Book The Seven Sages

Download or read book The Seven Sages written by Patricia Anne Dye and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many world legends suggest that at any given time, seven sages walk the Earth, tasked with the responsibility to anchor wisdom on behalf of humanity. Each one stands as the personification of a different rung of human consciousness. Together, they represent humanity's innate ability to save itself-or doom itself. - Earthwhisperer knows the secrets of the Earth, its pleasures, and its pains. - Lila understands the nature and workings of sacred pleasure. - Solomon has learned how to wield both moral and ethical power. - Philomel has captured the art of immaculate loving and heartfelt joy. - Dattatreya lives out his version of crazy wisdom with his innovative family. - Marianina is fey, with a vast and accurate perspective on the human soul and its cosmic context. - Horus is a human sun, the indicator of human destiny, well above normal human consciousness. At this time, the sages have the profound challenge to help humanity reclaim balance, compassion, and hope-when these qualities seem lost forever. Through a whirling cascade of shifts in perception, can the sages inspire each person to embrace his or her unique brand of wisdom in time?

Book Political Thought

Download or read book Political Thought written by Michael Rosen and published by Oxford Readers. This book was released on 1999 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human beings live together in societies which, by their very nature, give rise to institutions governing the behavior and freedom of individuals. This raises important questions about how these institutions ought to function, and the extent to which actual systems of government succeed or fail in meeting these ideals. This Oxford Reader contains 140 key writings on political thought, covering issues about human nature and its relation to society, the extent to which the powers of the State are justified, the tension between liberty and rights, and the way resources should be distributed. Topics such as international relations, minority rights, democracy, socialism, and conservatism are also discussed by contributors ranging from Plato and Aristotle to Foucault, Isaiah Berlin, and Martin Luther King.

Book Traditions of the Seven R is

Download or read book Traditions of the Seven R is written by John E. Mitchiner and published by Motilal Banarsidass Publ.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ascetics and mystics have played a prominent role in the development of nearly all religious traditions. The particular importance of such figures within Hinduism is especially evident in the traditions recounted of the Seven Rsis--the seven archetypal sages or seers who are depicted as being more important and powerful than even the gods themselves: indeed, through their asceticism the Rsis become the progenitors of the gods, as also of men, demons and all other orders of creation. Traditions of the Seven Rsis is the first systematic study of these traditions, and consists of two separate but closely related parts: the first part is a text-historical examination of how and when different traditions were formulated, while the second part explores the various activities and ideas associated with the Seven Rsis. Basing his study on the Sanskrit sources, but making use also of Tamil, tribal and non-Indian sources, Dr. Mitchiner sets out the main traditions associated with the Seven Rsis and traces the underlying themes in those traditiions--particularly that of the creative role of these ascetic figures. The work encompasses a wealth of original literary material, much of it previously untranslated, and is both a sourcebook of the Rsi traditions and a study of the historical development, symbolic meaning and interconnectedness of those traditions, illustrating above all the dynamically creative role of the ascetic and mystic within Hinduism.
