But the biggest money comes from the biggest events. The more delta, the more alpha. In that spirit, The Secret of Directional Investing offers a new way of thinking about investing, steeped in culture and history. Focusing on megatrends, this book points out ways to profit from an understanding of two kinds of trends: those that can be spotted, and those that can be shaped. There’s money in both. Download or read book Time is Money written by Kerry W. Given, Ph.D. and published by First Edition Design Pub.. This book was released on 2015-02-18 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new book, Time Is Money, comes from Kerry Given, the author of No Hype Options Trading, and he discusses the concept of non-directional trading. If you have some experience with options trading, you have probably heard the term, delta neutral trading. This is one of the buzzword phrases that has been used in marketing options trading education, trading alert services, and describing the strategies of hedge funds. Delta neutral does sound exotic – is this the trading secret I have been searching for? But we will see clearly in this book that there is no "secret" to options trading. Non-directional trading is a lesser known term and may be considered a subset of delta neutral trading. This book does an excellent job of distinguishing delta neutral trading from non-directional trading. These are not synonyms. The trader may use a delta neutral strategy because he is predicting a sideways price pattern or price movement within a modest sized channel. The delta neutral trade is just one choice among several options strategies. If the trader is bullish, he selects a bullish trade; if he is bearish, he selects a bearish trade. And if his prediction is for a sideways price movement, he selects a delta neutral trade. This trader is using a delta neutral trading strategy as a directional trade; it is based on the trader's prediction for the future price movement of the underlying stock or market index. The directional trader has a specific interest with particular knowledge about an individual stock or index and a prediction for its future value. Dr. Given distinguishes non-directional trading from delta neutral trading in one critically important way. If one is trading non-directionally, he develops a series of rules for entry, exit and adjustment of a delta neutral trading strategy and then enters and manages the position dictated by those rules month after month. He has made no prediction of the future; he just manages the position each day based on the market's price move that day. The trader is no longer predicting the market's next move tomorrow; the trader is reacting to what the market gives him today. The non-directional trader tries his best not to predict where the market is going tomorrow. Instead, he focuses on where the market is today and the actions his rules dictate. He follows the rules. This may seem like a fine distinction in semantics, but give Time Is Money a try. Focus on what the market is doing today and what your rules dictate. Throw away your crystal ball. Keywords: Options, Trading, Strategies, Delta, Neutral, Market, Non-Directional

Book Efficiently Inefficient

Download or read book Efficiently Inefficient written by Lasse Heje Pedersen and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Efficiently Inefficient describes the key trading strategies used by hedge funds and demystifies the secret world of active investing. Leading financial economist Lasse Heje Pedersen combines the latest research with real-world examples and interviews with top hedge fund managers to show how certain trading strategies make money--and why they sometimes don't. Pedersen views markets as neither perfectly efficient nor completely inefficient. Rather, they are inefficient enough that money managers can be compensated for their costs through the profits of their trading strategies and efficient enough that the profits after costs do not encourage additional active investing. Understanding how to trade in this efficiently inefficient market provides a new, engaging way to learn finance. Pedersen analyzes how the market price of stocks and bonds can differ from the model price, leading to new perspectives on the relationship between trading results and finance theory. He explores several different areas in depth--fundamental tools for investment management, equity strategies, macro strategies, and arbitrage strategies--and he looks at such diverse topics as portfolio choice, risk management, equity valuation, and yield curve logic. The book's strategies are illuminated further by interviews with leading hedge fund managers: Lee Ainslie, Cliff Asness, Jim Chanos, Ken Griffin, David Harding, John Paulson, Myron Scholes, and George Soros.

