Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Red Dynamite, Carl R. Weinberg argues that creationism's tenacious hold on American public life depended on culture-war politics inextricably embedded in religion. Many Christian conservatives were convinced that evolutionary thought promoted immoral and even bestial social, sexual, and political behavior. The "fruits" of subscribing to Darwinism were, in their minds, a dangerous rearrangement of God-given standards and the unsettling of traditional hierarchies of power. Despite claiming to focus exclusively on science and religion, creationists were practicing politics. Their anticommunist campaign, often infused with conspiracy theory, gained power from the fact that the Marxist founders, the early Bolshevik leaders, and their American allies were staunch evolutionists. Using the Scopes "Monkey" Trial as a starting point, Red Dynamite traces the politically explosive union of Darwinism and communism over the next century. Across those years, social evolution was the primary target of creationists, and their "ideas have consequences" strategy instilled fear that shaped the contours of America's culture wars. By taking the anticommunist arguments of creationists seriously, Weinberg reveals a neglected dimension of antievolutionism and illuminates a source of the creationist movement's continuing strength. Book Studies in the Book of Daniel 2 Volumes

Download or read book Studies in the Book of Daniel 2 Volumes written by Robert Dick Wilson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2002-05-29 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With thoroughness Wilson tackles some of the questions raised regarding the historical statements in the Book of Daniel. The authenticity of Daniel has been doubted or disparaged for a variety of reasons. No one person has examined in more detail the claims of those who point out the ÒflawsÓ in Daniel than did Robert Dick Wilson. Each of the eighteen chapters in his first book deals with a separate allegation, and with characteristic thoroughness he defends the book against its critics. In the second volume Wilson deals forthrightly with the relationship of Daniel to the canon of the Old Testament, discussing the apocalypses and date of Daniel, and then significantly measuring the influence, background, and prophecies of Daniel. Wilson discusses the principles underlying the objections leveled at the book of Daniel. He states each principle along with the assumptions on which it is based, lists reasons why the assumptions are false, and finally draws conclusions from the discussion. Readers will appreciate the expertly prepared indexes.

Maxwell Coder, as well as other trusted fundamental scholars, that the Bible was settled in God's mind in every detail before written down on earth and that God prepared the men who wrote--Isaiah is "a polished shaft," for example (Isa. 49:2)--and that God even prepared and controlled the environment and character and feeling of the writers so that they wrote down God's revelation in His inspired words.

Download or read book Plundering the Egyptians written by John J. Yeo and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2010 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plundering the Egyptians focuses on the study of the Old Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary from to 1998. More specifically, it presents the lives and academic labors of Robert Dick Wilson (1929-1930), Edward Joseph Young (1936-1968), Raymond Bryan Dillard (1969-1993), and Tremper Longman III (1981-1998). These featured scholars were highly influential in changing the shape of Old Testament studies at Westminster through the introduction of novel scholarly tools and ideas that reveal methodological and theological development. Their individual historical contexts, scholarly contributors, and interactions with historical-critical scholarship are presented and analyzed. Modifications in their respective methodologies are highlighted and often indicate significant shifts within the Old Princeton-Westminster trajectory from an anti-critical stance toward a position of openness toward historical-critical methodology and its conclusions. The implications of these shifts within Westminster are important because they mirror the current change and challenges in evangelicalism today. Book jacket.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After thirty-two years of complete silence, Robert Newmiller feels compelled to share his early church life and the result of an ensuing struggle that played out within the deepest regions of his heart and mind. Although he once trembled at the thought of speaking of the past, he now sees that the hand of God's providence was at work within the darkest of circumstances, and he now understands that his brokenness and tears served a greater purpose. Join Newmiller as he shares his past in Molested in God's House. 'This is the poignant story of the journey of a soul. A soul born to trust, damaged by betrayal, tormented by the loss of faith, then emergent with God's love renewed. Mr. Newmiller courageously shares the lifelong ramifications of sexual abuse. He challenges us as a society to stop this evil and protect our children. He espouses the power of God in accepting and granting forgiveness and then reintegrating love, hope, trust and faith into his life and the life of his family.' Susan Pronchik, guidance counselor 'Molested in God's House is a journey of faith that starts out in the wide-eyed wonder of a child, takes us through the sequences of the most evil depravity that life can mete out to one person, and comes full circle to a living faith restored to a new and greater dimension.' Karen Tomlinson, founder, Step by Step Learning Center 'This book is a roadmap of sorts that speaks to the hearts of all fallen Christians who believe incorrectly that they have fallen too far from our Creator's love to find their way home. It proclaims: You are welcome again in your heavenly Father's house!' Jim Femino, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter

