Book The Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church

Download or read book The Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church written by Archibald L.H.M. van Wieringen and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2022-08 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The strong relationship between the Bible and the sacraments of the Catholic Church is generally accepted in theology. This monograph approaches this relationship from a synchronic perspective. This fresh perspective opens up new windows providing insight into similarities found in the various rites, in and outside the Catholic Church. For example, the basic biblical pattern of the celebration of the Eucharist / Last Supper appears to be standard. It also poses critical questions regarding sacramental theology in general, especially to the problematic equation of the proper name Jesus and the title Christ.

Book The Sacraments We Celebrate

Download or read book The Sacraments We Celebrate written by Peter J. Vaghi and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Sacraments We Celebrate: A Catholic Guide to the Seven Mysteries of Faith, the second book in the Pillars of Faith series, Msgr. Peter J. Vaghi introduces the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. Drawing from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults, and the writings of Benedict XVI and John Paul II, Msgr. Vaghi's easy-to-use resource considers each of the sacraments from a personal, communal, and social perspective. The chapters explore the sacraments as a whole and examine the scriptural foundation, the history, and the symbolism of each. At a time when Mass attendance, Confession, and the celebration of Catholic weddings are all declining, the clarity and accessibility of Msgr. Peter Vaghi's writing on the meaning of these celebrations, complemented by questions for reflection and prayer, makes The Sacraments We Celebrate a vital resource for any Catholic seeking to understand these central actions of the faith.

Download or read book The Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church written by Romanus Cessario and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2023-06-20 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are seven sacraments administered in the Catholic Church. What are they, and what do they do? Why do human beings require sacramentalized, visible realities to seal their confession of faith in Jesus Christ? Why does the Catholic Church administer the sacraments in the way that it does? Leading Catholic theologian Romanus Cessario, OP, offers an in-depth explanation of the seven sacraments celebrated in the Catholic Church. He addresses the rationale for the sacraments and provides detailed exposition of each one, highlighting the importance of the Catholic tradition--and of Thomas Aquinas, in particular--for contemporary reflection on the sacraments. This book examines why participation in the sacramental life of the Church is required for the believing Christian and helps readers understand the role the sacraments play in the sanctification of the world.

Book The Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church

Download or read book The Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church written by Henry Formby and published by . This book was released on 2020-04-11 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: St. Peter directs the faithful, that they should employ all care, to minister in their faith, virtue, and in their virtue Knowledge. Ignorance of the marvellous Work of God in the Redemption of Man, cannot be otherwise than a scandal and a disgrace, in one who expects to benefit by this Redemption. St. Paul writes, " Brethren, I would not that you should be ignorant" and in another place, "2" would have you to be wise in good, and simple in evil." The present little book upon the Seven Sacraments of the Church is not by any means meant as a book of piety alone. It is rather intended as a book of general popular knowledge. It has been written to make it interesting to a Christian, desiring to open his mind upon questions connected with the reasonableness and benefits of his faith. For it must be very unwise to leave knowledge to the mercy of chance and to wish to sustain religion in the mind by piety alone. The Spirit of Knowledge is one of the Seven Gifts of the Holy Ghost, which are given for the protection of Christian Life. Nothing, therefore, can well exceed the folly of the Christian, who imagines any part of the armour, which Divine Wisdom offers to him for his defence, to have become a superfluous and useless thing. The Apostle says, " Put on the whole armour of God."
