This book was released on 2024-04-26 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As globalization reshapes the financial landscape, the community of retail investors has burgeoned over the past two decades. This expansion, while offering a diverse tapestry of investment options, has also introduced a layer of complexity to the decision-making process. Navigating the inherent risk associated with equity shares, where returns are inherently uncertain, becomes paramount for retail investors. Striking a delicate balance between maximizing returns and minimizing risk becomes the key objective. Investors actively seek instruments that offer either higher returns for the same level of risk or equivalent returns for a lower level, ultimately aiming for optimal risk-adjusted returns. Beyond risk assessment, awareness of equity shares plays a critical role in shaping investor decisions. This book delves into the concepts and theories that underpin awareness and risk perception among retail equity investors. It further sheds light on the awareness and risk perception levels of Indian retail equity investors and explores the impact these have on their investment choices.

Book excerpt: The case discusses the dilemma faced by retail equity investors who have invested in companies in which promoters had pledged their equity against personal borrowing. Equity pledging by promoters was a global phenomenon with greater numbers and more frequent pledging in developing and underdeveloped financial markets than in developed financial markets. Between 2009 and 2019, equity pledging increased significantly in Indian firms. Many promoters defaulted in margin calls and lenders were forced to sell their shares. Due to this forced sell by lenders, retail and marginal equity investors suffered huge losses. However, fear of a price crash was still prevalent for other firms in which promoters had pledged their equity holdings. Students will be asked to evaluate the risks of retail investors invested in firms with promoter pledged shares and market-wide implications of increased share pledging activity.

Download or read book U S Mutual Fund Retail Investors in International Equity Markets Is the Tail Wagging the Dog written by Li L. Ong and published by INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND. This book was released on 2005-08-01 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do the dynamics of net flows to U.S. retail mutual funds affect equity returns in emerging markets? The question merits further examination since retail investors in mutual funds can exert a much greater degree of "control" over these funds via cash injections or redemptions at any time. A VAR analysis shows increased discrimination across emerging market regions after the Asian crisis as investors focused on individual regions rather than on emerging markets as a generic asset class. Crossover funds allocations also appear to affect emerging market returns. Furthermore, investment decisions by fund managers seem to be largely driven by retail investor allocations.

Book Retail Investors and Industry based Style Investing

Download or read book Retail Investors and Industry based Style Investing written by Thanyaphat Niruthisard and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigates if retail investors in the Stock Exchange of Thailand pursue industry-based style investing using transaction data during 2004-2013. It finds the coordination in retail investor demand at the industry-level. In contrast to the prediction of the style investing model, retail investor industry demand is negatively related to past industry returns. No relationship between retail investor industry demand and subsequent industry returns is found across all time horizons. In addition, there is evidence that after choosing to invest in an attractive industry, retail investors prefer to invest in small-cap stocks more than large-cap stocks. These findings suggest that retail investors' investment decisions are influenced by industry-wide categorization, and they make their buying decisions follow a two-step decision-making process.

Book Private Equity Investment Opportunities for Retail Investors

Download or read book Private Equity Investment Opportunities for Retail Investors written by Manuel Huebschmann and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exploratory research paper, primarily based on secondary literature reviews, analyses the private equity (PE) investment access channels that currently exist for retail investors in the European Union (EU). The PE market is traditionally reserved to institutional investors due to legislative limitations and minimum investment requirements. However, the rapid growth of the industry in the last decade, and strong returns delivered to institutional investors, make PE also attractive to retail investors, who are mostly excluded from the asset class. The research provides an overview of this market and the legislative framework that governs the retail investor access to alternative investments in the EU. Ten private and public market PE investment vehicles are assessed using a framework developed by the authors to enable comparability of vehicles from retail investor perspective. From this analysis, the authors derive an investment selection process, which may be used to guide retail investors in their choice of PE investment options. The paper concludes with findings about the existing limitations of private and public PE investment vehicles from retail investor perspective and makes recommendations for what can be done to increase retail investor exposure to the PE market.

Book Retail Investors Awareness Towards Equity Investment With Reference to Bhopal City

Download or read book Retail Investors Awareness Towards Equity Investment With Reference to Bhopal City written by Sakshi Agrawal and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Economy progresses further when its citizens in any capacity add to the capital formation in terms of savings and investments. This is done with the help of mutual fund investors or through the retail investors. The retail Investors in India are very few as compared to the other investors who are investing through other financial services. This paper works on the behavior pattern of the retail investors with special reference to Bhopal. The investment by these investors at time is overshadowed by the level of understanding they have about financial securities and their experiences with the stock market. The retail investors have some apprehensions regarding the working of stock market and the feeling lurks in their mind, that whatever theory says, the stock market may not work as per the fundamental analysis or even on the basis of technical analysis, which though is very explicit, yet may not reflect the true picture. The general perception by the retail investors is the market works on random events or there are certain stock giants who make the market. Keeping this in mind the research is conducted by taking into consideration five factors, which include retail investors' predictive skills, purchase price of the stock as a reference point for trading, experiences with National Stock Exchange, preference of short term investment and sticking on to looser stock and selling the winners. The study supports the given factors which reflect the behavior of these investors.

