Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vocabulary of Lies is designed to serve as a guide with explanation and demonstrations concerning the deception of lies. The short stories will incite learning and laughing. Identify and evaluate the case studies; comparison opens your door of understanding. And generate your own ideas from the personal scenarios given in the book. I know your objective in life is to live happily as well as successfully. Once you are introduced or reacquainted with the many lies you encounter, you should be able to recognize, redirect, and correct what you need to create or maintain happiness and success in your life. Lies are an Academy-award production moment for so many people. They pride themselves on being able to convince and persuade others to adopt their point of view, do what they want them to do, or simply believe them. You must be especially careful and critical when you observe others. It is evident that we must look out for number 1. If you do not take the time to practice good listening and body-language reading skills, just to name a few, you may become lost in a lie. You will develop a keen sense of awareness, and it will become easier for you to choose between the lie, the truth, and what you choose to believe. We need one another; therefore, lets not build our trust on a lie.

Book A is for Asylum Seeker Words for People on the Move A de asilo palabras para personas en movimiento

Download or read book A is for Asylum Seeker Words for People on the Move A de asilo palabras para personas en movimiento written by Rachel Ida Buff and published by Fordham University Press. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A clear and concise A-to-Z of keywords that echo our current human rights crisis As millions are forced to leave their nations of origin as a result of political, economic, and environmental peril, rising racism and xenophobia have led to increasingly harsh policies. A mass-mediated political circus obscures both histories of migration and longstanding definitions of words for people on the move, fomenting widespread linguistic confusion. Under this circus tent, there is no regard for history, legal advocacy, or jurisprudence. Yet in a world where the differences between “undocumented migrant” and “asylum seeker” can mean life or death, words have weighty consequences. A timely antidote to this circus, A is for Asylum Seeker reframes key words that describe people on the move. Written to correct the de-meaning of terms by rhetoric and policies based on dehumanization and profitable incarceration, this glossary provides an intersectional and historically grounded consideration of the words deployed in enflamed debate. Skipping some letters of the alphabet while repeating others, thirty terms cover everything from Asylum-seeker to Zero Tolerance Policy. Each entry begins with a contemporary or historical story for illustration and then proceeds to discuss the language politics of the word. The book balances terms affected by current political debates—such as “migrant,” “refugee,” and “illegal alien”—and terms that offer historical context to these controversies, such as “fugitive,” “unhoused,” and “vagrant.” Rendered in both English and Spanish, this book offers a unique perspective on the journeys, histories, challenges, and aspirations of people on the move. Enhancing the book’s utility as an educational and organizing resource, the author provides a list of works for further reading as well as a directory of immigration-advocacy organizations throughout the United States.

Book Saints Cure seekers and Miraculous Healing in Twelfth century England

Download or read book Saints Cure seekers and Miraculous Healing in Twelfth century England written by Ruth J. Salter and published by Boydell & Brewer. This book was released on 2021 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cults of the saints were central to the medieval Church. These holy men and women acted as patrons and protectors to the religious communities who housed their relics and to the devotees who requested their assistance in petitioning God for a miracle. Among the collections of posthumous miracle stories, miracula, accounts of holy healing feature prominently and depict cure-seekers successfully securing their desired remedy for a range of ailments and afflictions. What can these miracle accounts tell us of the cure-seekers' experiences of their journey from ill health to recovery, and how was healthcare presented in these sources? This book undertakes an in-depth study of the miraculous cure-seeking process through the lens of Latin miracle accounts produced in twelfth-century England, a time both when saints' cults particularly flourished and there was an increasing transmission and dissemination of classical and Arabic medical works. Focused on shorter miracula with a predominantly localised focus, and thus on a select group of cure-seekers, it brings together studies of healthcare and pilgrimage to look at an alternative to medical intervention and the practicalities and processes of securing saintly assistance.

Book The Reception of Asylum Seekers under International Law

Download or read book The Reception of Asylum Seekers under International Law written by Lieneke Slingenberg and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly, European states are using policy on the reception of asylum seekers as an instrument of immigration control, eg by deterring the lodging of asylum applications, preventing integration into their societies and exercising a large degree of control over asylum seekers in order to facilitate expulsion. The European Union is currently engaged in a process of developing minimum conditions for the reception of asylum seekers, as part of a Common European Asylum System. This book critically examines the outcomes of the negotiation process on these minimum standards – Directive 2003/9/EC and Directive 2013/33/EU – in relation to international refugee law, international social security law and international human rights law. It presents a comprehensive analysis of state obligations that stem from these different fields of law with regard to asylum seekers' access to the labour market and social security benefits and compares them to the minimum standards developed in the European Union. To this end, it offers an in-depth study into the notion of non-discrimination on the basis of nationality in the field of social security and a detailed analysis of recent developments in the case law of the European Court on Human Rights on positive obligations in the socioeconomic sphere. It takes into account both the special characteristics of international legal obligations for states in the socioeconomic sphere and the legal consequences of the tentative legal status of asylum seekers. In addition, this book particularly examines how the instrumental use of social policy relates to international law.

Book Seekers of the Face

  • ISBN : 1503628582

Download or read book Seekers of the Face written by Melila Hellner-Eshed and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-14 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A magisterial, modern reading of the deepest mysteries in the Kabbalistic tradition. Seekers of the Face opens the profound treasure house at the heart of Judaism's most important mystical work: the Idra Rabba (Great Gathering) of the Zohar. This is the story of the Great Assembly of mystics called to order by the master teacher and hero of the Zohar, Rabbi Shim'on bar Yochai, to align the divine faces and to heal Jewish religion. The Idra Rabba demands a radical expansion of the religious worldview, as it reveals God's faces and bodies in daring, anthropomorphic language. For the first time, Melila Hellner-Eshed makes this challenging, esoteric masterpiece meaningful for everyday readers. Hellner-Eshed expertly unpacks the Idra Rabba's rich grounding in tradition, its probing of hidden layers of consciousness and the psyche, and its striking, sacred images of the divine face. Leading readers of the Zohar on a transformative adventure in mystical experience, Seekers of the Face allows us to hear anew the Idra Rabba's bold call to heal and align the living faces of God.
