This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important book sheds light on the ways in which modern tools of welfare economics can be used to assess the benefits and costs of resource conflicts involving hydropower. The chapters highlight key methodological issues in this area; ranging from the intersection between cost-benefit analysis and behavioral economics, to the value of load balancing services provided by hydropower. The inclusion of insights from expert contributors from both sides of the Atlantic brings a unique and interesting range of viewpoints to the work.Several factors suggest that resource conflicts involving moving water are likely to be even more difficult to resolve today than they have been in the past. The contributors, top scholars in resource economics, consider a variety of issues through the lens of cost-benefit analysis. In the first part ofthe book, they address specific cases and issues from North America and Europe. The book closes with a more general look at the topic.

This book was released on 2018-08-01 with total page 33052 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regarded by many as the most comprehensive anthology of all time, ‘The Harvard Classics’ was first published in 1909 under the supervision of the Harvard president Charles W. Eliot. An esteemed academic, Eliot had argued that the elements of a liberal education could be gained by spending 15 minutes a day reading from a collection of books that could fit on a five-foot shelf. The publisher P. F. Collier challenged Eliot to make good on this statement and ‘Dr. Eliot's Five Foot Shelf’ was the result. Eight years later Eliot added a further 20 volumes as a sub-collection titled ‘The Harvard Classics Shelf of Fiction’, offering some of the greatest novels and short stories of world literature. The exhaustive anthology of the ‘The Harvard Classics’ comprises every major literary figure, philosopher, religion, folklore and historical subject up to the twentieth century. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates the historical changes in early medieval China as seen in the tales of the supernatural—thematic transformation from traditional demonic retribution to Karmic retribution, from indigenous Chinese netherworld to Buddhist concepts of hell, and from the traditional Chinese savior to a new savior, Buddha. It also examines Buddhist imagery and the flourish of new motifs in the fantastic dreamworld and their relationship with Buddhism. This study relates the Youming lu to the development of popular Chinese Buddhist beliefs, attempting to single out ideas that differ from the beliefs found in Buddhist scriptures as well as miraculous tales written especially to promote Buddhism.

Book Mimbres Life and Society

Download or read book Mimbres Life and Society written by Patricia A. Gilman and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thousand years ago, village farmers in the Mimbres Valley of what is now southwestern New Mexico created stunning black-on-white pottery. Mimbres pottery has added a fascinating dimension to southwestern archaeology, but it has also led to the partial or total destruction of most Mimbres sites. The Mimbres Foundation, in one of the few modern investigations of a Mimbres pueblo, excavated the Mattocks site, containing about 180 surface rooms in addition to pit structures. Mimbres Life and Society details the Mattocks site’s architecture and artifacts, and it includes 160 figures, showing more than 400 photographs of painted vessels from the site. Mimbres pueblos, as early examples of people using surface room blocks, are ideal for investigating questions about how and why people moved from earlier subterranean pit structures to aboveground room blocks. The authors consider the number of households living at the site before and after the transition, as well as the lack of evidence for subsistence intensification and population growth as causes of this transition. These analyses suggest that each room block on the site housed a single family as opposed to multiple families, the more common interpretation. There were not necessarily more households on the site during the Classic period than earlier. Patricia A. Gilman and Steven A. LeBlanc spent five seasons excavating at the Mattocks site and many more analyzing and writing about Mattocks site data. They note that subtle social differences among people were at play, and they emphasize that the Mattocks site may be unique among Mimbres pueblos in many aspects. Mimbres Life and Society reveals broad-ranging implications for southwestern archaeologists and anyone interested in understanding the ancient Southwest and early village societies.

Book The Real Faith with Annotations and Guided Readings by Bill Johnson

Download or read book The Real Faith with Annotations and Guided Readings by Bill Johnson written by Bill Johnson and published by Destiny Image Publishers. This book was released on 2023-11-07 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bill Johnson guides you through the book that transformed his healing ministry. The Gospels are full of stories of supernatural healing—sight restored to the blind, the lame made to walk, and the dead raised to life. We wonder why these types of miracles aren't more prevalent in our own lives. Is it our lack of faith? Do we just need to try harder, believe more? But these questions imply that these miracles are born out of our own efforts. This isn’t how faith works. As Bill Johnsons says in the introduction to this special edition, "Faith is not about striving; it is about surrender." In this unique book, Bill Johnson guides you through the work that has most influenced his own healing ministry—The Real Faith—written by Dr. Charles Price in 1940. Containing an introduction, guided notes and questions by Pastor Bill to enrich your own reading, this timeless classic by one of the great “generals” of the faith offers proven wisdom for your own journey in healing ministry. In The Real Faith, Charles Price and Bill Johnson will invite you to think differently about faith—and therefore healing miracles. Faith is: A gift from God, given to us A product of our total surrender to Him An invitation to know God deeply Born out of intimacy with God An ongoing discovery with God Supernatural healing, for Charles Price and Bill Johnson, is a byproduct of deep, abiding intimacy with God. As you read Dr. Price's ageless words and Pastor Bill’s remarkable insights, you’ll begin to understand that the miracles we long for are not about our own efforts, they’re a product of real faith. That is, faith given to us by Him.
