Book Gravel Roads

Download or read book Gravel Roads written by Ken Skorseth and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual is to provide clear and helpful information for maintaining gravel roads. Very little technical help is available to small agencies that are responsible for managing these roads. Gravel road maintenance has traditionally been "more of an art than a science" and very few formal standards exist. This manual contains guidelines to help answer the questions that arise concerning gravel road maintenance such as: What is enough surface crown? What is too much? What causes corrugation? The information is as nontechnical as possible without sacrificing clear guidelines and instructions on how to do the job right.

Book Engineering geology of the Sydney Region

Download or read book Engineering geology of the Sydney Region written by P.J.N. Pells and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together in one place as much factual data as possible relating to the engineering geology of the Sydney Region, A huge amount of information resides in the files of various consulting and government organizations from the innumerable site investigations and construction projects in Sydney. This information brought together provides a data source that is the first point of reference for future investigations and construction projects. With the above object in mind subject headings were established based on the stratigraphic sequence of the Sydney Basin. Invitations were extended to potential authors with expertise and experience in these subjects and after some two years, the papers in this volume were produced. Engineering Geology of the Sydney Region is produced by a committee. As such it has the advantage of canvassing a broad range of opinion and experience. A data source has been produced for geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists working in or having a particular interest in the Sydney Region.

Book Thinking about Society Theory and Practice

Download or read book Thinking about Society Theory and Practice written by Ian Jarvie and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I. C. Jarvie was trained as a social anthropologist in the center of British social anthropology - the London School of Economics, where Bronislaw Malinowski was the object of ancestor worship. Jarvie's doctorate was in philosophy, however, under the guidance of Karl Popper and John Watkins. He changed his department not as a defector but as a rebel, attempting to exorcize the ancestral spirit. He criticized the method of participant obser vation not as useless but as not comprehensive: it is neither necessary nor sufficient for the making of certain contributions to anthropology; rather, it all depends on the problem-situation. And so Jarvie remained an anthro pologist at heart, who, in addition to some studies in rather conventional anthropological or sociological molds, also studied the tribe of social scien tists, but also critically examining their problems - especially their overall, rather philosophical problems, but not always so: a few of the studies in cluded in this volume exemplify his work on specific issues, whether of technology, or architecture, or nationalism in the academy, or moviemaking, or even movies exhibiting excessive sex and violence. These studies attract his attention both on account of their own merit and on account of their need for new and powerful research tools, such as those which he has forged in his own intellectual workshop over the last two decades.

Book The Handbook of Communication History

Download or read book The Handbook of Communication History written by Peter Simonson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Communication History addresses central ideas, social practices, and media of communication as they have developed across time, cultures, and world geographical regions. It attends to both the varieties of communication in world history and the historical investigation of those forms in communication and media studies. The Handbook editors view communication as encompassing patterns, processes, and performances of social interaction, symbolic production, material exchange, institutional formation, social praxis, and discourse. As such, the history of communication cuts across social, cultural, intellectual, political, technological, institutional, and economic history. The volume examines the history of communication history; the history of ideas of communication; the history of communication media; and the history of the field of communication. Readers will explore the history of the object under consideration (relevant practices, media, and ideas), review its manifestations in different regions and cultures (comparative dimensions), and orient toward current thinking and historical research on the topic (current state of the field). As a whole, the volume gathers disparate strands of communication history into one volume, offering an accessible and panoramic view of the development of communication over time and geographical places, and providing a catalyst to further work in communication history.

Book Architecture and Patterns for IT Service Management Resource Planning and Governance Making Shoes for the Cobbler s Children

Download or read book Architecture and Patterns for IT Service Management Resource Planning and Governance Making Shoes for the Cobbler s Children written by Charles T. Betz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-11-17 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architecture and Patterns for IT Service Management, Resource Planning, and Governance: Making Shoes for the Cobbler's Children provides an independent examination of developments in Enterprise Resource Planning for Information. Major companies, research firms, and vendors are offering Enterprise Resource Planning for Information Technology, which they label as ERP for IT, IT Resource Planning and related terms. This book presents on-the-ground coverage of enabling IT governance in architectural detail, which can be used to define a strategy for immediate execution. It fills the gap between high-level guidance on IT governance and detailed discussions about specific vendor technologies. It provides a unique value chain approach to integrating the COBIT, ITIL, and CMM frameworks into a coherent, unified whole. It presents a field-tested, detailed conceptual information model with definitions and usage scenarios, mapped to both process and system architectures. This book is recommended for practitioners and managers engaged in IT support in large companies, particularly those who are information architects, enterprise architects, senior software engineers, program/project managers, and IT managers/directors.
