of the celebrated Bass Hall angels. We are also glad to cooperate with Texas Wesleyan University School of Law to return to print the slim but significant memoir, Early Days of Fort Worth by Captain J. C. Terrell. This rare volume, long unavailable, is almost the only source of Fort Worth history in the 1850s, immediately after the dragoons left their post. Fort Worth historian Judge Stephen King has written a fine after word placing the book in the context of its times.

Book Effects of Interpersonal Relationships on Shared Reminiscence

Download or read book Effects of Interpersonal Relationships on Shared Reminiscence written by Candice E. Condon and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-08-21 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You rely on your memories for who you are as a person, where you have been, and what you have experienced in your life to date. But, what if it turned out that these memories that you hold closely aren’t your memories at all? What if they were someone else’s memories? This book documents the results of a research project investigating the effects of interpersonal relationship factors on shared reminiscence. Although memory and the factors that influence it have been researched more in recent years, there has been limited research which has measured the specific interpersonal effects of familiarity, trust, confidence, and memory esteem on memory distortion. There are four empirical chapters in this book. Within these four chapters are four separate, but related, studies, which examine the effects of interpersonal factors on memory distortion for ordinary events and for flashbulb memory of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001.

Presented in three volumes, plus volume IV contains references, resources & further reading, they reveal the unity of the Eastern and Western branches of our perineal wisdom. Book Collective Memory and the Historical Past

Download or read book Collective Memory and the Historical Past written by Jeffrey Andrew Barash and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2020-11-29 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is one critical way we honor great tragedies: by never forgetting. Collective remembrance is as old as human society itself, serving as an important source of social cohesion, yet as Jeffrey Andrew Barash shows in this book, it has served novel roles in a modern era otherwise characterized by discontinuity and dislocation. Drawing on recent theoretical explorations of collective memory, he elaborates an important new philosophical basis for it, one that unveils profound limitations to its scope in relation to the historical past. Crucial to Barash’s analysis is a look at the radical transformations that symbolic configurations of collective memory have undergone with the rise of new technologies of mass communication. He provocatively demonstrates how such technologies’ capacity to simulate direct experience—especially via the image—actually makes more palpable collective memory’s limitations and the opacity of the historical past, which always lies beyond the reach of living memory. Thwarting skepticism, however, he eventually looks to literature—specifically writers such as Walter Scott, Marcel Proust, and W. G. Sebald—to uncover subtle nuances of temporality that might offer inconspicuous emblems of a past historical reality.

Book The Recovery of Unconscious Memories

Download or read book The Recovery of Unconscious Memories written by Matthew Hugh Erdelyi and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1998-05-08 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of memory recovery is now more important than ever with the controversy over delayed recall and false memory having spilled over from psychology to the courts and the public media. The Recovery of Unconscious Memories provides a comprehensive scientific treatment of a century of research that integrates for the first time the findings of the clinic and the laboratory. Included are authoritative treatments of hypnotic hypermnesia, free association and forced recall, the recovery of subliminal stimuli in dreams and fantasy, electrical recall, recovery of sensory-motor skills (also symptoms or "sick skills"), and modern mathematical decision theory analyses of true and false memories. Erdelyi's own ground-breaking research is presented, including his recent discovery of striking memory recoveries in long-delayed recall probes administered months after last testing. In a technical appendix, Erdelyi unveils for the first time a methodological solution to the problem of response bias in narrative recall.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who are we? What are we? How do we fit into the world? Or into the universe? These and other questions pertaining to ourselves and our environ ment are as compelling to us today as they were to our primitive ancestors. Throughout our history we have developed paradigms of thought that have attempted to answer these questions, each conceptual framework being par ticularly relevant to its age. We are, in the twentieth century, witnessing a complete reorganization of our thinking. We are now, with the aid of tech nology, able to bring together both ancient and new patterns of thought and to observe the emergence of a kaleidoscopic world view that is uniting the once dissonant theories of philosophy, religion, and science. This book sketches an historical picture of three world views that have shaped our ideas about ourselves. These conceptual formats that have so influenced us are not mutually exclusive and are present in all of us simulta neously, although to varying degrees depending upon our individual biases.
