Book The Quad 1903 Vol 9 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Quad 1903 Vol 9 Classic Reprint written by Leland Stanford Junior University and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-27 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Quad, 1903, Vol. 9 Moreover, as this year is the tenth anniversary of the Opening of Stanford, some attempt has been made to make this an anniversary book. Two articles, by Dr. Jordan and Dr. Elliott, embody - the one the ideals and intentions of those who direct the University, the other the traditions which have become interwoven with our short history. A poem on the chapel by Professor Newcomer is most noteworthy in its echo of other days. The editors have used every effort to secure the work of those Of our former Stanford men, either among the immortals or rapidly approaching that height, who have in time past made Stanford history in its publies tions, both in a literary and an artistic way. In a majority of cases they have been successful, and can refer with pride to such names as Carolus Ager, Bill Irwin, Wallace Irwin, Bristow Adams, Larry Bowman, Merle Johnson, Dick Culver, Randel Borough and Will Francis. As for the rest, the editors have tried to give the college a tasteful and representative quad. If they have succeeded, the credit belongs to the Junior Class; if they have failed, theirs is the blame. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Triangle, Vol. 10: October 13, 1903 With the loss of some of her veteran linesmen, New York went against Trinity on Ohio Field Saturday afternoon, considerably in doubt as to the result, and her most loyal supporters, the student body, who stood on the bleachers ready to sing and cheer themselves hoarse, by no means confident of victory. But doubts were soon removed, for the New Englanders proved no match for the home eleven in any particular of the game. Trinity was clearly outclassed from start to finish, the final score being 35 to 5. And with this victory, in the opening game, comes increased confidence and enthusiasm, which, with the hard practices Of the coming week, and the probabilities of the return of Coe and Reilly into the game, ought to make the present football season the most successful in the history of the college. New York's exhibition of football surprised everybody. Her back field was exceptionally strong in offensive and defensive play, and the line easily resisted the hard attacks of the Trinity backs. New York's touchdowns were the result of Splendid team work, and were all well earned, while Trinity scored her only touchdown on what appeared to many to be a fake, for it is claimed that five men were back of the line, outside the as-yard line limits, when the end run was made which resulted in her Only score. Besides, she was weak in punting, and lacked team work. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Hoosiers and the American Story written by Madison, James H. and published by Indiana Historical Society. This book was released on 2014-10 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A supplemental textbook for middle and high school students, Hoosiers and the American Story provides intimate views of individuals and places in Indiana set within themes from American history. During the frontier days when Americans battled with and exiled native peoples from the East, Indiana was on the leading edge of America’s westward expansion. As waves of immigrants swept across the Appalachians and eastern waterways, Indiana became established as both a crossroads and as a vital part of Middle America. Indiana’s stories illuminate the history of American agriculture, wars, industrialization, ethnic conflicts, technological improvements, political battles, transportation networks, economic shifts, social welfare initiatives, and more. In so doing, they elucidate large national issues so that students can relate personally to the ideas and events that comprise American history. At the same time, the stories shed light on what it means to be a Hoosier, today and in the past.
