Book The SIGNAL Part Four Rebecca

Download or read book The SIGNAL Part Four Rebecca written by Joe KING and published by Andrew M Molloy. This book was released on with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ava, Rebecca and the Major have returned from their adventure to Planet X, but Ava has miscalculated how the Earth should have been when they return. Climate change has been ravaging the planet and worse. The human population has declined to such an extent that they no longer can be trusted. Austerity has taken hold and the world's resources have become scarce. Anarchy now rules the land, and a lawless society reins over every town and city. John and Lacey have been spared much of the changes, but when a planned weekend for their sons, Joshua, and Thomas to visit has not materialised, they too must decide. Should they stay as their smallholding shrivels into a dust bowl as the climate has become so erratic with times of severe drought and temperatures reaching such highs and lows, no plant can survive. Or should they now leave to find their sons and head north for a better place to try to rebuild what they have lost? As her life unfolds, Rebecca realises something is wrong, very wrong. Coming back to Earth now seems like a bad idea and with everything going bad, but her revelations come in the form of a dog named Elsa, and then the true nightmare she is now in begins. Will Ava be able to correct the Nexus point in time that they have unknowingly crossed and changed the future? Or is the entire planet destined to be destroyed by something more powerful than even Ava could have calculated in her virtual world of computer coding and meticulous planning? Nothing is as it seems in this reality and now Ava must find a way back or forever be locked in a parallax timeline that may never be unlocked.

Book Climate Crisis You Your Garden

Download or read book Climate Crisis You Your Garden written by Andrew M Molloy and published by Andrew M Molloy. This book was released on 2022-12-26 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many issues and obstacles we face today. We know we all need to start somewhere and that somewhere could be right outside your front or back door. Our need to change is now, not tomorrow. There is not a single environment on the entire Earth that is not now contaminated by human activity. This will continue until our biosphere can take no more. Then, we all lose. We lose a diamond that may never exist again in any other solar system amongst billions. We are still abusing fossil fuels and the simple truth is, if we continue to pump greenhouse gases into our atmosphere, if we deforest anymore land, continue to build and extract anymore minerals from the Earth, we will cook this planet to the point no life can exist. Our very survival depends on our ability to change the way we live and that day is here, right now. So much wildlife is being lost across the globe and nearly all that loss can be attributed to human activity. Your local wildlife should be important to you and you should want to help because that unseen life those plants and creatures have all contributed to our lives in ways we are yet to fully appreciate. We can do so much more to help. We can grow many seasonal foods. We can do more than you think if the will is strong to do so. My passion for wildlife is stronger now than at any time in my life. The reason for that is because I know that the natural world needs me, and all of you, more than at any time in all of its evolutionary path. We are breaking down chains of life that can recover if we act now. We can reverse climate change but we all do need to act and not for no other reason that because you, like me, you care about our planet. If this book gives you anything, I hope it gives you a new perspective on how your garden is just as important as saving our oceans, our forests and our kaleidoscope of magical plants and creatures we are custodians of. If enough of us care, I know the future can be brighter for all, and not just the few! I have included some fun facts in this book and a month-by-month gardening guide I have compiled over three decades of gardening. There are fun ways to reuse materials to save them from landfill. Projects that are easily achieved to save money or to simply grow more of your own food to save a few bucks/pounds. In truth, your garden can be anything you want it to be. All the projects in this book are from my own endeavours in my garden to create a place for me, the food I like to grow for and the local wildlife.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Journalist Rebecca Traister’s New York Times bestselling exploration of the transformative power of female anger and its ability to transcend into a political movement is “a hopeful, maddening compendium of righteous feminine anger, and the good it can do when wielded efficiently—and collectively” (Vanity Fair). Long before Pantsuit Nation, before the Women’s March, and before the #MeToo movement, women’s anger was not only politically catalytic—but politically problematic. The story of female fury and its cultural significance demonstrates its crucial role in women’s slow rise to political power in America, as well as the ways that anger is received when it comes from women as opposed to when it comes from men. “Urgent, enlightened…realistic and compelling…Traister eloquently highlights the challenge of blaming not just forces and systems, but individuals” (The Washington Post). In Good and Mad, Traister tracks the history of female anger as political fuel—from suffragettes marching on the White House to office workers vacating their buildings after Clarence Thomas was confirmed to the Supreme Court. Traister explores women’s anger at both men and other women; anger between ideological allies and foes; the varied ways anger is received based on who’s expressing it; and the way women’s collective fury has become transformative political fuel. She deconstructs society’s (and the media’s) condemnation of female emotion (especially rage) and the impact of their resulting repercussions. Highlighting a double standard perpetuated against women by all sexes, and its disastrous, stultifying effect, Good and Mad is “perfectly timed and inspiring” (People, Book of the Week). This “admirably rousing narrative” (The Atlantic) offers a glimpse into the galvanizing force of women’s collective anger, which, when harnessed, can change history.

