Book The Data TeamTM Procedure A Systematic Approach to School Improvement

Download or read book The Data TeamTM Procedure A Systematic Approach to School Improvement written by Kim Schildkamp and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the Data Team Procedure: a method for data-based decision making that can help schools to improve their quality. It involves the use of teams consisting of 4-6 teachers, 1-2 school leaders and a data expert. The members of the team collaboratively learn how to use data to solve an educational problem within the school, adopting a systematic approach. The data team procedure is an iterative and cyclic procedure consisting of eight steps. The data team members are trained in the data team procedure by a coach. The coach visits the data team’s school regularly for a meeting and facilitates working according to the systematic procedure. Teams participate in data analysis workshops for more specific support. Divided into three parts, the book first describes the importance of data use and the data team procedure. Next, it describes two cases. The first case concerns a data team working on a school level problem: Reducing grade repetition. The second case concerns a data team working on a classroom level problem: low student achievement in English language. The last part of the book explains what it means to implement the data team procedure in the school, the conditions needed for implementing the data team procedure, and the factors that may hinder or support the use of data in data teams.

Book Creating Cyber Libraries

Download or read book Creating Cyber Libraries written by Kathleen W. Craver and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2002-05-30 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As prices of traditional library materials increase, and space to house them shrinks, savvy school library media specialists are creating cyber libraries, or school libraries on the Internet. These libraries offer students and their parents 24-hour access and are invaluable for providing up-to-date information in a way traditional materials cannot. This guide outlines the steps library media specialists can take to create a cyber library, provide content and policies for use, and maintain it for maximum efficiency. Craver justifies the need for cyber libraries in the 21st century, and how they can help librarians to meet the standards in Information Power (1998). She explains the different types of cyber libraries available, along with their advantages and disadvantages. She discusses how to construct them using portals or by acquiring fee-based cyber libraries, and what policies should be in place to protect both the school and its students. Also included are instructions for establishing remote access to subscription databases, creating cyber reading rooms, and providing instructional services to student users. Once a cyber library is created, it must be maintained and evaluated to keep it useful and current, and this book provides guidelines to do so. Finally, there is a chapter on promoting the cyber library, so the school community is aware of its features and participates in its growth process. No school library should be without this volume!

Book Student Discipline Strategies

Download or read book Student Discipline Strategies written by Oliver C. Moles and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1990-08-27 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost a third of public school teachers have considered leaving teaching because of student misbehavior. When asked what were the greatest problems facing their local schools, respondents to Gallup polls have cited discipline first almost every year back to the early 1970s. Discipline problems may range from crimes in schools, such as robbery and drug dealing committed by students or intruders, to lack of respectful behavior toward teachers and classmates, and the spectrum from crimes to disrespect is discussed in the chapters of this ground-breaking volume. This collection by leading scholars should be useful to social scientists, educational researchers, educators, and school administrators—all those who need to understand how specific and manipulable features of schools, classrooms, and their surrounding environments affect the course of student behavior and prospects for sustained improvement in the discipline climate in schools. The information in these chapters provides many practical ideas, as well as some cautions, for trying new approaches to make schools more orderly learning environments for all students.
