Book The Interactive Effects of the Sulphite Ion PH and Dissolved Oxygen on the Flotation of Chalcopyrite and Galena from Black Mountain Ore

Download or read book The Interactive Effects of the Sulphite Ion PH and Dissolved Oxygen on the Flotation of Chalcopyrite and Galena from Black Mountain Ore written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These effects were investigated in batch flotation studies, and by the measurement of rest and pulp potentials. At low additions of sulphurous acid as the pH regulator, flotation rate increased with increasing concentrations of dissolved oxygen. The recovery of chalcopyrite dropped significantly below a pH value of about 6,5 at 25 ppm of dissolved oxygen, and below a pH value of about 6 at a dissolved-oxygen concentration of 8,2 ppm. The rest and pulp potentials measured indicated that dixanthogen is the dominant species formed on chalcopyrite surfaces during flotation with sodium ethyl xanthate. The results suggested that the same species might have formed on galena surfaces in the pulp after the ore had been milled in a ceramic mill under nitrogen. Increased additions of sulphurous, sulphuric, and hydrochloric acids increased the rest potentials, while the addition of sodium sulphite decreased these potentials.

Book Interactions Between Sulphide Minerals and Xanthates 1 The Formation of Monothiocarbonate at Galena and Pyrite Surfaces

Download or read book Interactions Between Sulphide Minerals and Xanthates 1 The Formation of Monothiocarbonate at Galena and Pyrite Surfaces written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rate of decomposition of potassium ethyl monothiocarbonate has been determined at pH values between 5 and 10, and its molar absorptivity at 221 nm determined to be 1.24x10000 mol/cm. A novel apparatus for use in the study of reactions between sulphide minerals, oxygen and thiol reagents has been developed, and applied to the reactions of potassium ethyl xanthate with galena and pyrite. It has been shown that both minerals react with ethyl xanthate in the presence of oxygen or oxidation products to form soluble as well as adsorbed xanthate derivatives. The soluble derivative has been identified to be ethyl monothiocarbonate. The adsorbed xanthate at a galena surface, unlike that at a pyrite surface, is gradually converted to a soluble monothiocarbonate under the action of dissolved oxygen. The effect of variables such as pH, the initial xanthate and oxygen concentrations, and the initial state of oxidation of the mineral on the formation of monothiocarbonate has been studied. It is tentatively proposed that an intermediate adsorbed mixed xanthate-hydroxide species is involved in the formation of monothiocarbonate at both galena and pyrite surfaces. The significance of the formation of monothiocarbonate to flotation practice is discussed briefly. The formation of monothiocarbonate represents a wastage of reagent, and could lead to a decrease in flotability of xanthated galena with time of exposure to aerated solutions. (AUAB).

Book The Formation of Monothiocarbonates During the Reaction Between Xanthates and Sulphide Minerals in Flotation Systems

Download or read book The Formation of Monothiocarbonates During the Reaction Between Xanthates and Sulphide Minerals in Flotation Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reactions between galena, pyrite, sphalerite, and chalcocite and a number of xanthate homologues have been studied. It has been shown that both galena and pyrite from a soluble product, the appropriate monothiocarbonate, as well as the characteristic adsorbed products. With galena and ethyl xanthate in the presence of excess oxygen, all the adsorbed xanthate returns to the solution in the form of monothiocarbonate, whereas ethyl xanthate adsorbed at a pyrite surface cannot be removed in this manner. In reactions between these two minerals and the higher xanthate homologues, the amount and rate of formation of soluble monothiocarbonate are much less than those observed with ethyl xanthate. It is suggested that the formation of monothiocarbonate takes place via mixed metal hydroxy-xanthate species adsorbed at the surface and not from adsorbed dixanthogen. Soluble monothiocarbonate is not formed during reactions between chalcocite and sphalerite and xanthate solutions. The former result is in harmony with the postulated mechanism, the latter apparently not. The adsorption of monothiocarbonate at the surfaces of the minerals, both in the presence and absence of xanthate is considered, and it is concluded that the adsorption of monothiocarbonates is much weaker than that of the corresponding xanthates.

Book Electrochemistry of Metal Chalcogenides

Download or read book Electrochemistry of Metal Chalcogenides written by Mirtat Bouroushian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-23 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author provides a unified account of the electrochemical material science of metal chalcogenide (MCh) compounds and alloys with regard to their synthesis, processing and applications. Starting with the chemical fundamentals of the chalcogens and their major compounds, the initial part of the book includes a systematic description of the MCh solids on the basis of the Periodic Table in terms of their structures and key properties. This is followed by a general discussion on the electrochemistry of chalcogen species, and the principles underlying the electrochemical formation of inorganic compounds/alloys. The core of the book offers an insight into available experimental results and inferences regarding the electrochemical preparation and microstructural control of conventional and novel MCh structures. It also aims to survey their photoelectrochemistry, both from a material-oriented point of view and as connected to specific processes such as photocatalysis and solar energy conversion. Finally, the book illustrates the relevance of MCh materials to various applications of electrochemical interest such as (electro)catalysis in fuel cells, energy storage with intercalation electrodes, and ion sensing.

Book excerpt: This book is an in-depth analysis of three of the most crucial years in twentieth-century Italian history, the years 1943-46. After more than two decades of a Fascist regime and a disastrous war experience during which Italy changed sides, these years saw the laying of the political and cultural foundations for what has since become known as Italy's First Republic. Drawing on texts from the literature, film, journalism, and political debate of the period, Antifascisms offers a thorough survey of the personalities and positions that informed the decisions taken in this crucial phase of modern Italian history.

Book History of Flotation

Download or read book History of Flotation written by A. J. Lynch and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Floatation was the process that transformed the non-ferrous mining industry and the industries and economies of the world. It was an improbable process; nobody could have imagined 100 years ago that floating high specific gravity particles on water would be the basis of one of the world's great technologies. This book tells the story of the early days of flotation and is as much about the engineers, managers and financiers who supported the experiments and built the plants as it is about the technology that was developed. Flotation practitioners will enjoy reading about the history of flotation machines, the ingenuity applied and the competitive tension between the manufacturers.
