Book excerpt: The Red Thread: The Integrated System and Variations of Pilates - The Mat gives to you over 35 years of experience in the Pilates Method Mat in one book. The book not only instructs how to execute the goal of each exercise, but how to build with variations and challenge each exercise, preparing the body for the next exercise to come. The book explains how and why to choose a variation to suit the needs of the student. It includes a comprehensive look at the connection between not only the Prior Exercise and the "Thread" that binds them, but the "Thread" that runs through the link between the Spinal Function of the exercise's predecessor. The book includes the purpose of each exercise, which enables you to "break it down" so the Purpose remains unchanged and the Method preserved. The Red Thread: The Integrated System and Variations of Pilates - The Mat offers Teachers tips on how to spot, what to look for, the Don't, Do's and Major Benefits of the exercise. The 1400 plus photos are taken both from the traditional vantage point and from the Teacher's view. The Pilates Method is also presented in easy to read Charts. These Charts breakdown, in simple form, what to "Add Next." This will enable you to create a perfect workout to strengthen what is weak and challenge what is strong. The Charts offer a multitude of vantage points to build the work from. These include Spinal Functions and cover a vast range of injuries. "My hope is that The Red Thread: The Integrated System and Variations of Pilates - The Mat will give both the Teacher and the Student insight into the Method we know as Pilates, the tools you need and elicit critical thinking. I hope it gives the insight needed to understand that the Pilates Method is NOT just a list of exercises and why, at each level of the work, one exercise follows another. The Red Thread: The Integrated System and Variations of Pilates - The Mat presents an understanding that this Method is NOT black and white, but a beautiful colorful canvas as unique as the body before you."

This book was released on 2018-03-24 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The High/Electric Chair is a crucial apparatus in the building of a strong Pilates Foundation. I didn't appreciate its versatility until my son came to me with a football player who had shattered his collarbone. This boy was a high school senior and the break had occurred a week prior to opening day. My sons' belief in the Method and his Mother was greater than mine, but he was right. There was a way for me to train this boy, who couldn't lie down and had never trained before. "A Chair is a Chair, what you do on one you can do on the other" was what I had been taught. My Teachers were right. Mat & Reformer were out (no lying down). He couldn't do Baby Chair for obvious reasons. We couldn't do the Wunda Chair...he would have killed himself! So off to the High Chair we went. On this amazing apparatus, where Stability is honed, I translated the entire Method and created a safe workout, while avoiding the injury. The young man was strong and fit when he returned to the field for his final three games, I stood yet again in wonderment of Joe Pilates genius and grateful for the tools he left us." Unique to the Red Thread (R) Book Series, you will not only learn the how of each exercise, but the why, when and what. This book contains photos and instructions that will guide you through each exercise with ease. There are never before seen variations Ms. Ross-Nash personally translated to the High Chair, through the application of her Red Thread (R), that will build stability, strength, Powerhouse, alignment and deepen your understanding of this brilliant method we call Pilates.

But it's SO big, it contains SO much detailed information, it can be hard to wrap your head around all of it. The Study Guide is full of tools I created for myself and my Facebook Study Group to help get the most out of "The Red Thread"(c). It's designed to help you do an organized, self-paced study of Kathi's book. You'll find charts and indexes not contained in "The Red Thread" to help you comprehend the different threads and Kathi's Add Next system. Then worksheets for each exercise, detailing all the variations and the Performance Order of the whole repertoire up to that point. Lastly, a Progression Checklist to help you keep track of which of the hundreds of variations you've explored. These tools helped me get the most out of my investment in "The Red Thread of Pilates - The Mat"(c). I hope it does the same for you.

