Book excerpt: “A must-read for any spy aficionado!” — Former Senior Operations Officer, CIA “It is a profound book. One I won’t forget for a long while.” — Senior Military Officer, Pentagon Someone is stealing weapons and ammunition from America's military bases. Who is stealing them and why? That is what CIA operative Eric Brent faces as he is being used by the CIA to flush out a secretive, "phantom" group hostile to a U.S. administration that threatens to destroy the American economy and shrink individual freedoms under the code name, Project Warrior. Alexandra Hamlet’s first novel, The Right Guard, takes us on a suspense-filled journey through the world of intelligence and defense in the 1970s. Book Chasing Perfection

Book excerpt: A coaching legend shares techniques, philosophies, and team-building exercises applicable beyond the playing field In 1979, when Bob Ladouceur took over the head football coaching job at De La Salle high school, the program had never once had a winning season. By the time he stepped down in 2013 and after posting an unprecedented 399–25–3 record, De La Salle was regarded as one of the great dynasties in the history of high school football. In When the Game Stands Tall: Coaches' Playbook, Ladouceur shares, for the first time, the coaching philosophies he employed at De La Salle. Far more than a book on the Xs and Os of football, this resource focuses on how Ladouceur created a culture based on accountability, work ethic, humility, and commitment that made his teams greater than the sum of their parts. This book not only include details on the nuances of the game and the techniques that made the Spartans the most celebrated high school football team in history, it also has chapters on creating what Ladouceur calls an "authentic team experience," which include lessons as valuable in a board room as in a locker room.

Book La Canne Royale

Download or read book La Canne Royale written by Chris Slee and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-05-14 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: La Canne holds a unique position in the development of martial arts in the nineteenth century. It was at once a weapon for self-defense taught in the boxing and savate clubs across France and Belgium as well as a tool for gymnastics and physical education. The canne was taught to the officer class in military academies and to children in public schools. This volume presents two mid-century methods for learning the canne which encompass both these aspects of its use. Larribeau's 1856 A New Theory of the Art of the Canne concentrates more on self-defence and introduces lessons against a mannequin as a teaching method. Humé's 1862 Treatise and Theory of La Canne Royale centres more on the gymnastic and athletic aspects of the canne. Both provide a fascinating insight into the canne before it was codified by Vigny and incorporated into the composite English martial art of Bartitsu.

Book The Hidden Land

    Book Details:
  • Author : Cheng Gu
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2019-09-25
  • ISBN : 1000711005
  • Pages : 311 pages

Download or read book The Hidden Land written by Cheng Gu and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-09-25 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Hidden Land" means that a large amount of land in the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) was "hidden" or unknown, since the land was managed by both the administrative and the military systems, and only the former was made public while the latter was being hidden due to confidentiality issues. This is one of the author’s creative findings as a result of his solid textual research and rigorous argumentation. Since the Ming state management system had a great impact on the land, the population, the taxes and corvée, the imperial examinations, the justice, the grass-roots organizations and the frontier ethnics during the 500 years from Ming to Qing (1636–1912), the views on the garrisons and guards (weisuo) in the military system are of great help to review the essential issues of the period, which were often misunderstood or neglected before. In addition, the author introduces the present situation, existing problems and basic historical materials in the Ming study which will be beneficial to the Ming researchers and enthusiasts.
