Rebecca: I had started this day as super confident, larger than life Becky Morris: fearless, fun and in charge of her exciting life. And now I was ending it with torn clothes, a shredded backpack, wolves howling in the distance, and a thought I had valiantly resisted for the last five years: despite what had happened, I wanted Hugo. I wanted him badly. Now more than ever. Now, my life depended on it... Hugo: I'm the one and only, Hugo Turner: ex-Navy SEAL, free man and grand master in the seductive arts. I used to think I was in control, but... do you ever get the feeling that life is just messing with you sometimes? That you're being moved around by something you can't see or understand, but it's working behind the scenes anyway? I couldn't explain it, but I just knew I had to go and find her. Right now. Maybe it was something supernatural. Maybe it was fate, I don't know. But my instincts told me that she needed me now, and I always trust my instincts. I wasn't about to let her down again... - - - - - - What you can expect from this book:- Heat level: kindle-melting.- No cheating. - No cliffhangers. - HEA.

Download or read book The Fate of American Poetry written by Jonathan Holden and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2008-07-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Readers of Holden's splendid new book will be rewarded by his summary of the latest battle: neo-formalists versus post-(post?)-modernists versus creative writing programs versus whatever. The decline of modernism is also examined. Holden rightly chastises those who decry the institutionalization of poetry; details the current state of lyric, narrative, and political poetry; and gives sensitive, intelligent readings of works by new and established poets. An important book by a solid poet and critic. Highly recommended. --Vincent D. Balitas.

Book Pistis Sophia The Message of Resurrected Jesus

Download or read book Pistis Sophia The Message of Resurrected Jesus written by Anonymous and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-12-21 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pistis Sophia is a Gnostic text written between the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. The existing manuscript, relates one Gnostic group's teachings of the transfigured (resurrected) Jesus to the assembled disciples, including his mother Mary, Mary Magdalene, and Martha. In this text, the risen Jesus had spent eleven years speaking with his disciples, teaching them only the lower mysteries. After eleven years, he receives his true garment and is able to reveal the higher mysteries revered by this group. Cosmology is a primary focus of the Pistis Sophia – learning the structure of the universe and how to traverse it is considered key in these texts, and the cosmology is one of the most complex from any Gnostic text remaining today. in Pistis Sophia the Sophia, as major female divinity, originates and dwells outside of the divine realm. Her fall and redemption parallel that found in versions of the Sophia myth such as that in the Apocryphon of John, but the actions all take place in the material aeons, and she can only be restored to her place in the thirteenth aeon, outside the Kingdom of Light. The Pistis Sopha is a startling blend of early Christianity and Hellenic Paganism, with other elements such as reincarnation, Astrology, Mystery religion and Hermetic magic.

Book Death and the Body in the Eighteenth Century Novel

Download or read book Death and the Body in the Eighteenth Century Novel written by Jolene Zigarovich and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2023-02-28 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Death and the Body in the Eighteenth-Century Novel demonstrates that archives continually speak to the period's rising funeral and mourning culture, as well as the increasing commodification of death and mourning typically associated with nineteenth-century practices. Drawing on a variety of historical discourses--such as wills, undertaking histories, medical treatises and textbooks, anatomical studies, philosophical treatises, and religious tracts and sermons--the book contributes to a fuller understanding of the history of death in the Enlightenment and its narrative transformation. Death and the Body in the Eighteenth-Century Novel not only offers new insights about the effect of a growing secularization and commodification of death on the culture and its productions, but also fills critical gaps in the history of death, using narrative as a distinct literary marker. As anatomists dissected, undertakers preserved, jewelers encased, and artists figured the corpse, so too the novelist portrayed bodily artifacts. Why are these morbid forms of materiality entombed in the novel? Jolene Zigarovich addresses this complex question by claiming that the body itself--its parts, or its preserved representation--functioned as secular memento, suggesting that preserved remains became symbols of individuality and subjectivity. To support the conception that in this period notions of self and knowing center upon theories of the tactile and material, the chapters are organized around sensory conceptions and bodily materials such as touch, preserved flesh, bowel, heart, wax, hair, and bone. Including numerous visual examples, the book also argues that the relic represents the slippage between corpse and treasure, sentimentality and materialism, and corporeal fetish and aesthetic accessory. Zigarovich's analysis compels us to reassess the eighteenth-century response to and representation of the dead and dead-like body, and its material purpose and use in fiction. In a broader framework, Death and the Body in the Eighteenth-Century Novel also narrates a history of the novel that speaks to the cultural formation of modern individualism.
