THE OBJECT of this work is to furnish persons who make an artistic or professional use of the vocal organs, with a. concise account of those relations of the voice to physical and medical science which are only cursorily alluded to, or passed over altogether, in treatises on elocution and singing. It is an abridgment of my 'Treatise on Vocal Physiology and Hygiene' for the use of those who do not require to study the subject in all its technical and theoretical bearings. The second edition has been carefully revised. I have now been able to satisfy myself experimentally that the physiological action of the larynx is identical in both sexes, and that- the vocal registers have the same The details of my observations, which I believe will finally settle this important and vexed question, will shortly be published in one of the medical or scientific journals.
