Book Advances in Constitutive Relations Applied in Computer Codes

Download or read book Advances in Constitutive Relations Applied in Computer Codes written by Janusz R. Klepaczko and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-10 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many important industrial applications incline toward better understanding of the constitutive properties of matter. Nowadays, the development of measurement possibilities, even in nanoscale, allows for multiscale formulations that drive to the more sophisticated models used in continuum mechanics. These phenomenological models are particularly important and useful for solutions of very concrete initial boundary value problems. Our interests are focused mainly on detailed descriptions of material behavior that depend not only on simple stress-strain relationships but also includes the strong influence of loading type, which introduces temperature, strain rate dependence, fracture, etc. Understanding these physics phenomena is of fundamental importance for successful and responsible computations. In particular, using the popular commercial programs requires deep understanding of constitutive formulations and their restrictions. These lectures are addressed to industrial users who are responsible for making crucial decisions in design, as well as, to young scientists who work on new models that describe the behavior of materials which also account the new influences and reflect the complexity of the material behavior. At the end, let me express my gratitude to the lecturers of the CISM course No. 328 on “Advances in Constitutive Relations Applied in Computer Codes”, held in Udine in July 2007, who finally prepared the included materials. Unfortunately, during the preparation and collecting papers for this book, our friend and colleague Prof. Janusz R. Klepaczko passed away. This is a very big loss for the society of mechanics.

Book Handbook of Materials Behavior Models Three Volume Set

Download or read book Handbook of Materials Behavior Models Three Volume Set written by Jean LeMaitre and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-11-17 with total page 1231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first of a kind reference/handbook deals with nonlinear models and properties of material. In the study the behavior of materials' phenomena no unique laws exist. Therefore, researchers often turn to models to determine the properties of materials. This will be the first book to bring together such a comprehensive collection of these models. The Handbook deals with all solid materials, and is organized first by phenomena. Most of the materials models presented in an applications-oriented fashion, less descriptive and more practitioner-geared, making it useful in the daily working activities of professionals. The Handbook is divided into three volumes. Volume I, Deformation of Materials, introduces general methodologies in the art of modeling, in choosing materials, and in the "so-called" size effect. Chapters 2-5 deal respectively with elasticity and viscoelasticity, yield limit, plasticity, and visco-plasticity. Volume II, Failures in Materials, provides models on such concerns as continuous damage, cracking and fracture, and friction wear. Volume III, Multiphysics Behavior, deals with multiphysics coupled behaviors. Chapter's 10 and 11 are devoted to special classes of materials (composites, biomaterials, and geomaterials). The different sections within each chapter describe one model each with its domain of validity, its background, its formulation, the identification of material parameters for as many materials as possible, and advice on how to implement or use the model. The study of the behavior of materials, especially solids, is related to hundreds of areas in engineering design and control. Predicting how a material will perform under various conditions is essential to determining the optimal performance of machines and vehicles and the structural integrity of buildings, as well as safety issues. Such practical examples would be how various new materials, such as those used in new airplane hulls, react to heat or cold or sudden temperature changes, or how new building materials hold up under extreme earthquake conditions. The Handbook of Materials Behavior Models: Gathers together 117 models of behavior of materials written by the most eminent specialists in their field Presents each model's domain of validity, a short background, its formulation, a methodology to identify the materials parameters, advise on how to use it in practical applications as well as extensive references Covers all solid materials: metals, alloys, ceramics, polymers, composites, concrete, wood, rubber, geomaterials such as rocks, soils, sand, clay, biomaterials, etc Concerns all engineering phenomena: elasticity, viscoelasticity, yield limit, plasticity, viscoplasticity, damage, fracture, friction, and wear

Book Strain Rate History Effects in Body Centered Cubic Metals

Download or read book Strain Rate History Effects in Body Centered Cubic Metals written by J. Duffy and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a discussion of the strain rate history effects that occur during the deformation of body-centered-cubic (BCC) metals. It is divided into two parts: a brief review of previous work, which also includes some new data, followed by an analysis of material behavior based on previous and new results. The review discusses early experiments on steels and other BCC metals in which interrupted tests were performed. These tests consist of loading initially at one strain rate, unloading, and reloading at a second strain rate, either higher or lower than the first. Early experiments of this type had revealed a substantial difference in response between BCC and face-centered-cubic (FCC) metals. The review also includes results of incremental strain rate tests with large jumps in strain rate, augmented by a series of experiments designed to study strain rate history effects in steel. The latter consist of incremental tests performed on specimens of an AISI 1020 hot-rolled steel over the temperature range 83 K

Book Strain Rate and Strain Rate History Effects in Two Mild Steels

Download or read book Strain Rate and Strain Rate History Effects in Two Mild Steels written by M. L. Wilson and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are presented of a series of experiments performed with two steels to investigate the dependence of flow stress on strain rate and its history. For this purpose quasi-static, dynamic and incremental strain rate tests were conducted on SAE 1020 hot-rolled steel and SAE 1018 cold-rolled steel at room temperature. It is shown that while the flow stress of both steels exhibits a significant strain rate sensitivity, the effect of strain rate history is relatively small in comparison with that generally found in fcc and hcp metals. A comparison is made with results of the work of other investigators. (Author).
