Book The Role of Certification in Promoting Sustainable Golf Courses

Download or read book The Role of Certification in Promoting Sustainable Golf Courses written by Alex Morris and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With current sustainability goals, changing the trends of golf course design and management is an important issue. Golf courses are a good focus because they are important socially, economically, and environmentally. This paper investigates Audubon International golf course conservation certification's role in assisting golf courses ecological well-being; and how this influences sustainability trends. A research review shows Audubon International is up to date on resource conservation practices. Consumers are important in reinforcing the trend of courses perusing certification. Consumer data is still needed to indicate if environmentally friendly design is highly demanded. If so, these courses will not only better conserve resources, but also gain a competitive advantage over other golf facilities and become more economically viable. Golf courses are already municipal revenue and environmental assets, conservation certification can further help these facilities achieve sustainability. Included is a case study of two courses within the same municipality that show higher revenue at the certified course. This reflects some support from the Jefferson County Open Space Fund for the courses outstanding wildlife habitate, but also likely the consumer's enjoyment of the course. However, it remains unknown if this support is in response to the conservation certification specifically.

Book Sustainability on the Disc Golf Course

Download or read book Sustainability on the Disc Golf Course written by Stephen Hutzelman and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Disc golf courses are typically designed by players through a grass roots effort. This applied thesis argues that in order to prevent negative environmental impacts, these courses should be designed with the help of professionals in the field of landscape architecture or those with knowledge of sustainable landscape design. The underlying assumption of this applied thesis is that disc golf courses are being designed by well-intentioned laymen who probably have no training or certification in sustainable landscape design. This applied thesis explores the design of disc golf courses by distilling principles of sustainability that can and should be applied in the design of such facilities. As an applied thesis, this project then implements these principles in the design of nine disc golf holes for Linbrook Park in Franklin Park Borough, Pennsylvania." -- Abstract.

Book Exploring Sustainable Environmental Management Practices for Golf Courses in Semi arid Environments

Download or read book Exploring Sustainable Environmental Management Practices for Golf Courses in Semi arid Environments written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past several years NM government officials have been working to increase economic growth via tourism in NM.As a result several dozen golf courses have popped up around the state. Golf courses are conceived to be problematic as they consume large quantities of water and typically use lots of harmful pesticides to manage turfgrass. Water scarcity has already shown its face in NM: there are drought plans in place and growing evidence that illustrates the decrease in precipitation and an increase in temperatures, which will further reduce water resources. The scope of this paper is to analyze the environmental management strategies of the Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe Golf Course, which is located in a semi-arid high desert region. Many areas were examined including land use and development, integrated pest management, water management, turf management, and energy and waste management. Most data was collected via literary reviews as well as data collected on the field and observations of golf course management tactics. MSL golf course has proven to implement sustainable environmental management strategies that will not only sustain the longevity of the MSL golf course, but also reduce the impact of golf courses in semi-arid regions while protecting the health of the general public and the environment. Furthermore, the MSL golf course has proved beneficial to the local economy both directly and indirectly. The MSL golf course is a leader in sustainable environmental resource management, and these results can be used by other golf course managers who aim to reduce their environmental impacts while avoiding unnecessary costs.
