Book The Return of Christ a New Perspective

Download or read book The Return of Christ a New Perspective written by Craig Gamble and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2011-10-31 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I moved from the San Francisco bay area to Riverbank in 2009. I have spent the last 2 years, healing both physically and spiritually, and have also used this time to finish this writing. My relationship with God has been growing and healing since I got here, and so I have chosen to open myself up to Gods' Love completely, and in doing so, I have come to accept the path that God has put me on. I don't know where this journey will take me, but I go forth with the undying belief that I must start the process with me, and then I can freely share it with the world. In following this ministry I know that I am doing our Fathers' will. And so I humbly come before you, and ask that you join me in prayer. Please pray for this world now more than ever. This world needs healing and it can only come from Forgiveness. I pray that these words will spread across the planet and touch everyone who hears them. I trust in our Lord that in some small way my obedience to this calling will in some small way make a difference in this chaotic world that we live in. May the Lord bless and keep you. May He make his face shine upon you and give you peace.

Book Atonement and the New Perspective

Download or read book Atonement and the New Perspective written by Stephen Burnhope and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-08-10 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atonement has been described as the central doctrine of Christianity and yet, surprisingly, the church has never insisted on a particular understanding of how redemption in Christ was achieved. Instead, a miscellany of metaphors has been employed, each picturing "something" of Christ's work. Recent debate within Reformed Evangelicalism has been characterized by claims for hegemony to be granted to penal substitution versus counter-arguments for a kaleidoscopic, multi-model understanding. Notably absent in these discussions, however, are two considerations. One is any common nexus to draw atonement thought together. The other is any positive theological contribution deriving from God's preexisting relationship with Israel (the presumed role of which has rather been to provide a negative contrast of law-versus-grace and works-versus-faith, as the dark background against which the light of Christ may shine more brightly). Recent scholarship, however--particularly the "new perspective on Paul"--has comprehensively dismantled the old stereotypes concerning first-century Judaism. This book asks how differently we might think about the atonement once it is brought into conversation with the new scholarship. It concludes by proposing a "new perspective" on atonement in which Christ is central, Israel and Torah are affirmed, and the traditional metaphors continue to find their place.

Book The Return of Christ

    Book Details:
  • Author : David L. Allen
  • Publisher : B&H Publishing Group
  • Release : 2011-05-18
  • ISBN : 1433675811
  • Pages : 240 pages

Download or read book The Return of Christ written by David L. Allen and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2011-05-18 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the study of end times (eschatology), evangelical Christians usually adhere to one of three positions. Premillennialism holds that Christ will return to earth before He reigns over an earthly kingdom for one thousand years. Postmillennialism says the kingdom of God will become realized on this earth through the church's influence, even before Christ's return. Amillennialism suggests the millennium is not a literal thousand-year reign, but that Christ's return will usher in eternity. The Return of Christ gathers presentations from the Acts 1:11 Conference where church leaders spoke in support of the premillennial position and pre-tribulation rapture. Regardless of whether or not a reader holds this same position, the text emphasizes the deep importance of eschatology in Christ's teaching ministry and as the focus for our hope. Indeed, without the promise of Christ's return, Christianity has little to offer the unbeliever. The book's dozen contributors include Jerry Vines, Ergun Caner, Danny Akin, Paige Patterson, David Allen, Richard Land, Junior Hill, Stanton R. Norman, Craig Blaising, Lamar Cooper, Steven Cox, and Michael Vlach.

Book A New Perspective on Jesus Acadia Studies in Bible and Theology

Download or read book A New Perspective on Jesus Acadia Studies in Bible and Theology written by James D. G. Dunn and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2005-03-01 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this compelling study, renowned author James D. G. Dunn provides a critique of the quest for the historical Jesus. Dunn claims that the quest has been misguided from the start in its attempt to separate the historical Jesus from the Christ of faith. Dunn argues that Jesus scholars have consistently failed to recognize how the early disciples' pre-Easter faith and a predominantly oral culture shaped the way the stories about Jesus were told and passed on. Dunn also examines the implications of oral transmission for our understanding of Synoptic relationships. A New Perspective on Jesus proposes a change in direction for Jesus scholarship. It will be of interest to pastors, church leaders, students, and thoughtful laypersons wanting a fresh perspective on Jesus studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Christ and the New Creation, Matthew Emerson takes a fresh approach to understanding New Testament theology by using a canonical methodology. Although typically confined to Old Testament theology, Emerson sees fruitfulness in applying this method to New Testament theology as well. Instead of a thematic or book-by-book analysis, Emerson attempts to trace the primary theological message of the New Testament through paying attention to its narrative and canonical shape. He concludes that the order of the books of the New Testament emphasize the story of Christ's inauguration, commissioning, and consummation of the new creation.

Download or read book Justification Reconsidered written by Stephen Westerholm and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2013-11-14 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written of late about what the apostle Paul really meant when he spoke of justification by faith, not the works of the law. This short study by Stephen Westerholm carefully examines proposals on the subject by Krister Stendahl, E. P. Sanders, Heikki Raisanen, N. T. Wright, James D. G. Dunn, and Douglas A. Campbell. In doing so, Westerholm notes weaknesses in traditional understandings that have provoked the more recent proposals, but he also points out areas in which the latter fail to do justice to the apostle. Readers of this book will gain not only a better grasp of the ongoing theological debate about justification but also a more nuanced overall understanding of Paul.