Book Ehlers Danlos Syndrome A Multidisciplinary Approach

Download or read book Ehlers Danlos Syndrome A Multidisciplinary Approach written by J.W.G. Jacobs and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generalized hypermobility has been known since ancient times, and a clinical description of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is said to have first been recorded by Hippocrates in 400 BC. Hypermobility syndromes occur frequently, but the wide spectrum of possible symptoms, coupled with a relative lack of awareness and recognition, are the reason that they are frequently not recognized, or remain undiagnosed. This book is an international, multidisciplinary guide to hypermobility syndromes, and EDS in particular. It aims to create better awareness of hypermobility syndromes among health professionals, including medical specialists, and to be a guide to the management of such syndromes for patients and practitioners. It is intended for use in daily clinical practice rather than as a reference book for research or the latest developments, and has been written to be understandable for any healthcare worker or educated patient without compromise to the scientific content. The book is organized as follows: chapters on classifications and genetics are followed by chapters on individual types, organ (system) manifestations and complications, and finally ethics and therapeutic strategies, with an appendix on surgery and the precautions which should attend it. A special effort has been made to take account of the perspective of the patient; two of the editors have EDS. The book will be of interest to patients with hypermobility syndromes and their families, as well as to all those healthcare practitioners who may encounter such syndromes in the course of their work.

Book Let s Get Physical

Download or read book Let s Get Physical written by Danielle Friedman and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2023-01-03 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A captivating blend of reportage and personal narrative that explores the untold history of women’s exercise culture--from jogging and Jazzercise to Jane Fonda--and how women have parlayed physical strength into other forms of power. For much of the twentieth century, sweating was considered “unladylike” and girls grew up believing physical exertion would cause their uterus to “fall out.” It was only in the Sixties that, thanks to a few forward-thinking fitness pioneers, women began to move en masse. In Let's Get Physical, journalist Danielle Friedman reveals the fascinating untold history of contemporary fitness culture, chronicling in vivid, cinematic prose how exercise evolved from a beauty tool pitched almost exclusively as a way to “reduce” into one millions have harnessed as a path to mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Let’s Get Physical takes us into the workout studios and onto the mats to reclaim these forgotten origin stories—and shine a spotlight on the trailblazers who made it possible for women to move. Each chapter uncovers the birth of an fitness movement that laid the foundation for working out today: the invention of the barre method in the Swinging Sixties, jogging’s path to liberation in the Seventies, the explosion of aerobics and weight-training in the Eighties, the rise of yoga in the Nineties, and the ongoing push for a more socially inclusive fitness culture—one that celebrates every body. Ultimately, it tells the story of how women discovered the joy of physical competence and strength—and how, by moving together to transform fitness from a privilege into a right, we can create a more powerful sisterhood.

Book Fire in the Minds of Men

  • Author : James H. Billington
  • Publisher : Transaction Publishers
  • Release : 1999
  • ISBN : 0765804719
  • Pages : 694 pages

Download or read book Fire in the Minds of Men written by James H. Billington and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 1999 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book traces the origins of a faith--perhaps the faith of the century. Modern revolutionaries are believers, no less committed and intense than were Christians or Muslims of an earlier era. What is new is the belief that a perfect secular order will emerge from forcible overthrow of traditional authority. This inherently implausible idea energized Europe in the nineteenth century, and became the most pronounced ideological export of the West to the rest of the world in the twentieth century. Billington is interested in revolutionaries--the innovative creators of a new tradition. His historical frame extends from the waning of the French Revolution in the late eighteenth century to the beginnings of the Russian Revolution in the early twentieth century. The theater was Europe of the industrial era; the main stage was the journalistic offices within great cities such as Paris, Berlin, London, and St. Petersburg. Billington claims with considerable evidence that revolutionary ideologies were shaped as much by the occultism and proto-romanticism of Germany as the critical rationalism of the French Enlightenment. The conversion of social theory to political practice was essentially the work of three Russian revolutions: in 1905, March 1917, and November 1917. Events in the outer rim of the European world brought discussions about revolution out of the school rooms and press rooms of Paris and Berlin into the halls of power. Despite his hard realism about the adverse practical consequences of revolutionary dogma, Billington appreciates the identity of its best sponsors, people who preached social justice transcending traditional national, ethnic, and gender boundaries. When this book originally appeared The New Republic hailed it as "remarkable, learned and lively," while The New Yorker noted that Billington "pays great attention to the lives and emotions of individuals and this makes his book absorbing." It is an invaluable work of history and contribution to our understanding of political life.
