Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the first edition of Doing Business with Latin America was published, the region was growing and the possibilities were endless. However, the recent global economic slowdown has hit Latin America, too, and so a second edition was needed in order to help British SMEs understand this new context and maximise their opportunities for success in more challenging times. In this fully revised second edition, Gabriela Castro-Fontoura, a native Latin America with wide experience in the UK, shares in a simple and friendly manner, what every UK SME needs to know about doing business with Latin America: the geography and the people of a fascinating continent; the exciting range of opportunities, as well as honestly exposing the barriers and how to handle them. From business etiquette to import barriers, from currency issues to how to organise a market visit, Gabriela explores the wealth of information that is out there, interviewing key business owners and experts, and translating this into a thoroughly researched yet very user-friendly book, with British efficiency and Latin American charm! The second edition addresses questions such as: How has Latin America changed in the last three years? How do you deal with a less buoyant region? Where are the opportunities now? Why is Latin America still a region worth considering in your export strategy? How do you go about doing business in this region today? A world of possibilities opens up for UK SMEs that know where to look. This book aims to be their first window into Latin America.

Download or read book Upgrading to Compete Global Value Chains Clusters and SMEs in Latin America written by Carlo Pietrobelli and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does enterprise participation in global markets ensure sustainable income growth? Policies have often been designed in the belief that this is true, but competitiveness and participation in international markets may take very different forms, and developing countries do not always benefit. This book presents a series of rich and original field studies from Latin America, conducted by the authors with the same consistent methodological approach, and represents a theory-generating exercise within clusters and economic development literature. The main question addressed is how Latin American small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may participate in global markets in ways that provide for sustainable income growth, the “high road” to competitiveness. In contrast, the “low road” is often typically followed by small firms from developing countries, which often compete by squeezing wages and revenues rather than by increasing productivity, salaries, and profits.

This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accounting has often been described as the language of business. As the increasing competition of overseas markets begins to affect even the smallest local companies, many more business professionals must become fluent in accounting principles and practice. Standardization of Financial Reporting and Accounting in Latin American Countries highlights the recent move to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and addresses some of the concerns raised due to cultural differences and the level of enforcement of these standards in separate countries. Describing the evolution of both financial and managerial accounting due to the adoption of IFRS, this book is an essential reference source for both students and seasoned professionals in the fields of accounting, finance, and related management fields, especially those with an international emphasis.
Download or read book Latin American Women and Research Contributions to the IT Field written by Negrón, Adriana Peña Pérez and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-12-18 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the effort to involve women in engineering has risen in recent years with the creation of new initiatives and the promotion of inclusion in technical disciplines, the active participation of women in engineering professions is continuously lower than expected. While the need for engineers appears to be constantly increasing, women still do not fill most of this role and have a long way to go to even reach an equal split in the field. This gender gap has a significant impact how women in the STEM fields are perceived as well as their experiences in their education and careers. When it comes to Latin American women in IT, their contribution to science can go unnoticed, their participation levels in these fields are very low, and they often occupy lower-level positions than their male counterparts. These issues need to be discussed, and the experiences of women who work in the field must be shared. Latin American Women and Research Contributions to the IT Field highlights the important role of Latin American women in IT by collecting and disseminating their frontier-research contributions in order to provide more visibility and inspire greater participation of Latin American women within the major field of computer science. With chapters contributed by female authors from eight Latin American and Caribbean countries, the book provides a deep analysis of these women’s trajectory paths to high quality theoretical and applied relevant research in computer science and IT. While highlighting areas such as inclusivity and STEM education, along with advancements and achievements in topics that include nonverbal interaction in virtual reality, fuzzy logic applications in education, and ant colony optimization, this book is ideal for professionals, academics, students, and researchers working in the fields of information technologies and computer science as well as those interested in gender and women’s studies.
Download or read book Cross Cutting Themes in Advanced Economies with Emerging Market Banking Links written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2011-11-14 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most recent decade has seen a growing presence of banks headquartered in advanced economies (AEs) expanding into emerging markets (EMs). These expansions have brought some benefits to both home and host countries, but the global financial crisis has also unmasked significant vulnerabilities inherent in such relationships. In keeping with past cross-cutting themes papers, this paper focuses on the experiences of four medium-sized ?home countries,? each with significant retail banking links to EMs—Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain. These countries were chosen because of their banks' diverse approaches to EM expansion (including the centralization of their funding models) and equally diverse crisis outcomes (fears over Eastern European exposures resulted in extraordinary policy efforts to maintain bank lending), providing fertile ground for analysis and for drawing lessons in the future.
