His assignment is simple: stay under cover, but do absolutely anything necessary to reach the planet Omega IX and offer the renegade Runners clemency if they surrender---which may be complicated since Ivan's brutally violent brother has taken lead of the Runners in Ivan's absence. In search of the Runners, Ivan catches a ride out to the wildest reaches of the galaxy via a mysterious transportation system, the Star Road. His fellow passengers on Star Road Vehicle-66 are a suspicious group, all with their own hidden reasons for traversing the star road. And as the Runners must choose one brother over the other, on a planet filled with ancient secrets, those who survive will confront a mystery that changes the Star Road, and humanity, forever.

An in-depth study of the witchcraft trial records and the testimony of the witches themselves proves that the European peasants accused of witchcraft died, in fact, for the sake of the world's oldest spiritual path. Learn why Shamanism has survived in one form or another to this day.

Download or read book The Road Movie Book written by Steven Cohan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-01-04 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Road Movie Book is the first comprehensive study of an enduring but ever-changing Hollywood genre, its place in American culture, and its legacy to world cinema. The road and the cinema both flourished in the twentieth century, as technological advances brought motion pictures to a mass audience and the mass produced automobile opened up the road to the ordinary American. When Jean Baudrillard equated modern American culture with 'space, speed, cinema, technology' he could just as easily have added that the road movie is its supreme emblem. The contributors explore how the road movie has confronted and represented issues of nationhood, sexuality, gender, class and race. They map the generic terrain of the road movie, trace its evolution on American television as well as on the big screen from the 1930s through the 1980s, and, finally, consider road movies that go off the road, departing from the US landscape or travelling on the margins of contemporary American culture. Movies discussed include: * Road classics such as It Happened One Night, The Grapes of Wrath, The Wizard of Oz and the Bob Hope-Bing Crosby Road to films * 1960's reworkings of the road movie in Easy Rider and Bonnie and Clyde * Russ Meyer's road movies: from Motorpsycho! to Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! * Contemporary hits such as Paris Texas, Rain Man, Natural Born Killers and Thelma and Louise * The road movie, Australian style, from Mad Max to the Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J.P. Romney's The Monster on the Road Is Me is a darkly comic debut novel about the unexpected strength we find when we are tested beyond our limits. It starts with the crows. When you see them, you know he’s found you. Koda Okita is a high school student in modern-day Japan who isn’t very popular. He suffers from narcolepsy and has to wear a watermelon-sized helmet to protect his head in case he falls. But Koda couldn’t care less about his low social standing. He is content with taking long bike rides and hanging out in the convenience store parking lot with his school-dropout friend, Haru. But when a rash of puzzling deaths sweeps his school, Koda discovers that his narcoleptic naps allow him to steal the thoughts of nearby supernatural beings. He learns that his small town is under threat from a ruthless mountain demon that is hell-bent on vengeance. With the help of a mysterious—and not to mention very cute—classmate, Koda must find a way to take down this demon. But his unstable and overwhelming new abilities seem to have a mind of their own...
Download or read book Doctor Sax written by Jack Kerouac and published by Grove/Atlantic, Inc.. This book was released on 2007-12-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Kerouac’s best book.”—TIME Dr. Sax is a haunting novel of deeply felt adolescence, Jack Kerouac tells the story of Jack Duluoz, a French-Canadian boy growing up in Kerouac’s own birthplace, the dingy factory town of Lowell, Massachusetts. There, Dr. Sax, with his flowing cape, slouched hat, and insinuating leer, is chief among the many ghosts and demons that populate Jack’s fantasy world. Deftly mingling memory and dream, Kerouac captures the accents and textures of his boyhood in Lowell in this novel of a cryptic, apocalyptic hipster phantom that he once described as “the greatest book I ever wrote, or that I will write.”

Download or read book Driving Visions written by David Laderman and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the visionary rebellion of Easy Rider to the reinvention of home in The Straight Story, the road movie has emerged as a significant film genre since the late 1960s, able to cut across a wide variety of film styles and contexts. Yet, within the variety, a certain generic core remains constant: the journey as cultural critique, as exploration beyond society and within oneself. This book traces the generic evolution of the road movie with respect to its diverse presentations, emphasizing it as an "independent genre" that attempts to incorporate marginality and subversion on many levels. David Laderman begins by identifying the road movie's defining features and by establishing the literary, classical Hollywood, and 1950s highway culture antecedents that formatively influenced it. He then traces the historical and aesthetic evolution of the road movie decade by decade through detailed and lively discussions of key films. Laderman concludes with a look at the European road movie, from the late 1950s auteurs through Godard and Wenders, and at compelling feminist road movies of the 1980s and 1990s.
Download or read book THE ROAD OF TIME written by Philippe Guillemant and published by . This book was released on 2018-07-14 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book completely changes our understanding of time, by showing how the future influences our present. It demonstrates that our thoughts, especially our intentions, necessarily influence the creation of our reality long before our actions. This concerns our future and not our present, contrary to the naïve idea that the observer could create their own reality, derived from quantum physics. The result is a true revelation of our creative role in the universe, which implies that our primary nature is spiritual in essence, meaning that pure love exists, not as a product of brain chemistry but as an energy more fundamental than gravitation or light, related to our free will through extra dimensions of space-time. Dr Philippe Guillemant also conducted a real experiment regarding strange coincidences and particularly synchronicities, after having discovered why and how it is possible to provoke them. Equipped with this "practical manual," the reader can also try it out. Written by a physicist, The Road of Time nevertheless reads like a novel. "This is now starting to be mainstream physics."