Book excerpt: "Extraordinary"--THE NEW YORKER In the formally innovative tradition of Grief Is the Thing with Feathers and Ducks, Newburyport comes a dazzlingly original, shot-in-the-arm of a debut that reveals a young woman's every thought over the course of one deceptively ordinary day. She wakes up, goes to work. Watches the clock and checks her phone. But underneath this monotony there's something else going on: something under her skin. Relayed in interweaving columns that chart the feedback loop of memory, the senses, and modern distractions with wit and precision, our narrator becomes increasingly anxious as the day moves on: Is she overusing the heart emoji? Isn't drinking eight glasses of water a day supposed to fix everything? Why is the etiquette of the women's bathroom so fraught? How does she define rape? And why can't she stop scratching? Fiercely moving and slyly profound, little scratch is a defiantly playful look at how our minds function in--and survive--the darkest moments.

Download or read book Strange Animals written by Chad Kultgen and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thought-provoking and darkly witty novel about freedom, motherhood, greed, and religion—a surprising new direction from the controversial author of Men, Women & Children and The Average American Male. Chad Kultgen has established himself as one of the most honest and candid chroniclers of human relationships working today. Now, in an eye-opening departure, he turns his gaze on the collision between religious values and human freedoms in American society. She found herself thinking how strange it was that although we are all animals with roughly the same mental capacity—and roughly the same access to information, both general and specific—we can come to such radically different conclusions about the nature of reality. She wondered if it would always be like this, or if at some point in the future a general knowledge base would be accepted by the whole of humanity on which every individual would base their view of existence. She hoped this would be the case and wished she could live to see it. Karen Halloway is a philosophy PhD candidate, struggling to find a dissertation topic strong enough to make a mark on the world. When she discovers that she’s pregnant, she finds herself at a crossroads: she has always known that she doesn’t want to be a mother, and feels her only choice is to have an abortion, though she knows that both her boyfriend and her highly religious best friend will object. Yet on the way to the clinic, Karen has the epiphany she’s been looking for—a way to turn her unexpected situation to her advantage. Fiendishly suspenseful, intellectually provocative, Strange Animals is a surprising novel about freedom, choice, and desperate measures.

Book A Field Guide to Getting Lost

Download or read book A Field Guide to Getting Lost written by Rebecca Solnit and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2006-06-27 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “An intriguing amalgam of personal memoir, philosophical speculation, natural lore, cultural history, and art criticism.” —Los Angeles Times From the award-winning author of Orwell's Roses, a stimulating exploration of wandering, being lost, and the uses of the unknown Written as a series of autobiographical essays, A Field Guide to Getting Lost draws on emblematic moments and relationships in Rebecca Solnit's life to explore issues of uncertainty, trust, loss, memory, desire, and place. Solnit is interested in the stories we use to navigate our way through the world, and the places we traverse, from wilderness to cities, in finding ourselves, or losing ourselves. While deeply personal, her own stories link up to larger stories, from captivity narratives of early Americans to the use of the color blue in Renaissance painting, not to mention encounters with tortoises, monks, punk rockers, mountains, deserts, and the movie Vertigo. The result is a distinctive, stimulating voyage of discovery.
