Download or read book The Rebel In Me written by Agrippah Mutambara and published by Helion and Company. This book was released on 2014-06-19 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the true story of a young guerrilla commander brought up in a Christian family in Rhodesia, a former colony of Britain. Exposed to the excesses of a colonial regime where race and racism determined oneÍs status in society, and influenced by the radical anti-racial views of his parents and later of fellow students and work mates, his character began to change. A chance encounter with a captured guerrilla fighter helped complete the metamorphic transformation of his rebel character, and was catalytic to his decision to cross into Mozambique to join the Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA), the military wing of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) led by Robert Mugabe, which was waging a protracted revolutionary armed struggle to liberate Zimbabwe. Known by his nom de guerre, Dragon Patiripakashata, he led several armed guerrilla incursions into Rhodesia, before being promoted to the General Staff and appointed an instructor. For the final eighteen months of the war, until 1980, he served as ZANUÍs Chief Representative to Socialist Ethiopia. Mutambara invites the reader to view the Rhodesian bush war through the eyes of a guerrilla commander, experience the trials and tribulations of a freedom fighter, the satisfaction of working among the masses, and the joyous celebration of achieving freedom and independence. He outlines the psyche of those who engage in revolutionary armed struggle and why, even when exposed to extreme hardship and continual assault by a superior military adversary, they remain committed to their cause. This book also takes a different view of Mugabe, reviled by most Western governments and yet who remains immensely popular among his people.

Download or read book A rebel in love written by Cristiano Parafioriti and published by Tektime. This book was released on 2021-09-01 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sicily 1860. A plebiscite declared the final annexation of the island to the newly born Kingdom of Italy. A few years later, in Galati di Tortorici (now Galati Mamertino), an unknown Poor Clare nun carefully hid inside an ecclesiastical book the much-wanted diary of a local bandit. Leader of an armed band, he had tenaciously fought the Savoy troops for more than three years. The rebels' defeat had not calmed the hunt for the handwritten book, which had reached unimaginable heinous heights. But what was so compromising about the diary to become so fiercely hunted? After the engaging short stories of Era il mio paese (2014) and Sicilitudine (2016), Cristiano Parafioriti concludes his Trilogy of Origins with this compelling historical novel. Punctuated by raging battles of arms and passion, red stories of blood and love intertwine, leading all the characters of those worn-out pages inevitably to an unavoidable and bloody final confrontation. Download or read book An Irish Rebel in New Spain written by Andrea Martínez Baracs and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2021-11-19 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Irish Rebel in New Spain recounts the story of the so-called Irish Zorro, who, in 1659, was burned at the stake for conspiring against the empire to make himself king of Mexico, restore the privileges of the Indigenous people, end the persecution of the Jews, and free the African slaves. William Lamport was an Irish rebel, a soldier, a poet, and a thinker. His Catholic family lost their land and their religious freedom after the English conquest of Ireland. In 1640, Lamport emigrated to New Spain, where he witnessed the abuses of the colonial system and later ran afoul of the Mexican Inquisition. Imprisoned in 1642, Lamport argued his own defense as well as that of the Jews who were in prison with him. Along with a concise biography, this volume provides an anthology of Lamport’s most representative writings: his detailed project for a Spanish-supported Irish insurrection; a manifesto and plan for a Mexican uprising against Spain; his self-defense, which he nailed to the doors of the cathedral when he managed to momentarily escape from prison; a selection of his poetry; and the court documents about the accusation that led him to the pyre. This concise, compelling, and original reflection on the systems of (in)justice in seventeenth-century Mexico is designed for classes on early modern Spain, colonial Latin America, and the Inquisition. Those with an affinity for Irish history will also enjoy learning about the colorful life of William Lamport.

Book excerpt: Dive into the pages of 'Echoes of Authenticity: Rediscovering Your True Self,' where I share a compelling narrative that transcends the boundaries of self-help literature. In this transformative journey, authenticity takes center stage as I navigate the complexities of life, inviting readers to embark on their own odyssey of self-discovery. The narrative unfolds with my restless echo, a universal sentiment many can relate to—a yearning for deeper meaning and connection. When I stumble upon a revolutionary approach to life, skepticism and curiosity intertwine, laying the foundation for a journey that transcends conventional self-help paradigms. As the story progresses, readers are invited into a Whispers Workshop, an immersive experience designed to help participants connect with their inner voices. Key concepts come to life, providing practical insights for articulating suppressed desires and embracing vulnerability as a gateway to authenticity. Reflecting on pivotal moments at the crossroads of my life, I unveil the stories of a reclusive artist and a corporate rebel, each offering profound lessons on embracing authenticity. The narrative beautifully weaves together these diverse perspectives, creating a rich tapestry of human experiences. Chapter by chapter, I confront and articulate suppressed desires without apologies, unraveling the liberating power of self-acceptance. The exploration of vulnerability emerges as a central theme, inviting readers to embrace the dance between courage and fear, unlocking the transformative potential inherent in moments of raw honesty. The book introduces a cast of characters who, inspired by my journey, embark on their own quests for authenticity. From an unapologetic pursuit of aspirations to the nurturing of authentic connections, each chapter serves as a guide for those seeking to break free from societal expectations and listen to the whispers of their authentic selves. In the closing chapters, I reflect on the enduring impact of authenticity, encouraging readers to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery. Download or read book Most Likely to Succeed at Work written by Wilma Davidson and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2004-10-14 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Kurt Vonnegut once said, "True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country." When it comes down to it, work--with its know-it-alls, gossips, and brown-noser--is a lot like high school. This clever and useful book helps readers identify and better communicate with these and other common types we all remember from the days when report cards, not business reports, were our concern, and when the big social event was the prom, not the company picnic. You don't need to dig out your yearbook to get a glimpse of these types--just take a look around your office: the Teacher's Pet, the Player, the Cheerleader, the Go-Getter, the Underachiever, the Class Clown, and many more. With wit and uncanny accuracy, corporate coaches Wilma Davidson and Jack Dougherty outline all the members of the "class," offering tips on working efficiently with each type, whether they're your boss, your client, or a colleague. The book also delivers advice on handling authority, conformity, looks, popularity, "sex education," and other indignities from high school that live on in the workplace. Whether you're still the same as you were in high school, a combination of types, or a reformed Rebel turned Class President, you will delight in and learn from this unique guide.
