Book The Single Market Programme as a Stimulus to Change

Download or read book The Single Market Programme as a Stimulus to Change written by David G. Mayes and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-10-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1994 book offers a comparison of British and German industries' reaction to the opportunities and threats offered by the single European market (SEM). It outlines the effect that the SEM was expected to have on the two countries and contrasts this with their actual progress based on published data and a detailed study of four industries. While the single European market has had an impact, many measures have had a far weaker effect than expected. The existence of other barriers not tackled by the SEM programme - weakened measures, poor implementation, global business trends and the recent recession - helps dominate the impact of the SEM. Nevertheless the SEM stands out as one of the striking influences on British and German industries for many years. Germany, with its geographical advantage and stronger manufacturing seems better placed to benefit, but the less regulated and often more flexible UK economy may have competitive advantages as the pressures increase.

Book Japanese Inward Investment in UK Car Manufacturing

Download or read book Japanese Inward Investment in UK Car Manufacturing written by Young-Chan Kim and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002. This compelling text provides fresh insight into an area that is often touched upon, but rarely examined in any great detail - the relationship between Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) and their host governments. Taking Japanese Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) strategy, arguably the model of FDI, Young-Chan Kim takes a revealing look at why the United Kingdom (UK) has dominated among the EU member states for FDI destination, while ironically losing its nationalized car manufacturers. Scholars of business history, international business and business economics will find this work invaluable.

Book The Death of Britain

Download or read book The Death of Britain written by J. Redwood and published by Springer. This book was released on 1999-05-20 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can the United Kingdom survive devolution, European integration, reform of the Lords, slimming of the monarchy and proportional representation? Will the new House of Lords be anything more than a rubber stamp full of friends of the Prime Minister? Will Scotland now shatter the Union by demanding full independence? In this dramatic new book John Redwood looks at the sweeping changes to Britain's institutions, democracy and the way of life now arising from the European project. Viewing the Blairite revolution as the agency for wider changes coming from the agenda of France, Germany and the European Commission, Redwood asks the key questions: are these changes inevitable, are they desirable, and what will they mean for British democracy?

This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has proved its worth over the years as a text for courses in Production Management at the Faculty of Automotive Engineering in Turin, Italy, but deserves a wider audience as it presents a compendium of basics on Industrial Management, since it covers all major topics required. It treats all subjects from product development and “make or buy”-decision strategies to the manufacturing systems setting and management through analysis of the main resources needed in production and finally exploring the supply chain management and the procurement techniques. The very last chapter recapitulates the previous ones by analysing key management indicators to pursue the value creation that is the real purpose of every industrial enterprise. As an appendix, a specific chapter is dedicated to the basics of production management where all main relevant definitions, techniques and criteria are treated, including some numerical examples, in order to provide an adequate foundation for understanding the other chapters. Book Progress in Intercalation Research

Download or read book Progress in Intercalation Research written by H.W. de Jong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If a book needs a third edition, because the previous ones are sold out, one may well question whether an introduction is necessary. However, the Structure of European Industry was meant to be a flexible book, keeping it in tune with actual developments in the European Community. Some explanation is therefore required. Two new chapters on the services industry have been included, to recognize the growing importance of what is fundamentally a bundle of industries. It is also increasingly acknowledged, that the motorcar industry, for its efficiency and innovativeness, is very much dependent on the numerous suppliers, large and small, of the component parts industry. A chapter, reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses of the European car supplying industries is therefore most welcome. Finally, European competition policy, now fitted out with the Merger Control Regulation is moving more and more towards the centre of stage and the final chapter presents a survey of the ~ims and achievements of this type of policy, up till now steadfastly developed by the EC Commission. For the rest, the chapters which were already in the previous edition, have been updated and have partly been rewritten by the authors concerned. The editor is most grateful to old and new contributors for their efforts to jointly produce a book which, after 12 years, is still unique in providing a European, instead of a national focus on industries and markets.
