Book The Perception of Stimulus Relations

Download or read book The Perception of Stimulus Relations written by Hayne W. Reese and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Perception of Stimulus Relations: Discrimination Learning and Transposition focuses on the processes, methodologies, and approaches involved in discrimination learning and transposition. The book first offers information on stimulus equivalence, transposition of paradigms, and the transposition and relation perception problems. The manuscript then examines measurement, training, subject, and test variables. Topics include stimulus and procedural variables, effect of direction of transposition test, phylogenetic comparisons, concept knowledge, and speed of original learning. The publication elaborates on form transposition, including transposition of visual forms and the meaning of form and form transposition. The text then takes a look at relational and absolute theories, summary of findings and evaluation of theories, and outline of a theory of transposition. Discussions focus on assumptions and basic deductions, effect of absolute stimulus components, effect of noticing change in stimuli from training to test, and stimulus similarity. The book is a valuable source of data for readers interested in discrimination learning and transposition.

Book The Biology of Stentor

    Book Details:
  • Author : Vance Tartar
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2013-10-22

  • Pages : 426 pages

Download or read book The Biology of Stentor written by Vance Tartar and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Biology of Stentor summarizes all that has been learned about the biology of a certain group of ciliate protozoa: the stentors. Topics covered range from form and function in Stentor to behavior, fine structure, growth and division, and reorganization. Regeneration is also discussed, along with polarity, metabolism, genetics, and primordium development. This volume is comprised of 20 chapters and begins with a characterization of Stentor, with emphasis on its particular advantages in addressing general problems of biology. The reader is then introduced to form and function in Stentor, particularly S. coeruleus. The following chapters focus on the behavior (food selection, swimming, response to light, etc.) of stentors and the fine points of structure in terms of which this behavior is to be explained and which demonstrate the highly complex and precise achievements of morphogenesis. The remaining chapters explore growth and division in Stentor as well as the course of reorganization and regeneration; development of the oral primordium and how it is activated and inhibited; rate of regeneration in relation to the polar axis; fusion masses of whole stentors; and reconstitution in disarranged stentors. Various species of Stentor are also described, together with the techniques used to study them. The final chapter deals with hypotheses concerning the morphogenesis of ciliates. This book will be of interest to students and practitioners of biology and physiology.

Book Le Vacuome de la Cellule V g tale Morphologie Le Vacuome Animal Contractile Vacuoles of Protozoa Food Vacuoles

Download or read book Le Vacuome de la Cellule V g tale Morphologie Le Vacuome Animal Contractile Vacuoles of Protozoa Food Vacuoles written by Pierre Dangeard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is also possible that contractile vacuoles originate by some form of phase separation not yet understood and possibly involving the contractile properties of proteins, and' it is possible that this process continues to operate in the walls of the vacuoles or feeder canals. This secretory process may be the function of that part of the vacuolar apparatus which blackens on impregnation with osmic acid, and which seems to possess some degree of permanence from vacuole to vacuole and in some cases from parent to daughter cell. Remarkably little is known about the mechanism of systole. General body turgor may contribute, but it is not essential. In ciliates the main force is local and probably comes from a tension in the wall of the vacuole itself, but it is not known whether or not this is an active contraction of an oriented protein layer. The critical process for the initiation of systole is probably the opening of the pore. It is possible that in ciliates there is a rhythmically operating independent timing mechani,sm by which the vacuolar cycle is controlled, but its existence has not been demonstrated.
