Download or read book The Same Smile written by Susan Mello Souza and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compelling, heartwarming story of love lost and found will make you smile, it will also make you cry, but mostly, it will make you understand. Told, as never before, in the blended voices of both birth mother, Susan and her "found" daughter, Joanne, it promises to pull you in from the "get-go." Experience Susan's extraordinary thirty-year journey from relinquishment to search, culminating with the emotionally charged rollercoaster rid of reunion. "Susan is sixteen, unmarried and pregnant and about to make a choice no woman should ever be forced to make - surrender the precious child she is carrying to adoption. A promise is made, and then, years later, the promise is broken when, yet again, tragedy strikes in her life." This is her true story... Rating -- 5 Stars. Pros -- Very well-written - Flowing story line - A "feel-good" book. Cons -- None. "This wonderfully human story of a 60's relinquishment and a family reunited is told in the blended voices of mother and (found) daughter. Instead of a tragic account of the loss of a child to adoption, compounded by the death of a subsequent child to leukemia, this book is a triumph of strength. The losses are not diminished, the emotional scars are still there, but author Souza's story is forward-looking and encouraging. The added voice of her (found) daughter adds another dimension, with her (Joanne's) honest expression of her initial discomfort, and her growing closeness with her new-found family. The "happily-ever-after" ending is well-deserved, paid for in tears and anguish. "The Same Smile" is an apt title, as seen in the photographs of Souza with her three daughters, but after reading the book, I think the title "The Same Heart" would have been equally appropriate." Download or read book Smile written by Roddy Doyle and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of the Booker Prize winning Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha, a bold, haunting novel about the uncertainty of memory and how we contend with the past. "It's his bravest novel yet; it's also, by far, his best." -- npr.org “The closest thing he’s written to a psychological thriller."– The New York Times Book Review Just moved into a new apartment, alone for the first time in years, Victor Forde goes every evening to Donnelly’s for a pint, a slow one. One evening his drink is interrupted. A man in shorts and a pink shirt comes over and sits down. He seems to know Victor’s name and to remember him from secondary school. His name is Fitzpatrick. Victor dislikes him on sight, dislikes, too, the memories that Fitzpatrick stirs up of five years being taught by the Christian Brothers. He prompts other memories—of Rachel, his beautiful wife who became a celebrity, and of Victor’s own small claim to fame, as the man who would say the unsayable on the radio. But it’s the memories of school, and of one particular brother, that Victor cannot control and which eventually threaten to destroy his sanity. Smile has all the features for which Roddy Doyle has become famous: the razor-sharp dialogue, the humor, the superb evocation of adolescence, but this is a novel unlike any he has written before. When you finish the last page you will have been challenged to reevaluate everything you think you remember so clearly.