Book The Educated Retail Investor

Download or read book The Educated Retail Investor written by Sergio Alberto Gramitto Ricci and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diffusion of mobile-first investing apps, like Robinhood, has increased retail investor participation in financial markets, particularly from the Millennial and GenZ generations, and has increased the diversity of retail investors. However, mobile-first investing apps are not free from controversy. In Regulating Democratized Investing, Abraham Cable tackles the debate on regulating mobile-first investing apps and largely opposes paternalistic regulation, which would raise unsurmountable barriers at the entrance of the stock market for retail investors. But it concedes to a form of regulation that in Cable's own words “serves ultra-retail investors a modest portion of what they really want.” We strongly appreciate the subtle analysis that Cable carries out in his article as well as his well-thought-out proposal. However, we are not entirely persuaded that a solution that “serves ultra-retail investors a modest portion of what they really want” would be fully satisfactory. In addition, we fear that Cable's proposals would further discourage investors with limited financial means from participating in the stock market and, through that, in the corporate sector. We believe that the stock market can be a strong saving technology for retirement and a good source of income. Furthermore, a more accessible stock market facilitates a more demographically heterogeneous share ownership. This, in turn, has positive impacts on diversity in corporate governance. Moreover, citizen involvement in the stock market and in corporate governance increases citizens' agency and can promote social cohesion. Accordingly, we propose an alternative approach which relies heavily on investing education and engagement. In our response, we briefly survey the personal finance education in the United States and then we propose that investing education should be mandatory at least at the high school level for all. This is not an overnight remedy and will take time to implement. However, investing education should be nurtured to ultimately achieve a more inclusive corporate sector which would help to restrain the growing income, wealth, and influence inequality.Investing education should encompass classes on personal finance, financial markets, and corporate governance. Including corporate governance in investing education curricula not only completes the set of knowledge necessary for investing in companies' shares, but also enhances the agency of investors as citizens. Investing education bridges the gap between citizens and Wall Street. It also provides citizens with the tools to engage with the companies in which they invest.

Book TrimTabs Investing

Download or read book TrimTabs Investing written by Charles Biderman and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-04-15 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether you are an investment professional managing billions of dollars or an individual investor with a small nest egg, TrimTabs Investing shows you how to beat the major stock market averages with less risk. This groundbreaking book begins by comparing the stock market to a casino in which the house (public companies and the insiders who run them) buys and sells shares with the players (institutional and individual investors). TrimTabs Investing argues that stock prices are primarily a function of liquidity—the amount of shares available for purchase and the amount of money available to buy them—rather than fundamental value. Finally, it outlines the building blocks of liquidity theory and explains how you can use them to predict the direction of the stock market. “Charles Biderman, a savvy and battle-scarred veteran of the investment wars, has fashioned an intriguing approach to making money in the stock market that adroitly avoids both heavy-breathing speculation and the standard Wall Street practices that enable investors, big and small, to lose money in good markets as well as bad. Aimed at the sophisticated investor (which may or may not be an oxymoron), the book is written in blessedly straightforward prose and is a worthwhile read for anyone with an urge to have a fling at investing.--Alan Abelson Barron’s “Since the days of Joseph and Pharaoh, it has been axiomatic that the size of the grain harvest affects the level of grain prices; but today’s investors have been slow to appreciate the fact that the supply of stock shares significantly determines the level of stock prices. Biderman’s long overdue book outlines the theory and evidence behind ‘Trading Float,’ the actual—and exploitable—power behind major moves in the stock market. --Paul Montgomery CEO and CIO of Montgomery Capital Management “‘Trade as corporate execs do, not as they say.’ Charles Biderman has built an impressive list of hedge fund clients from this essential insight, and this book does a great job explaining exactly how retail investors can incorporate it into their investing.” --Eric Zitzewitz Assistant Professor of Economics, Stanford Graduate School of Business “Charles Biderman is a smart thinker, clear writer—and he offers here some very interesting ideas. This book is for the little guy who enjoys reading about money and economics, even if he doesn’t adopt the strategies offered here; and for the professional or sophisticated investor, who, to a greater or lesser degree, just might.--Andrew Tobias author of The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need

Book Playing the Market

Download or read book Playing the Market written by Kieran Heinemann and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowhere in Europe are people more likely to enjoy a regular flutter in stocks and shares than in Britain. Whether we consider the millions of online stockbroking accounts or the billions spent on spread betting - it is a national pastime in today's Britain to play the markets. How did this distinctively British obsession with investment and speculation come about? Playing the Market tells this story by exploring the history of financial capitalism in Britain during the twentieth century from below. It explains how and why everyday British people increasingly invested, speculated, and gambled in stocks and shares from the outbreak of World War I, over the postwar decades and the Thatcher years, up until the premiership of Tony Blair. The study accounts for a momentous shift in attitudes towards stock market investment that occurred throughout the twentieth century. In the interwar period, traditional moral and cultural constraints about the stock market, which were still powerful in the Victorian period, gradually began to collapse in public and private life. In the following decades, financial securities lost their stigma of being either immoral or suitable only for the upper classes. Promising higher than average returns and a similar thrill of risk and reward as gambling in horses or the football pools, the stock market became a popular pastime for millions of Britons - even in the postwar decades, when Britain had nationalized industries and politicians of both parties indulged in staunchly anti-finance rhetoric. With the expansion of popular investment after both world wars, Britain developed a stock market culture that was unique across Europe and gave rise to a market populist sentiment that eventually proved fertile soil for the arrival of Thatcherism.