Book Big Trends In Trading

Download or read book Big Trends In Trading written by Price Headley and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2002-03-26 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arms traders and sophisticated individual investors with the tools they need to play the markets successfully Many traders believe that they must perform at least one trade every day, no matter what. However, as expert Price Headley clearly demonstrates in this groundbreaking book, not only is that assumption false, it can also be dangerous. He shows why focusing too narrowly on the daily ebb and flow of the markets minimizes a trader's chances for the big returns. He explains why maximum results are achieved by identifying the big market trends and riding them for all their worth. Headley explores the major market indicators-including the popular CBOE Volatility Index, Nasdaq 100, Rydex Mutual Fund Flows, and Equity Put/Call Ratio-and shows readers how to use them to identify the stocks that are about to take off. Emphasizing the aggressive use of options, he also empowers investors with stock selection techniques and options strategies that work in virtually every type of market.

Download or read book Pit Trader s Diary written by David A. Levine and published by . This book was released on 2015-01-16 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the ways that professional trading firms make consistent profits, regardless of the market's direction, is through Options trading. By structuring and timing Options trades with non-directional strategies, professional traders consistently make money in up and down markets. One of the most popular non-directional Options trading techniques utilized by the savvy Wall Street trading firms are Condor Options spreads. The concept of Condor spreads is similar to how an insurance company issues an insurance policy. Insurance companies know statistically the probability of a loss in the near future, and they charge a premium that allows them to make a profit for the risk during that time period. The odds are always in the favor of the insurance company. A Condor spread is based on the same strategy. You use available statistics to determine the probability of stock or index price movements in the near future, and you collect premiums by making trades on Options positions that have a very low probability of loss during that time period. You take positions where the odds are deeply in your favor. And of course, you always have a backup plan if things go wrong. An Iron Condor - the secret trading technique I'll share with you in this book - allows you to double your return without doubling your risk. How popular is this strategy with Wall Street elites? Warren Buffet makes BILLIONS of dollars most years using this Options strategy. This is the primary Options strategy Berkshire Hathaway utilizes; just check their annual 10-K filings which are available for free, and search for "equity index put Option contracts." You are holding the insider's secrets This book will teach you the secret Options trading strategy that Wall Street wizards use every day to put the odds in their favor. I will explain this strategy in simple straightforward terms, so you don't need a finance degree to understand it. The step-by-step instructions in this book cover everything you need to trade Options successfully, including: which market conditions to monitor before entering into a trade, when to start, the rules for exiting a position early, and how to do it without spending your every waking hour in front of a computer. This book is carefully focused on essential information, so you can jump forward into trading as quickly as possible. By the end, you'll understand how to trade Iron Condors. This book can then serve as a handy reference, with all the key factors and tips you'll need to trade wisely.

Book Volatility Trading

Download or read book Volatility Trading written by Euan Sinclair and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-01-11 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Volatility Trading, Sinclair offers you a quantitative model for measuring volatility in order to gain an edge in your everyday option trading endeavors. With an accessible, straightforward approach. He guides traders through the basics of option pricing, volatility measurement, hedging, money management, and trade evaluation. In addition, Sinclair explains the often-overlooked psychological aspects of trading, revealing both how behavioral psychology can create market conditions traders can take advantage of-and how it can lead them astray. Psychological biases, he asserts, are probably the drivers behind most sources of edge available to a volatility trader. Your goal, Sinclair explains, must be clearly defined and easily expressed-if you cannot explain it in one sentence, you probably aren't completely clear about what it is. The same applies to your statistical edge. If you do not know exactly what your edge is, you shouldn't trade. He shows how, in addition to the numerical evaluation of a potential trade, you should be able to identify and evaluate the reason why implied volatility is priced where it is, that is, why an edge exists. This means it is also necessary to be on top of recent news stories, sector trends, and behavioral psychology. Finally, Sinclair underscores why trades need to be sized correctly, which means that each trade is evaluated according to its projected return and risk in the overall context of your goals. As the author concludes, while we also need to pay attention to seemingly mundane things like having good execution software, a comfortable office, and getting enough sleep, it is knowledge that is the ultimate source of edge. So, all else being equal, the trader with the greater knowledge will be the more successful. This book, and its companion CD-ROM, will provide that knowledge. The CD-ROM includes spreadsheets designed to help you forecast volatility and evaluate trades together with simulation engines.
