Book A History of the Providence River With the Moshassuck Woonasquatucket Seekonk Tributaries

Download or read book A History of the Providence River With the Moshassuck Woonasquatucket Seekonk Tributaries written by Robert A. Geake and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2013-02-19 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Providence River begins its journey from the confluence of the Moshassuck and Woonasquatucket Rivers, in the capital city from which the river takes its name. A short distance downstream, the Seekonk River joins with the Providence as they flow on toward the mouth of Narragansett Bay. The history of the Ocean State was made on the banks of this historic river. It was here that Roger Williams established the first settlement dedicated to religious liberty, Rochambeau's army made its first encampment on the road to Yorktown and the Walsh-Kaiser Shipyard built World War II vessels for the Allied maritime effort. Along its waters glided boats and ships engaged in the slave trade, the raid on the "Gaspee" and all manner of coastal commerce. Historian Robert A. Geake has paddled the river's length to uncover the mysteries coursing within.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A biography examining the life of the fortieth president of the United States and the impact of his faith. Ronald Reagan is one of the most popular and beloved of modern presidents, and one of the greatest presidents in America’s history. But to most scholars, biographers, and critics, the man is still an enigma. What has made him so admired and so successful in all walks of life? The answer is simple. Even when he was the most powerful man in the world, Reagan put his faith and hope in a higher power. An uplifting biography of America’s fortieth president, Hand of Providence takes a decisive look at the powerful impact Reagan’s faith had on his ideas, motives, and actions. With warmth and insight, Mary Beth Brown delves into Reagan’s spiritual journey—through all of his doubts and despair and ultimate conviction. Brown offers profound stories of God’s provision in Reagan’s life—from first making it as an actor to winning the presidency, from surviving an assassination attempt to eventually changing the face of politics and the world.

Book America s Providential History

Download or read book America s Providential History written by Mark A. Beliles and published by . This book was released on 1989-12-01 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In America's Providential History we examine the history of America from a Christian perspective. Since God is the author of history and he is carrying out his plan in the earth through history, any view of the history of America, or any country, that ignores God is not true history. This is a providential view of history and was held by the vast majority of those people who founded this nation. While we do not look at all the events in America's birth and growth, we do highlight the providence and purposes of God, and the faith of our founders. Understanding this will provide a proper framework in which other historical information can be properly placed. - Introduction.

This book was released on 2004 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Italian Americans made a significant contribution to Franklin D. Roosevelt's election to the White House in 1932 and to the victory of the Democratic Party in the four subsequent presidential contests. This volume offers a case study of their electoral behavior. Through a quantitative analysis of the Italian-American vote between 1916 and 1948, this study demonstrates that, contrary to conventional wisdom, the creation of a Democratic majority in the Little Italy of Providence foreran both Alfred Smith's 1928 candidacy for the presidency and the Depression of the 1930s. War II and underwent a revitalization in the postwar years. Political recognition and patronage were so central to Italian Americans' party choice that their support for the Democratic Party reached a climax when a member of the community, John Pastore, ran for governor on the Democratic ticket in the mid 1940s. • Pages : 529 pages

Download or read book Providence written by John Piper and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2021-02-09 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New from Best-Selling Author John Piper From Genesis to Revelation, the providence of God directs the entire course of redemptive history. Providence is "God's purposeful sovereignty." Its extent reaches down to the flight of electrons, up to the movements of galaxies, and into the heart of man. Its nature is wise and just and good. And its goal is the Christ-exalting glorification of God through the gladness of a redeemed people in a new world. Drawing on a lifetime of theological reflection, biblical study, and practical ministry, pastor and author John Piper leads us on a stunning tour of the sightings of God's providence—from Genesis to Revelation—to discover the allencompassing reality of God's purposeful sovereignty over all of creation and all of history. Piper invites us to experience the profound effects of knowing the God of all-pervasive providence: the intensifying of true worship, the solidifying of wavering conviction, the strengthening of embattled faith, the toughening of joyful courage, and the advance of God's mission in this world.