Book From God To Us Revised and Expanded

Download or read book From God To Us Revised and Expanded written by Norman L Geisler and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2012-08-10 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where did the Bible come from? How do we know the right books are in the Bible? Does the Bible contain errors? What are the oldest copies we have of the Bible? How do we know that the Bible hasn't been changed over the years? Why are there so many translations of the Bible, and which one should I use? These are just some of the important questions about the Bible that are discussed in this book. Understanding basic facts about the origin of the Bible is essential for every Christian, but it can also be confusing and difficult. Here, two well-known scholars, authors of a more technical book, A General Introduction to the Bible, explain simply and clearly these basic facts. Inspiration, the biblical canon, major manuscripts, textual criticism, early translations, and modern versions are some of the major topics discussed. Careful explanations of important points are given throughout, as the entire field of biblical introduction is covered. Completely updated and revised edition of the 1974 work (more than 78,000 copies sold). Helpful charts have been added, along with an index of subjects, persons, and Scripture. This book is ideally suited for Bible students, pastors, and professors. While writing for readers without previous training, the authors do not gloss over difficult and complex issues when they arise. The nature of inspiration, the extent of the canon, and the usefulness of modern versions are all clearly discussed. The authors write: "The chain of communication from God to us is strong. It has several solid links: inspiration, collection, transmission, and translations. The strength of these links provide the contemporary Christian with the moral certitude that the Spirit-inspired original text of Scripture has been providentially preserved by God so that for all practical purposes the Bible in our hands is the infallible and inerrant word of God."

Book Principles of the Law of Evidence and Rationality Applied in the Johannine Christology

Download or read book Principles of the Law of Evidence and Rationality Applied in the Johannine Christology written by Henry Hock Guan Teh and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-02-10 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those who give primacy to evidence in the apologetic task have long maintained that (1) this is exactly the biblical writers' approach - maintaining, as they do, that they ""saw and heard"" the things of which they speak - and (2) such reasoning is funda- mental to society in general, as exemplified in every civilised legal system. Henry Hock Guan Teh concretises these vital points by way of the Gospel of John, where the Apostle consistently marshals eyewitness evidence to show that ""Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you might have life through His name"" (John 20:31). No finer or more scholarly support for a biblically grounded, factual, juridically sophisticated defence of Christian truth is available. Professional and lay evangelists - and anyone endeavouring to ""preach the gospel to every creature"" - simply must obtain and be- nefit from this book. And sceptical lawyers, needless to say, owe it to themselves to wrestle with the author's case for the only historical religion that holds up in court. John Warwick Montgomery, Ph.D., D.Théol., LL.D., Professor Emeritus of Law and Hu- manities, University of Bedfordshire, England; Distinguished Research Professor of Philosophy, Concordia University Wisconsin, USA; Director, International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism and Human Rights, Strasbourg, France Dr. Teh's book is in the same genre as those by Simon Greenleaf professor Dr. John War- wick Montgomery, Craig Parton. Esq., and Prof. Dr. Ross Clifford. As can be seen by the title, Dr. Teh concentrates on the Gospel of John - chapter-by-chapter. His powerful ar- gument can even be comprehended by those of us not legally trained. Recommended. Dr. Rod Rosenbladt, Professor of Theology. Concordia University Irvine. 1517legacy.com This book will greatly help people understand the legal, historical and rational case for Christianity. Dr Henry Teh uniquely focuses on John's gospel and establishes the Case for Jesus Resurrection through the ""best"" evidence principle. This emphases on John's gospel establishes that it is a key text for Christian apologetics. The book is a compel- ling read for those who take 1 Peter 3:15 seriously. And for those who believe Jesus is a fairy-tale, it will cause them to reconsider the fact of his Resurrection. It is well written and a must addition to one's apologetic armoury. Rev Dr. Ross Clifford AM, Principal of Morling Theological College - Sydney, Australia Author of ""John Montgomery's Legal Apologetic"" Henry Hock Guan Teh obtained his Ph.D. from Trinity Theological Seminary, Indiana, USA where he studied apologetics under Prof. John Warwick Montgomery and also at International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism & Human Rights, Strasbourg, France. With two British law degrees, he was also a trial lawyer and chief law examiner. Presently, Henry Teh is adjunct lecturer in Philosophy, Ethics and Law.
