Book excerpt: The Sky Weeps Too is a poetry book that tells about self-love, love, compassion, and finding the courage within oneself. The Sky Weeps Too is a book where the destination of finding true love is defined on major levels, let the love be divine or mundane, spiritual or material. It tells that Love has no labels, no definitions and is simply pure and simple. To find self-love within oneself and to use that power to change the world. It tells us of a journey that we all descend on, from asking the question "who am I?" and the purpose of one's being in this finite world. The author weaves a picture where all of these questions are answered when one finds the voice inside themselves and know who they truly are. It is then when they unlock the secret of life. To know what power one possesses and how it can be used not change only their lives but the world too.

Book Adi s Muchachos

Download or read book Adi s Muchachos written by Sergio Ramírez and published by Duke University Press Books. This book was released on 2011-10-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adiós Muchachos is a candid insider’s account of the leftist Sandinista revolution in Nicaragua. During the 1970s, Sergio Ramírez led prominent intellectuals, priests, and business leaders to support the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), against Anastasio Somoza’s dictatorship. After the Sandinistas overthrew the Somoza regime in 1979, Ramírez served as vice-president under Daniel Ortega from 1985 until 1990, when the FSLN lost power in a national election. Disillusioned by his former comrades’ increasing intolerance of dissent and resistance to democratization, Ramírez defected from the Sandinistas in 1995 and founded the Sandinista Renovation Movement. In Adiós Muchachos, he describes the utopian aspirations for liberation and reform that motivated the Sandinista revolution against the Somoza regime, as well as the triumphs and shortcomings of the movement’s leadership as it struggled to turn an insurrection into a government, reconstruct a country beset by poverty and internal conflict, and defend the revolution against the Contras, an armed counterinsurgency supported by the United States. Adiós Muchachos was first published in 1999. Based on a later edition, this translation includes Ramírez’s thoughts on more recent developments, including the re-election of Daniel Ortega as president in 2006.

Book From a Low and Quiet Sea

Download or read book From a Low and Quiet Sea written by Donal Ryan and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SHORTLISTED FOR THE COSTA BOOK AWARD LONGLISTED FOR THE BOOKER PRIZE "Beautiful and affecting" -- David Nicholls, author of One Day A moving novel of three men, each searching for something they have lost, from the award-winning and Man Booker nominated author Donal Ryan. For Farouk, family is all. He has protected his wife and daughter as best he can from the war and hatred that has torn Syria apart. If they stay, they will lose their freedom, will become lesser persons. If they flee, they will lose all they have known of home, for some intangible dream of refuge in some faraway land across the merciless sea. Lampy is distracted; he has too much going on in his small town life in Ireland. He has the city girl for a bit of fun, but she's not Chloe, and Chloe took his heart away when she left him. There's the secret his mother will never tell him. His granddad's little sniping jokes are getting on his wick. And on top of all that, he has a bus to drive; those old folks from the home can't wait all day. The game was always the lifeblood coursing through John's veins: manipulating people for his enjoyment, or his enrichment, or his spite. But it was never enough. The ghost of his beloved brother, and the bitter disappointment of his father, have shadowed him all his life. But now that lifeblood is slowing down, and he's not sure if God will listen to his pleas for forgiveness. Three men, searching for some version of home, their lives moving inexorably towards a reckoning that will draw them all together.

Book Beyond the Sky and the Earth

Download or read book Beyond the Sky and the Earth written by Jamie Zeppa and published by Doubleday Canada. This book was released on 2011-01-28 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of Iron and Silk and Touch the Dragon, Jamie Zeppa’s memoir of her years in Bhutan is the story of a young woman’s self-discovery in a foreign land. It is also the exciting début of a new voice in travel writing. When she left for the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan in 1988, Zeppa was committing herself to two years of teaching and a daunting new experience. A week on a Caribbean beach had been her only previous trip outside Canada; Bhutan was on the other side of the world, one of the most isolated countries in the world known as the last Shangri-La, where little had changed in centuries and visits by foreigners were restricted. Clinging to her bags full of chocolate, hair conditioner and Immodium, she began the biggest challenge of her life, with no idea she would fall in love with the country and with a Bhutanese man, end up spending nine years in Bhutan, and begin a literary career with her account of this transformative journey. At her first posting in a remote village of eastern Bhutan, she is plunged into an overwhelmingly different culture with squalid Third World conditions and an impossible language. Her house has rats and fleas and she refuses to eat the local food, fearing the rampant deadly infections her overly protective grandfather warned her about. Gradually, however, her fear vanishes. She adjusts, begins to laugh, and is captivated by the pristine mountain scenery and the kind students in her grade 2 class. She also begins to discover for herself the spiritual serenity of Buddhism. A transfer to the government college of Sherubtse, where the housing conditions are comparatively luxurious and the students closer to her own age, gives her a deeper awareness of Bhutan’s challenges: the lack of personal privacy, the pressure to conform, and the political tensions. However, her connection to Bhutan intensifies when she falls in love with a student, Tshewang, and finds herself pregnant. After a brief sojourn in Canada to give birth to her son, Pema Dorji, she marries Tshewang and makes Bhutan her home for another four years. Zeppa’s personal essay about her culture shock on arriving in Bhutan won the 1996 CBC/Saturday Night literary competition and appeared in the magazine. She flew home to accept the prize, where people encouraged her to pursue her writing. Her letters from Bhutan also featured on CBC’s Morningside. The book that grew out of this has been published in Canada and the United States to ecstatic reviews, followed by British, German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish editions. Although cultural differences finally separated Jamie and Tshewang in 1997 while she was writing the book and she returned to Canada, she will always feel at home in Bhutan. Zeppa shares her compelling insights into this land and culture, but Beyond the Sky and the Earth is more than a travel book. With rich, spellbinding prose and bright humour, it describes a personal journey in which Zeppa acquires a deeper understanding of what it means to leave one’s home behind, and undergoes a spiritual transformation.

Book Sacred Black prose and poetry

Download or read book Sacred Black prose and poetry written by Charles Edward York and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-08-20 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sacred Black: prose and poetry is a thoughtful and compelling perspective on the racism, systematic discrimination, police brutality, gun violence and social injustice towards the African American community. It draws its narrative straight from the headlines and the personal experience of the author. Also included are personal reflections on love, sex, spirituality and astronomy. The author's aim is to bring these themes of injustice, perseverance and social response to a call to action and at the very least a thought-provoking dialogue of reconciliation and redemption.

Download or read book Realities of the Heart written by Emerson Patricio and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-03-21 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Realities of the Heart is your emotions manifested into words. It speaks for those who cannot express what they feel and for those who have more to say in the matter of love. With poetry so detailed, you will get the sense that it is your own feelings that they are describing. Contained in this book are emotions so real and intense that you may very well be overwhelmed with them, but you will see that they are necessary to convey the message that this is not a work of fiction but reality. From subject matter such as admiration, rejection, uncertainty, silence, devotion, even death, among others, you will take a trip into your own heart and mind. This book is meant to serve the purpose that emotions are by no means reserved for one individual, ethnicity, or age group. What you take away from this book is only what you get out of it. What you interpret is only what you read. How you feel is only what you experience. What you feel is also what others feel.
